If I had it I would for sure Norm--- i do have some Corona and knowing Fred -- the thought would be what counted so I will have one or two ... - i got to go to his home and meet him and his wife in 2017 before my OZ trip--- You could always hear the yearning in his voice for WA.... RIP brother
-
A great one... he was definitely one of a kind...
Oh how he loved to Australia... and any stories about it,..
condolences to his wife and family.
Paul

Thats a good observation Mitch, you are thinking and using the new knowledge to apply it in the field...
I would have missed that angle.
But it is logical.

Easy now ... you'll be going down and pick Fred up and we'll never see you two again!
Do you have a plan for this year?
No set plans--- travel is ....problematic--- I am going up to the boat in SE Alaska after my contract ends in May 30th...
After that I m really getting a hankering to get back over and show the fellas how to get on the gold---
Nothing like a year off to exacerbate the gold fever---- !!!!
Haven't made a trip over the top of OZ yet and I may do that this winter--- if its not too hot when i get there---
if it is i will camp somewhere in WA...
or the Philippines😎

Very nice Norm

One more question Dale...... (for now)😆
Fridge location??? Same as our earlier set up?
That worked a treat for me..Still had plenty of room on top for detectors..
I actually ended up sitting them on the jump seats ,,,
and then I could put a detector or pick and things underneath all the way across.

Hahahahaa..
I 'm doing like the boss says and researching my little island in Alaska that evidently put out some pretty good gold bacl in the day, but the bigger strikes up north Alaska made all th eminers pack up and leave for greener pastures... going to be an interesting read.
Hey i need a 15 inch Equinox coil,,, can you send me one?????

Now if that`s the HOT spot I think it is, tis going to be a wee problem, heh heh has been "sanitised" with a ZX combo, now I`m certainly not saying tis all got, lots of depth there. Maybe that new ML weapon that JPs testing at the moment might just be the go, what you reckon we put some combined pressure on JP and he sends me one, I`ll give a complete field report and keep you 1/2 Scouts Honour………………..
this is a new--Hot Spot---- ---- that's' all i can say or i will be excommunicated!!! 😉

I'm getting the bush basher serviced and ready for action.
Last year in the off season I bought a 100 series landcruiser and cut it into an extra cab ute and built heavy scrub bars and side steps and a heavy roof rack out of 3mm wall chromemolly tube that acts as a exo roll cage. Then added a 4in lift, adjustable shocks, 33in tires, lockers front and rear, 270L diesel capacity, 180L of water, ect ect.
Side steps fabricated.
Bash plates
Cut off back
Fabricated new back and doors
Fabricated tray support and chassis strengthening
Build tray and roofrack
Cab finished with tray skeleton installed
Install battery carrier, water tank, recovery gear drawer.
Now I'm about to start building a prospecting specific 4x4 quad bike. I recently purchased a Polaris 570 sportsman that I'm currently stripping off all of the plastics and non essentials like indicators, brake lights, ect.
And replacing them with custom front and rear trays, scrub bars, bash/skid plates, storage, roll protection, larger battery system, solar charging system, extra fuel, water and winch front and rear. All designed for extended prospecting trips in remote locations and safety in rough terrain on my own.
Should keep me busy until the wet is over
Hey Dale,
Would you mind explaining to the group why you decided to cut the 100 series down instead of using the commercially produced Extra cab?
I know you have already explained it to me , but i think others here may enjoy the story of how you came to this decision.
It is obviously a lot of work, but you will end up with a masterful bush rig.

She's turning out to be a beaut mate.------ Is that the same size box on the back we put on mine??? 700mm?
Side steps??? Look more like rockers to me--- I know how you drive haahahaha--- I think they will be strong enough to let you slide into those places you are going.
How many batteries in the back for the fridges etc? we had 2--- Are you going with 4? Wouldnt hurt to have the extra capacity the way you roll for weeks.
I LIKE IT!!

I may go back to FNQ end of this year or next summer depending on the wet...
I have a HOT spot located that i need to check out in FNQ...~~~~
I was going to say that the wider belts are great for the Hipstick , but after reading all the way thru i see you found that out already.
Much nicer than digging into your hip-- at least on a fat boy...lol
Good luck this year mate
Break all the rules they throw at you this year and get some gold!!!!!

Come on Paul...
Didn't you learn anything when you were with me...
Best way to deal with trashy piles is jump on your bike/quad and go to the middle of nowhere where there is no trash!
Hey have you been on any missions this year???
-
Thanks Rob,
Guess i could afford to lose the weight up there this year.... tater fork and rake it down!
The gold mine up above had some beautiful specimens of nuggets in the quartz-- and there are many other little tributaries to look in..
Researching this first is going to be the go...
I have a couple of good books to read in the next two months--
Probably try to go to Australia in December when it is good and warm!!! Like AZ in the summer
-
Thanks Rob,
But you know that wasn't answer I was hoping for...lolo
Do you have a website source for the magnets that you trust?
Thanks again-- i will send you pictures---------(of the trash hahahaha)

Shut the dozer off before detecting so you don't get interference from the alternator and avoid skidding one track to turn and you will shed less detectable steel off of the grousers. An excavator with a thumb may work better if there are large boulders.
Hope this helps.
it would except these tailings are in heavily wooded areas and are small piles that I have seen so far.. maybe later on the excavator
Excited because I ran into a prospector there who has a claim in the area I was reading about and had driven around-- he installs satellite systems and I will be picking his brain when i get up there this June.....
Looks like i iwll have to put off Australia until the hot.... thats OK tho--- less grey nomads around!!!!! 🤠

It’s an island of trash Dale
no where to run
except FNQ

Paul he sold them already at quartzsite
Whaaaaaaaat... i cant believe it---- shocker...

you know what i am waiting on is that person who tells me how to discriminate out the trash.... 😁
Of course if everyone did that i wouldnt have gotten my keys back would I??? lol
_________Thanks for that btw!
If any of you wonder..............
this has to do with the time i lost my keys in Yuma desert mountains and had to have beatup tow my Seqouia out to the main road,,which was an interesting ride with no brakes or steering to speak of..
Cost about 2000 dollars for new keys and fobs at Toyota, but other brother eric or brett ??? found them this year in a wash where i lost them.... he also found 3 or 4 nuggets with in 10 feet ...that i am sure fell out of my pocket too--- i couldnt have missed that many could I????????????? lolol---
Thanks for returning the key and I am still waiting on him to return the nuggets--😇 Just do the right thing!! 🤣

If not too trashy I’d be running the GPX with 18” round mono coil and digging everything. There is nothing magic about detecting tailing piles with a VLF. Either no discrimination and dig everything, or minimal ferrous rejection. Looking for nuggets so Park 2 a good place to start, see https://www.detectorprospector.com/forums/topic/6799-equinox-800-gold-nugget-detecting-tips/ for possible settings. I’d be using the 15” coil with steveg rod and balance kit.
Check out my Steve’s Journal and tales about Ganes Creek, Moore Creek, and Fortymile country (Jack Wade, etc), plus 2013 and 2014 adventures.
steveg rod and balance kit.????? What is this???
I cant believe there is a piece of equipment i havent seen or bought yet!!!! 🤠
