I did this test on the picture - the ring is under the nails.

Teknetics G2- 3.5x6.5" -nel snake coil: sens 70-100,disk 31-33, Yes 4way-100%passed, Disk on 33-slightly faster sweep coil...,, Disk on31 normal ,and slightly faster sweep...

Garret Ace400i  -4.5"sniper coil- allmetal,sens 1-8, -4way -No passed..., from 1-2 sweep directions -in  Sens 5 bar,,a timely signal at the edge of the coil..

Tesoro Mojave-7"-precision coil, Disk in 1/2 foil- on the letter " I "-on Iron, sens 2-5, .. Yes 4way -100% passed ...-slightly slow sweeping the coil...

Golden Mask Coin-killer 15khz -5" spider coil :disk on1.5. sens 1-8..1-2tone,   Yes..4-way 100% passed.. -Way n.3 slightly slow sweeping the coil..

Whites Spectra -6x4" shooter coil : 1.F-22.5khz, program Hi-pro ,12.5hz-high ground filter, recovery delay 25-30 ,RxGain-5, DS-92 ,bottle cap Off.,- ..Yes 4-Way100% passed.. -slightly slow, sweeping the coil..... At 3F multifrequency-2 way occasional signal, at 1F 7.5khz-no signal...

The tests will continue-try using 6X10 ", standard, or 13" coil,...

Later I try to place the gold ring under the nail in this test...

I think it's a good 2D and 3D test ...Test 1:.. The 3gram gold ring   on the top between the nails is not a problem for a lot of detectors - sweeping, from 4 directions. Test2:  3gram gold ring under the nails-well preverts the ability of the detectors ....

Amergin.... I have devoted some time to this problem to test : On Park1, Park2, and Beach2: I have set the usable setting: 

On  coarse iron  ... you have to set the Iron Bias to a minimum of 7-8 to remove phantom tones .. and from the high recovery rate 6-7,8 settings, keep the separation acceptable to a small 6 "coil.

option1. Program Park1, sense 15_20, iron bias 7, recovery speed 6-7, discrimination accept -3do40,

option2.Program Park2, sens15-20, iron bias 7-8 .., recovery speed 6-7, discrimination accept -3do40 ..,

option3.program Beach2: sens 20-23, iron bias 7, recovery speed 6-7, discrimination accept -3 to 40 ...

 Upgrade what the Whites its well ,:
1.3F Multi-Frequency - 7-10 Frequency-Weighted Programs -by Type of Search...

"Lunch free"- in detection technology does not exist....the, high frequency,...high gain, and sensitive detectors will still be very sensitive to corroded iron, and the small coils has increased these properties ..you still can slightly reduce the sensitivity and the results will be good...I use to control the small 6 "coils of some suspicious signals User program low frequency program Beach 2, and there already these signals into pure iron.ID....-2, -6..remember the 6 "coil is also in Beach 2 - a sufficiently sensitive and deep coil....using sensitivity 20-24..

Try to compare these 2 programs -on a small 6 "coil ,,it will be like Day and Night

1: The Beach 2 program uses the lowest frequencies and has the lowest performance of the least fake signals on the corroded iron, - also the best depth modulation ..- plus the overload feature on large object-optics. 2.-Iron Bias set to Max-9-the most suppressed-silenced signals of "color signals" on corroded iron, and thin colored coatings on cans ,. 3. High Recovery Speed 7.8 - is the least sensitive and less sensible about very tiny, thin stuff, and also on the thin coats of colored metal on the iron, the smaller the range - better sound depth modulation. All Multi Equinox programs give you ID IDs for non-ferrous things, for iron they have different IDs ... instead of beach2, you can try ini program Beach1, at zero GB.. .,,,  5. Discrimination -If you set the setting, set it from -3 to +39.40 and you will not feel the iron  in good signals.

...one of the most common damage to the coils is a cable or connector ... as is the case with audio earphones. The only downside with cordless coils ... is the price and .. less battery capacity ..- fewer possibilities than the detector performance...

