Found this copper culture point some years back. Estimated to be around 4,000 to 6,000 years old. Not native to Massachusetts. Likely traded in from Great Lakes. I remember pulling it out of the hole along with a handful of dirt and thinking it was just a stone point, I set it aside. I kept rescanning the hole looking for that screamer of a signal that had mysteriously disappeared. 😁

You guys are killing me with these early metallic points! That one goes beyond words that are allowed for description on this site. Finding a copper culture point has been a pipe dream of mine since I was a teenager and thanks for posting it.

In the US, you can only go back so far, but sometimes you can get lucky. I'm going to only post the things that were lost here close to their time period. I'm not counting what I think is a small roman coin I found that was probably brought back here by a soldier and lost in the late 1940's or so. So here is the oldest period coin I found. It has a date range from 1516-1520 and was probably lost around the mid to late 1600's.

The Native American conical Kettle point was most likely lost on May 26th, 1637 during a one day battle. It is from a tribe that was not living in the area that it was found in, but was fighting there that day. We even estimated the time lost to be around noon time, given the descriptions that were written about the battle and their movements.

    That point is amazing!

  3. I will never forget that day I was twelve and was at my Grandparrents home with my family. We were all watching the Ed Sullivan show when the phone rang.Turns out that it was my older brother calling from Crescent City California. He was a patrolman for the local police department and called to let us know about the imminent tidal wave. The following weekend we all drove up there from Ukiah to see the massive destruction first hand.

Yeah I just got the 10x5. I usually keep the 11 on because sometimes I like to move out of the iron and hunt the outskirts of the house sites where civil war camps often were. The 10x5 might be a good compromise between separation and depth. I know the stock 11 punches down deep on bullets and buttons. When I hit and iron patch I’ll turn back the sensitivity a bit and run the swing speed higher.

    That's absolutely correct.

  5. In my experience the stock 11 coil is really tough to use in heavy trash and especially heavy iron and nail infested sites. It reminds me a lot of my ex Itallian girlfriend after three bottles of vino very irritable and never shuts up.The 6"round works very well with far less falsing and superior separation.I also feel that the Coiltek 10x5 is a very good option in the so called machine gun iron with a little more depth than the 6" round and better coverage.personally I recomend having both.

    Yeah, little specimen piece.

My son is 28, he actually knows more on local gold rush history than me. We used to detect together all the time, but he lives 50 miles away , and is hooked on steelhead fishin too, so its not very often now.

Fantastic relics and artifacts! I laughed out loud when you mentioned that your son was hooked on the steelfish. I resemble that remark and spent twenty plus years as a professional steelhead bum.i was able to fish all over Northern California and Oregon and Vancouver Island. Even though that pretty much put my detecting on the back burner I took advantage and located numerous Native American Artifacts and sites, antique bottles, and detecting sites.Again excellent finds and thanks for sharing.
