Gotcha, Dan.  FWIW - those first two programs are in custom slots - they are completely modifiable and can even be deleted or replaced by the user unlike the stock programs. They are simply variants of their parent stock programs.  I believe they were created during the field test phase and it is unclear whether they will survive beyond the "Beta" update phase (firmware versions prior to ver 1.0; e.g., 0.6, 0.7 etc.).

Beach P is a customized version of Beach (Program 12) but with Pitch tones (vice 3 Tones), Silencer at 2 (vice 0), Salt Sens at 7 (vice 9), and Reactivity at 1.5 (vice 0).

Fast 40 is a customized version of Mono (Program 7) with Disc at 6.6 (vice 6.1), 2 Tones (vice 3), Frequency at 40.4 khz (vice 16.5 khz), and Reactivity at 3 (vice 2).

I deleted those 2 custom programs from the get go as suggested by others early on.  👍

I tried as the instructions said----when turning on, hold the on button for eight seconds( I think I did as instructed) but it wouldnt pair. Do you think that the battery may have been low? It has been charging for a long time now.

Possibly. It took me a couple attempts to pair my headphones holding the button for 8 sec. After my last attempt, I did the 8 sec thing then turned every thing off, turned the remote back on and it started working.

I re-did the download and got the big numbers but lost my pinpointer. I just notice this today when out looking that my pinpointer was not working. Tried to reinstall while I was out looking but could not. I uninstalled when I received after finally receiving the uninstall screen, but unable to re-install. The uninstall screen does not always appear. I am recharging. Maybe this will help. Has anyone else experienced this????Thanks.....

Just follow the pairing in the manual. Some of us lost the pairing of the WS6 headphones by not turning them off while updating.

Just turn OFF the WS6 module before you do the update. Power off RC when update is Successful and power back on. Your module will be fine.

I forgot to turn the module off and lost it. DUH!!! Re paired it and I'm fine now.

Before the rain hit yesterday (snowing this morning) I took the Deus 2 out to the Great Salt Lake here in Utah. Now for those of you in Utah, I was hunting on area that you can use metal detectors legally. The GSL is 8 to 10 times saltier than the ocean, depending on where you are in the lake. Most metal detectors struggle in this very salty environment, I usually use my GXP there anymore. Some parts of the lake also have high mineralization where the river inlets are. So there are multiple challenges that are present. Most SMF machines with a standard 11" coil will get somewhere between 9 and 10 inches deep on a nickel sized target. The Minelab CTX with the 17" coil is an exception. I tested the Deus 2 both in and out of the water and I will have to say I'm pretty impressed with it's performance. Didn't find any gold this time but did find a handful of old coins.

    Nice post Sir!!

Finally had a day where the ground wasn’t frozen so I went to a creekside  homesite I’ve hit so hard I have rarely of late  found anything of interest but in past years found numerous large cents and relics. I have the 11” coil. I started in general program but switched to sensitive, not altering any settings. I am highly impressed with the speed and sensitivity of this program. I think I will use one familiar program and one new to me one each time out as I get used to the Deus II. I was impressed by when I had a decent signal, it was usually a decent find, not junk. I dug numerous lead shot beads. I dug some iron signals in order to try to differentiate between small and large because I really appreciate iron relics. Today I found several including the iron horse and the ankh. ( by the way does anybody know what purpose these served? I’ve found several over the years but this one is the nicest example I’ve ever seen. My best find by far was the 1853 holed trime which was found at a depth of 6” in a very polluted area. Very impressive with an 11” coil. It was a strong 79 signal. This is my first trime. Or I found a trime for the first time, lol.
I left more than impressed with the Deus II’s ability to bring life back to old cherished sites and am very optimistic for this detecting season. I also left less upset by the lack of 9” coil. The irons were photographed after wire brush and coating with modge podge.

One thing to keep in mind, yes Jeremy does some entertaining detecting videos, and he's certainly unfiltered, but folks need to keep in mind that he has pretty unique soil.  He's excited if he can hit a 5" deep dime in his soil, he seems to have Culpeper Virginia like soil to deal with.   If it does well in his dirt, it should perform well in complex soil conditions.

If you think his soil is unique, come to CT. I have spots where the GB value is 92-97. CT runs from 64-97 in different spots.

I'm sure other folks here can give a more detailed and more accurate explanation, but the effect is caused by the roll of quarters being laid on its side. You are essentially creating coins on edge orientation, and while you'd think 40 coins contacting each other on edge would give a big signal, that's not the case. Each coin creates its own eddy current from being energized by the coil (in the same way links in a chain do) and  the detector is basically reading the one or two edge oriented coins at a time per swing even though they are touching. So the entire roll of coins doesn't create one big eddy current, just 40 tiny ones, and most of them are missed in the sweep. Sweeping length of the roll, you are sweeping across the thinnest part of the coin so the response is small to missed. When you changed your swing 90 degrees, you swept across the length of the coin in the roll and it gave a larger response in some programs. If you had stood the roll on end, it would have read similar to one flat oriented quarter for the same reason, because the detector is reading only one or two coins at a time. I hope that makes some sense.

