So I'm out at my claims this weekend and see fresh side by side tracks going up the wash. Completely off road, crushing bushes and cactus. I find several dig holes that were not filled in. Then I see them. Parked right smack dab on my corner marker and my location marker. When confronted I get the usual bullshit. I didn't know it was a claim. I said that is my location notice right there. The response is I thought the claim went east. Well there are claims owned by a local club that way. No remorse, no apology and had the stupidity to say that I was an asshole. This turd is from Idaho and says he is a prospector. My ass this dude is a claim jumper and doesn't give a shit about where he hunts. Doesn't care about the land and can give a shit about your mineral rights. Shit bags like this guy really ruin the hobby. I told him it is his responsibility to know the land status before he goes. He says there are so many paper hanger claims. There was just no reasoning with this turd. If you aren't going to respect Arizona land and claims stay the hell out of this state.

Sorry to hear about this. It happens all the time and will continue. Life is too short to let it shorten your life. Good luck out there and hope you have good fortune. Karma. You win, they lose.

  2. It's been for sale since about 2007 or thereabouts, probably longer. I don't think it's been worked in many, many years. Getting the permits to work it again...well it's California. Look at the pictures of the big nuggets. That's probably from the 1970's. As nice is it is to dream about, in this day and age in California it's only a dream.

  3. I just checked in for a flight I have tomorrow and it stated no lithium ion batteries allowed in checked baggage period. They are only allowed in carry on luggage and battery terminals must be covered/protected. It also stated it was at their discretion as to whether or not certain lithium batteries would be allowed on carry on luggage. I traveled on the same airline at Thanksgiving with 2 equinox detectors in my checked luggage. I think those are Lithium batteries? My wife checked us into that flight.

  4. I have never seen it because I didn't know about it until now. Thanks it gives me a reason to go to Yosemite.

Google "firefalls" in Yosemite. The oldtimers used to light a big fire on the top of a mountain and push it over the edge. It sure would have been a site to see. These days you can't even hardly have a bonfire due to the extreme fire hazards. Mostly due to poor forest management policies in California.

  5. Hey guys,

I have never beach hunted or hunted for coins/relics/jewelry. I have only hunted for gold nuggets.

We are heading to Maui and my son wants to metal detect the beach where we are staying. I have a new in the box Equinox 800. I don't have anything other than my nugget hunting gear. It looks like I should pick up one of those beach scoop things with a long handle. Is there anything else I should get? Any tips on beach hunting? Thanks for any advise and yes I will start searching the forum and youtube for other threads on beach hunting basics. Can't remember if the Nox is waterproof?

Couple years back, a buddy of mine who lives in the desert had his shed broken into and a lot of expensive stuff sacked. Recently  he bought a 40'  steel shipping container for outside storage. Being a engineer and fabricator,  he made a number of "custom  & unique" modifications to it in addition to windows a door, etc. One particular window was somewhat larger and you might say could be  "enticing"  to the wrong kind of sort.

One night he and his wife were awakened to this terrible screaming and banging coming from outside their home. Glock in hand, he walked out to find the noise coming from inside the shipping container. You see this one custom window was built so that once someone broke in, a trip mechanism engaged a heavy tension spring slamming down a steel cover over the window trapping the crook  inside........just like a rat.

Tom never gave the dirt bag any indication what was going on and after calling the sheriff, would occasionally strike the steel siding with a hammer. This loud echoing "BANG" coupled with the pitch blackness  and uncertainty of his fate would cause the crook to wail in fear. Well eventually the deputies arrived and took the guy into custody.  Coming out of the container hand cuffed; he was sweating profusely, crying , shaking and had blood running down his face. Oh, and it was obvious he'd shit his pants.

With the above post in mind, does anybody have any really good ideas on how to best lock/secure conex containers? I know a lot of people use them to store things. Most of the newer units come with the welded-on steel padlock covers. It would be nice to hear how others are locking them in addition to the padlock. I have seen crossbar locks that connects to the vertical locking bars like the link I have attached. Obviously if somebody wants to break in, they will regardless of how you secure the doors. Maybe a new thread on this subject?
