Yes, you want the Geotech forum. This is more a forum for casual to serious end users, with just a little tech sprinkled in. Geotech is where the serious circuit people gather.

That is a nice way to call some of them "freaks", Steve. 🙄😄

What is the point of this coil. Doesn't it's increased length negate how narrow it is. In other words aren't you massively increasing the probability of getting multiple targets under the coil at the same time versus one of the same width but only 7" long?

Yes, you're correct to say so, if searching in littered areas. But if you have "clean" ground you cover a lot of more ground by one sweep. So this is the coil for big areas with little trash.

  3. Hello Flavius. Welcome to the forum.

Is that a picture of the area you're living in? Wow, beautiful. What detectors do you use and what are your most common finds?

No clue what I'm doing here, hope you will excuse my ignorance.

I ran a White's proto type UW detector for some years, I gave it back to the friend that loaned it to me, he then loaned me a Nokta simplex that I used for a few months.

Well he called that back to raise funds for a 15" coil for his Nox 800

So I got somewhat familiar with Simplex and wound up getting a Nokta Legend so here I am in a brave new world.

Welcome aboard, joneb. A good start would be reading all the things related to the detector you're going to own.

and you can use the board-search...

and you may post your questions, adventures and finds. There are a lot of members who will help, read and enjoy.

A guy can't have just one, right? Very situational for me. So, to make it brief, of all of the machines/brands that I've owned over the years I've narrowed it down to four which are the ones I still have.Three are ML and a Deus....a GPX 4500 has netted me the most gold, the 6000 just hasn't had the time on it yet though I'm confident it will surpass the 4500, the E-trac the most coins ( non trashy yard and park hunting), the Deus has accounted for the most coins and relics in trashy areas. Garret was/is the least impressive of all for me. Nok/Mak was good but the shine wore off fast for me. I've easily owned and enjoyed more ML machines than any other brands.

Hi. Right now that you broke it down to four it should be easy to say which one is the most fun to use and dig good finds.😊😉

  6. Welcome aboard, Mongo. Glad you joined and yes, you'll find a lot of hints & help here if it is needed as there are a lot of nice & helpful people here. All I can say is, practice, practice, practice; that's  the key, and if in doubt, dig.

And about the bad weather... all was said from the posters above: reading books, reading the manual, reading the forums.

All The Best & Happy Hunting... 😊👍

Thanks Locator...looking forward to share this great hobby. Do you use white detectors still ? I occasionally get down to NE Kansas near Marysville to detect. Right along the old Oregon trail...do you find much luck out there ?

Hi Diggitdaddy, yes, I'm still using my White's as long as they will work. Hunting along the Oregon trail sounds like a lot of fun and good finds for sure.

    Good Luck & Happy Hunting

Deolslyfox ran me off the White’s forum for posting about the Sierra Pulse Pro, deleting my posts, claiming it was not a “White’s” detector. Since it was made by White’s at the behest of Jimmy Sierra, and only available through his west coast dealers. This apparently did not please Fox, and the Kellyco controlled “official White’s forum.” Steve Howard finally straightened them out about it, and apologized to me, but by then I’d taken my marbles and gone home. So I can understand why he might not show up here.

I know this wasn't fun, Steve; and reminds me a few more bad stories. White's had good luck to have Steve Howard, a very nice and helpful man.

I knew how this process works already...but I thoroughly enjoyed the video!

There is one bit that is untrue....the reason the gold bars are tapered, he said it was so a man couldn't grip it easily to pick it up.....why would anyone be worried about someone picking it up, it had to be picked up to move it around, the true reason was so that the bar would drop out of the mold easily after the bar was poured and cooled.

Thanks for the correction, Gold Seeker.👍