A roll of coins will come up as a bar of metal and NOT a coin. Here in the USA, a clad coin is a mish-mosh of copper and Nickel. Coins stacked in a roll would look like a bar of stainless steel or something else but never a coin.

That was the intent of my question. I'd say it's taken me probably 2 years to get completely comfortable with the Equinox. Of course you never stop learning, and I got into that detector after not having detected since I was a kid (I'm retired now, sort of). At first glance, the D2 looks like an even steeper learning curve for someone like me who has never used an XP and have no ideas what many of the settings even mean. The Deus 2 is literally like learning a new language for me and I can only assume it would take at least a few years to get comfortable with it too. Although many have said the stock programs are useable to get going so that's encouraging, and I really don't mind learning a new language, I just hope I can pick it up a little more quickly. 😉

Don't sell yourself short! Many of the settings on the Deus II are similar to your nox but named different. What the Deus has is unbelievable audio settings you can adjust to your liking. I estimate you mastering the menu and settings in a couple days. It took me a day to master the menu.

  10. I found the Deus I to have a VERY compressed VDI. Very confusing in iron infested colonial sites here in CT. My Deus II is now my GoTo. The D2 has a very broad and familiar VDI and this helps IDing targets. It also helps with the very Nuanced audio that the Deus II produces. This shortens the Deus learning curve to about a half hour for me!!! I have now after 3 weeks mastered the tweaking I will need to do for colonial sites. Once you know how the settings affect the machine in any program you will master it in short time.

I was kidding around.  Early in the video, hunting with the Deus 2, he gets a strong and consistent 46 but having forgotten to put a battery in his pinpointer he has to find the target the hard way and loses track of it.

What we have here in CT is a LOT of signals that give a good VDI but when you disturb the ground they disappear. My hunting buddy and I know which VDI signals will go POOF and vanish on our other machines. Usually a 58-62 on the ATMAX and a 34-37 on the Impact. Ct has some really bizarre mineralization and according to a Geologist friend who is a professor at UCONN here, "The iron content in the soil in CT is very high in certain areas particularly in the North West part of the state. This iron can come into contact with other decaying metals or minerals through electrolysis and mimic other metals with a metal detector. ".

  12. Ok, This video is NOT about the EMI videos I promised you gents but it's a video of a short hunt on one of the most pounded colonial sites here in CT. I just went for fun to shoot a video for my new YouTube channel as a test. The EMI videos will come when the ground thaws here. At the bottom right click the gear icon, select quality then 1080P. Some how YouTube defaults new videos to the lowest quality 360P.

Hi Everyone. I posted the following video on a response to a different post, but I thought I would post it here for you incase you aren't reading that thread.

This is a video explaining how to go the deepest depth possible with the Deus 2 and also how to increase the Deus 2's ability to process complex signals such as coins on edge.

    Happy swinging!

Some of what you stated in your is valid but a lot is not regarding the processor usage time. As an engineer, the "Processor" does not have the ability to make decisions.  There is virtually zero wait time, IE., Ticks going on as you described. The real Meat and Potato's is the "Program". When the detector sees something with the program running it goes with the setting checklist first. Regardless of what you set as "Zero" it checks and sets that setting to zero. If you set that setting to two it sets that setting to two. There is zero time differential in setting these options. All of the settings are processed this way one by one no matter what number is there in the setting before information is given to you. The programs in these machines are a version of "Relay Ladder Logic" similar to a PLC. There's a lot of Boolean in these programs, "If This, Then That" logic. Anytime something triggers the machine to start making decisions, it starts the process from the top all over again. According to XP most of the settings affect Audio only, not the performance of the machine itself unlike other detectors. The reactivity settings are the most sensitive settings affecting depth. When the reactivity is low, the coil stays on longer after seeing the first sign of a target, maybe missing a close target next to it but, staying on longer is deeper. If the reactivity is set high, the coil turns on and off quickly to separate targets. High reactivity reduces the time the coil is on between targets and reduces depth.  This is what is a depth killer/helper and a program hog on the Deus II depending on this setting. There is a LOT going on in this setting!

OK, I am getting little hints that the Deus 2 may be more sensitive/affected by EMI?  So the question is:  Which machine can run hotter in EMI? Please no speculation. Only users that have tested both machines in a known EMI spot. Especially beach modes.

I am not talking about how the Equinox and Deus2 react with each other. I am asking about EMI from power sources and telecommunication equipment.

    Thanks

I can't wait for that test. Those trains are killers to depth. I spent all day today  hunting at a beach where the train is within 30 feet. If you get a chance to bury something while the tracks are not as active, and then as they are active, it would be interesting to see how much loss there is. If you are testing the same rail as I hunt, I'll be shocked if you can get that machine silent.

I have my YouTube channel set up and will make some videos when the weather gets a little better here in CT.
