  1. Do you have any idea what this item in your trash pile is? I’ve been digging these on an old place and noticed that you had one in your trash. Thanks
  2. I mostly use the manticore in or around iron with the M8. I’ve really enjoyed using this detector. Every single time I’ve doubted its ability to pull keepers out of a really challenging situation it comes through. What is really weird about the manticore it might hit clean on some targets severely masked in nails then hit another target with an iffy audio that doesn’t seem to have anything around it. Just yesterday afternoon I was getting a weird hit that was all over the place it was smeared from iron to lower 90s, very strange smeared signal that would not lock no matter what I did. This site is literally a constant iron buzz with modern trash everywhere. It was as 1842 half dime I thought for sure I was digging some type of iron mixed with some sort of non ferrous trash. Sensitivity was at 19 which I call a little more than normal. Overdrive for me and my type of sites would have sensitivity at 21. Any more than that the targets are smeared or not detected correctly for my hearing.
  3. Exactly what I’m thinking, or a simple 5” round. The 6” is too big, too close to the M8 for size. Most good machines if someone has put in the time and effort has a coil combo that pulls them the goods. It could be small, medium, or large in size, but it pulls them the best finds. Sometimes a coil works on one machine but on another it’s just average or even does not work well at all. The manticore so far has filled all of my expectations with the exception of a smaller coil. Hopefully we will get it.
  4. The 6” coil on CTX was a great combo for me. Made some really good finds in iron. It was deep and ID was great to depth. The Coiltek 5x10 did not run well on my CTX, very bad for me. A friend of mine had the same problem with the Coiltek 5x10. Maybe we got bad ones, not sure. The stock 11” and 17” coils ran great on the CTX. The manticore with M8 or M11 is a great detector, but in my sites a smaller coil that works correctly would eliminate a couple of extra units that I have to use in the thickest of iron and trash. Im just trying to get it out there that minelab needs a smaller coil for the manticore.
  5. The manticore needs a smaller coil because it’s leaving targets. The M8 is a good coil on manticore. I have used it almost exclusively since getting it in early November. The manticore is probably the best machine for iron work that Minelab has ever made. I use a lot of different detectors to work in the thickest trash, nails and big iron infested sites. A 5”-6” small round coil or a smaller 3.5”x6”-4.5”x7” on most any machine of any brand will pull targets out of trash and iron that the M8 dose not lock on to. I’m making this post because I’m really hoping that minelab will give us a smaller coil. What could the CTX have been with a coil like the M8 or the Nel snake or an iron volume control ? Hoping that minelab will give us a better coil selection, that’s what makes a difference in most detectors is the coil selections. Fingers crossed
  6. DIG5050, not sure about availability on coils but I’m thinking that they made a 3.75” , 5” , 5”x10”, 8” , 10.5” by fisher all concentric. Also made a couple aftermarket coils too , not sure who made those. What I do know for certain is that in the iron run silencer off sensitivity maxed out and disc clicked in to auto. It will be a little noisy, but I’m used to listening to a lot more noise than the 1236x2 can give. Ignore pops and clicks, just dig clean hits. It works I promise. Good luck.
  7. I totally agree 100 percent, I even go as far to say settings can be different from one side of a site to another. Manticore is a very adjustable and powerful detector. I’ve almost gave up on it and quickly learned that I was overdriving it. Lower the sensitivity to 17-20 and reactivity 5-7 depth/separation is very good. I’ve been able to make some great finds in some beat up sites that weren’t producing anymore. If it gets over something good it will usually be a clean hit, but it will pull masked and challenged targets out iron and nasty modern trash. Audio is telling and ID has a better lock in iron than anything I’ve ever seen.
  8. Thanks guys. I’m running the 8”. But wanting to buy a 5” too.
  9. I recently got this 1236x2 because Keith Southern said it would pull silver out of nail beds and beat sites. How correct he was. I’ve been all over this coin with a few other machines. The 1236x2 got it with a clean hit. Thanks for looking. Todd Fayard
  10. My buddy dug his first silver today with his Xterra pro and my V8X coil. I told him that I would trade him the half dime for coil and he said that he would rather not make that trade. Well I tried. He went ahead and bought the coil from me. He dug that half dime right out of the nails.
  11. Was running m8 in a nail infested area today. Thanks for looking.
  12. I can get the weight off,I promise. I’ve got several machines down pretty low . Check out my light weight sovereign it’s a real low 3lbs with a meter and can remove a little more I’m sure I can get it to a high 2lbs. I shave and cut off anything that is not needed . Turn knobs down on lathe use aircraft titanium/aluminum fasteners . A gram here gram there adds up really quick. My sovereign swings better than my manticore with any size coil on it. I race wing sprint cars and removing weight comes natural. Can you get me the contact information the inline chip deal is what I’m interested in. Removing weight is easy. Thanks
  13. I’m looking for the link, video, or any other information about the guy that was talking the chip out of CTX coils and making an in line chip so you can use different coils on CTX. I ran the CTX for over 3 years and killed it. I sold my CTX because it also killed my right hip. Total hip replacement at 49 years old. I’m thinking about getting another CTX and modifying it to ultralight weight. Another thing that would make sense is use of aftermarket FBS coils on CTX. Thanks for your help.
