Hello, I just found this site and was really drawn in by the knowledge and experience the community has. I'm always looking to better my detecting techniques and I can tell this forum will be a great resource.

A little about me. I have been detecting for nearly 4 years now and cannot get enough of it. Every time out I feel like I learn something new and improve my methods of hunting. I originally purchased a Garrett Ace 400 to test out the hobby and quickly found that the machine lacked the details I was looking for, so I picked up the Deus and have been an avid XP fan since. I now regularly hunt with the Deus 2 and the Nox 900, mostly in parks here in the Pacific Northwest.

Welcome aboard, Aurorahammer. You have some great detectors there.

    Good Luck & Have Fun

Some 40 years ago I gave the detector to a niece back east with the hope it might catch her interest. Not sure about her use, its condition or whereabouts. Your question will remind me to ask.

Please don't ask. That way you prevent your niece to tell the truth what may hurt you or to tell not the truth what may hurt her. Leave it untouched, be happy the way it is. If you had interest in that had you would have asked her earlier, right? 😉

New to this forum, but not new to forums, I'm sorta new to detecting, I just got my detector in April, but ive watched a lot of decectorist on youtube and get a lot of hours in so I dont feel extremely new to detecting

I just got banned from the metal detecting subreddit, for posting a nokta video when a guy asked me for a source when I was talking about the new legend update, I get posting videos is against the rules now, but like what should have I done, told the guy no sorry I won't help you

I have a legend, v1.11 and a simplex plus, and I bought my mom a vanquish 540 that I can borrow any time I want, but havnt actually got around to trying the vanquish yet

Is there a forum here for posting metal detecting finds? Thats mainly what I did on reddit anyways

    Welcome aboard, young rebell.

Yes, there are different forums to post your finds. (i.e. Detector Prospector; Metal Detecting for Coins & Jewelry; Metal Detecting for Relics...)

Hi, I am new to this site. I have been metal detecting for coins and stuff since 1969. Started civil war relic hunting in 1980. Since my start in this hobby, I have used somewhere around 50 different detectors, and still own more than 12. My oldest now is a Compass 99B and my newest is the Minelab Equinox 900. I don't get out as much as I want to, but I have fun when I do. My oldest coin is a Scottish bawbee 1678.

Welcome aboard Toanodigger. A man never can own enough detectors. The downside is he only can swing one at a time... 😄

I am still in the learning phase about coils and have a question about Detech coils.  Has anyone conducted a test or field test of Detech coils vs Nel coils vs other after market coils vs stock coils, especially for any of the Whites instruments?  I am especially interested in results for the TDI series or Goldmaster 24k?  Just curious.  Thanks in advance for any help.

Sorry for the delay and I'm not helpful for what you're asking about the TDI or 24K but... I own 3 Detech coils (7" Ultimate, 9" Ultimate & Arrow) and all perform better than the stock coils (compared to the 4x6, 6x10, 10", 1400, 950 & Super 12).

Yes, just got back from a work trip... and the two new screens were waiting for me.  Plugged in screen 1 and found a large black line.  Well that sucks.  Plugged in screen 2 and similar results, although the black large line is located elsewhere on the screen.  Tried re-seating the ribbon cables several times, and playing with them to see if the results would change.  Nada.

Found the issue is really with the backlight, which is fed from the smaller ribbon cable.  You can see in one of the photos I disconnected the LCD input and the black line remains.  If I remove the smaller backlight cable, and keep only the LCD input - there are no issues except for not having a backlight.

I'm wondering if these are just a bad batch or something.  I've reached out to the seller to see if he'll accept a return or send me two additional screens as replacement.

    Hello chiil.

First off, you do a great job on this.

One question is, can you adjust the backlight brightness and will this take affect to the "dark" lines? My guess is the light is somewhat triggered and if it is switched "on" it is shortening the data from the display. Just a guess.

What I would try is to drive backlight directly from the battery but the current limited by a resisitor.

May be Carl Moreland can chime in.

    Hi everyone,

I am fairly new to metal detecting and and can only detect on the local beaches. In about five weeks I found a silver chain, tungsten carbide ring, sixty euros, toy cars and loads of screws, nails, bottle tops and ring pulls but I now know what some of the trash sounds like plus the numbers they are so it i am digging less trash.  Enjoying the fresh air and the early mornings on the beach as well.

    With regards,

    Dave with a Nokta Simplex
