Hi everyone, I wanted some info on a classic tesoro detector, the lobo supertraq; to begin I would like to understand from which series the tesoro has made the last modifications, I ask this because I believe that already the version with rod and gray box and 10x5 inch coil should have the latest electronic modifications; I saw that in 2018 a series called HT was released which has a 12x10 inch coil and the electronic box placed behind it; having found a version with a small 10x5 plate I wanted to know if it already has the latest changes, because the ht version is not found; another question, on the online manual I read that the automatic balance (I read around that it works very well) performs it only on all metal, so when it goes into discriminate it stays on the last point recorded in all metal, or it only refers to the fixed balance of the three-position diverter of the ground ??? last thing how is this detector on saline beach, even near the water, and in areas with dark volcanic sand? Thank you

    Hello

Only the color was changed on the SuperTraq. Everything is the same. I have a Tesoro SuperTraq that I am selling. I have 2. I only need one now.

Infinium and side mount? Not cumbersome at all. My main issue with the Infinium at this point is it had a high failure rate even when new, and anything you buy now is very old, no warranty. I'd kind of like one myself, but that fact alone puts me off.

The photo below has an odd "stick" my headphones plug into. It was a crude adapter I made to use aftermarket phones. Garrett finally made a proper dongle, but there was none available for years.

In reference to the ATX as a side/shoulder/waist mount, with the Infinium coil and rod attached to the ATX body. Cumbersome?

Yup, I understand that, and appreciate your feedback. I was responding to rled2005s comment about the cost to do a full conversion, like I did.

    Steve,

How cumbersome is the chest/waist/side mount while using the Infinium coil and ‘S’ rod?.

You won’t be able to retune the coil without the exact equipment White’s had. It looks like the repair facility has it which is good news.

No, that was done before I broke into it. It’s working fine now since I made some changes.

Id just use silicone caulk, or even latex caulk. Doesn't require anything super strong, as long as it sticks.

    Jim

I put white Gorilla construction adhesive on it to seal the coil bottom. Looks great. It works 10 times better now. By adding some closed cell foam in three points to equalize the cover pressure the problem went away. No bump problems now!

yep, Garrett 24k coils work on the Whites 24k with no modifications and are no doubt much better build quality, the more I read the more it seems Whites were terrible at making coils, might be why they used Detech for some.

I have two Whites 6" Concentrics for my 24k now, glad I have a spare now after reading about how bad their coils are.  I hope Garrett makes the 6" Concentric soon, I'd like a better quality coil.

Thanks for posting the photos, interesting seeing inside it.

Thanks Simon. I’ll check into Garrett’s coil. I don’t think that I want to keep messing with this one

The problem on my first one was a spot on top, to the right of the rod mount. Any ground contact, that pushed the rod to the right, cause a downward pressure on that spot, and caused a signal. I figured I could make a bridge of some sort so the rod would no longer push that spot down. never did it, but Steve at Whites sent the bad one back with the new one, at my request. (they were going out of business anyway). I have not looked into the problem with the replacement. It's not as bad, but still sensitive to knocks unless the gain is cranked way down.

    Jim

Downward pressure on the rod causes it to sound off on mine also. The whole coil inside appears to be glued to the upper casing. I'm kind of fearful of trying to remove the foam and coil.

It seems that the side bump problem is gone. I'm curious if the Garrett coils are a direct fit?

Sounds like a bad coil. The coils are not “filled” but that’s beside the point. Unusual knock sensitivity is not normal in the 24K.

Well, I got the cover off. The repair guy said it could be the bridge. The black piece in one of the pictures is a foam rubber that keeps pressure on the bottom cover. I added some closed-cell foam under the bridge (foam rubber piece) and two other places to equalize the pressure. and the problem seems to have gone away. Apparently, they fill the coil a little. I originally bought the 24K as an open box from Whites. Looks like someone worked on it before.

I had it on the first coil I got, and also, but not as bad, on the replacement they sent. Only the 10". Haven't seen it on either the 6", or the 14". Still really like my 24K. I can fix the first one. I know where the problem is, and can build a bridge  over the location causing the problem. I haven't diagnosed the problem with the second one. I'm glad that Steve sent me back the bad one when they warranteed it. Good to have a backup, though not as important now that Garrett has picked it up.

    Jim

Jim, should I fix it myself or send it to the repair guy he n Oregon? He want $50 to look at it, plus parts.

  10. Has anyone had problem with slight bumps on the 10” coil false firing? I turned the sensitivity down, but it still does it. It seems that the coil wasn’t filled with anything to stabilize the windings or internal wires. With the scuff cover off, the bottom seems hollow and flimsy feeling.

They function. How well they work depends on what you are doing. My modified build has nothing different in the circuitry - it’s just an ATX in another box.

When you dug into the ATX, did you notice if the 2 battery packs are in parallel or series, i.e., does it run on 6vdc or 12vdc?

Does the infinium coils work just as good as the ATX coil? Probably not since they are not tuned for the machine. But they do work and might be “better” for situations where the size itself is advantageous.

Also, will the new Axiom coils work with the ATX circuitryI don’t know. In general there is no magic to be had using coils not specific to a detector. They may work, but usually have issues due to a mismatch. For instance, ground balance may be off. PI are more forgiving than VLF though.

I’m just referring to your modified ATX build.

Sorry, I didn't catch that bad grammar. How are the Infinium coils working with the ATX circuitry.

Oh, I knew it would get done. One hallmark of my personality type is once I start something 99% of the time it will be followed through to completion. I can't stand leaving things unfinished so eventually I am almost forced to get them done or it just keeps bugging me.

Here is the Garrett LTX in better light. Click on photos for closeup. With 5" x 10" DD coil (4 lbs 11.7 oz or 4.73 lbs with batteries) and then also with 3" x 7" DD coil (4 lbs 6.2 oz or 4.39 lbs), and a closeup of the control box (2 lbs 6.1 oz or 2.38 lbs, hip or chest mountable).

My book was written to benefit gold hunters everwhere around the world. Here is a review from Australia. I have things in my book you won't find in any other book, such as The Townes Theory. Also I don't know anyone else talking about learning the characterizations of Mass Wasting either. From The U.S.A., Australia, Africa, Turkey, etc.... My book will apply.

It's pretty much up to my son what he buys.