Amergin,.. ..when using a 6 "coil, edit the Field2 program: Discrimination acceptance from -3 to + 40, Iron bias0-1, tone break 0, ... 2 or -5 ton .. Sensitivity from 17-23,24 .. recovery speed from 3-4 to 6-7-8 ... To control the false signals from the iron with ID 14- and ID17,18,20, edit User program: Beach2: Iron bias 9, recovery speed 8, tone break 0-2, discrimination accept from 0-2 to + 40 ... sensitivity 17-23,24 ..- This user program has detected phonosy signals from the iron, you get a nice deep signal modulation, and on a small 6 "coil they are still quite sensitive even on small things .. Rightly "nonferrous" signaly I will mat equals ID in the main- and user program..signals from the iron I will point to the minus ID .....

That is a nice-looking shaft setup!  Looks like you went with a one-piece carbon-fiber LOWER rod, that telescopes up inside the Minelab upper rod, totally eliminating the middle shaft section.  I'm still not following, though, what you did to eliminate the problem of that "nipple" on the bottom of the handle, such that your lower rod will slide into the upper.  Are you saying that you trimmed/cut that nipple down to where the nipple is only about 1.5mm long?  That way, it still fits into the HOLE in the upper shaft, but is now too short to protrude down THROUGH the hole and INTO the upper shaft -- thus allowing the lower rod to freely slide into the upper?  

That is a very interesting approach, and intriguing idea.  The only issue for me to offer such a solution/product (i.e. an extra-long lower rod, that telescopes into the upper) would be that I am not sure how many folks would be willing to permanently "alter" their control box handle by trimming down that "nipple" to 1.5mm in length, or whatever.  For anyone who WOULD be willing to do that, I'd be willing to build them an extra-long one-piece LOWER rod, that would telescope into the upper.  The only other issue would be that if using the Minelab upper section in such a setup, where an extra-long, one piece lower shaft is used, is that there would need to be some spring-button holes drilled into the upper shaft section, to allow the extension length of the lower rod to be adjusted per user preference?

 Steve....I would do this as follows: If you do not want to wear an excerpt on the bottom of the Equinox handle, you can make your own  bottom handle part..- of 1.5mm -2mm less lowered protrusion.

In my equinox project, I took this excerpt on the equinox handle by about 1.5mm, so it does not bother moving the inner shaft ... but for a better fitting handle it is suitably used to suitably use something like a stainless steel bent under the screw. on the top of the shaft at the corner of the handle .. Thinking the lower shaft-17.75 mm is still sufficiently strong...

Steveg.....a  3-three-piece telescopic shaft, would be optimal, and on a 4-piece golden mask I pull out the third part only 5-15 cm. What about the fixing collar on the Equinox handles - I would stick on the top shafts of your shaft - a fixed stainless steel circle - that would fix the teeth of the equinox handle ... I would have made a tighter and more massive fit on the surface of the handrail and could hold on to the powerbank ... so the length of the shaft could reach 55-60 cm.
 

Yes it blinks very long, you definitely will keep it blinking also the whole winter  ...-good optical function of the battery charge status ..- I would appreciate this feature at any metal detector ..

Finally I did it so that I bought a Big Equinox 15x12 coil for myself and one piece Equinox Adapter for the shaft of the Golden Mask, and that adapter sent my colleagues from this forum to the USA ..

...It's progress, in metal detectors ..- lightweight, compact,- the smallest and also the powerful detector ... .. this progress has its plus ,,...and also its minus-had battery capacity in the next years, it does not have to be enough for multi-frequency technology.

Coils are also more expensive because there is at least -50% of the detector.

1:We call Phrunt ... many detectors are fine, maybe the best detectors may be less .. 2: ..Ridge Runner... also calls for technical advances in detectors to have come much faster and for better money..3: Producer: it's time to stretch the sails..
