As bad as the design of the AQ limited is, with very limited battery life, I could live with all that if it had some reliable discrimination that was touted from the beginning. Sadly, it's just a slightly overpriced, poorly designed, and temperamental  dig everything PI machine.

Didn't you read the micro fine print ?......" discrimination varies on one's hearing " 🤣

I assume he is referring to the AQ Limited. Which supposedly was being redesigned physically, because yes, it really needs it. But Kellyco and FT video's imply more on the way in the original Limited housing - which sucks. I'd buy another AQ in a proper housing with drop in batteries, but the Limited design needs to be replaced. So my big question is, did FT abandon the planned redesign of the housing, and is staying with the flawed design?

This is what was being promised back in August and earlier:

    1. Battery system replaced entirely with four drop in 18650 rechargeable Li-Ion batteries
    2. Depth rating to be increased
    3. Lower rod made longer to accommodate taller users
    4. Headphone connection being relocated to back of pod
    5. An 8” accessory coil is in the works (done)

And it was also supposed to be in our hands by now, or at least an announcement made. Well, we got the announcement, but it's apparently just more of the same old same old. The Limited was supposed to be 100 units and no more. So are they still just trying to sell the original 100?

    What a mess.

Here is what Kellyco is hawking as "new for 2022." Looks like just the same old Limited model to me, but maybe they had no photos of the new version? Would be poor advertising were that the case to at least not note that. And the discrimination claims are way over the top still. Worst of all "Written by Corey Hoff, Chief Revenue Officer at First Texas Products" Seriously, the Chief Revenue Officer, whatever that is, is writing ad copy?

I'm sorry to say that my once favorite company has lost all credibility with me. I'll believe it when I see it, and even then only after others have used it first. This reminds me all too much of the final days of the old Los Banos Fisher.

Love your comments on this. I can tell you're so pissed off and disappointed that it is now a joke. Reminded me of a few decades ago when a couple friends and I went out to dinner. The food and service was so horrendous that I left this note on a napkin : "Tip - get out of the restaurant business."

This kind of comparison needs to be grounded in a solid knowledge of the site and both detectors.  A pulse in not a machine to scout around with--except in the cleanest of beaches.  That Said, with some good basic pulse skills it's possible to have a decent level of accuracy.  There's  such a thing as a pulse that will give a lot of target information.  Examples are the Barracuda, and the CS6PI.  While these are not exactly mainstream  detectors--they do the job of  a pulse while offering some selectivity.  The Fisher Impulse AQ also offers rudimentary tone ID and like the TDI--great audio.  The idea of scouting and assessing with a VLLF is a good one though.  As well there are situations where pulse is just overkill.   The NOX is a great machine for picking though junk--especially in that you  can select for "clean" metal using the F2 bias. The real skill in using multiple machines is in finding and recognizing  situations where each can do what it does best.

I don't agree with much of this. And I been pulsing forever. The last thing I want is a pulse on big barren desert beaches. Reason is you really have to find the dips , scallops, etc and work very slow. Your not covering ground. I prefer a light to medium trash and good target rich area , as the deep gold I can pick out over other inexperienced hunters , using say a Nox. In extreme heavy trash , a pulse is almost unworkable. Heavy mineralization and black sand I want a pulse. But I do agree on being able to locate and read a beach is of utmost importance.

I was going to wait and see what the reviews were going to be on a Legend.

But Getting 10%off and No Sales Tax (Coupon expired last night}if I wait I will lose the 10%.Too me I can wait whenever they get it in(I am sure it might be a bit longer then the big guys}But I am sure it will be a good detector if not better then the Nox800.....JT

That's if the company doesn't take your $ and run. I've been burned before on unreal deals before. Especially on a product that isn't even in yet. Not just the small companies , big shops fold up too. GL and I hope it works out for you.

My Equinox 600 goes very deep  at Huntington Beach & Bolsa Chica Beach’s ……can’t comment on other beach’s  ……..very happy ……..I’ve also used PI’s in The Pass …….with good luck.

With The 600 I really only need one detector …..works great on Beach wet sand / Dry sand & My local Parks

Try going a bit north to sunset. Under a cut , when it's deep black. That puppy will be worthless. And the pi ain't much better. Lol

I've been around detecting in Ventura County since the mid 90's. I'm not interested in a pissing contest to see who has more credibility. Your passive-aggressive nature and use of sarcasm is duly noted. Blanket statements are things people use when they lack credibility. All cops are bad, all teachers are bad. You have experience with some and you cast aspersion around all. You don't know me and I think at this point that is a good thing.

Ya got 2 things correct : I don't know you and I got a ton of sarcasm ! The rest , not so much. If you actually READ my post , I said a few "bad apples". Just because there is 1 bad cop , doesn't mean they all are. I have never taken that approach. Don't be a snowflake just because I voiced some personal knowledge , experience about some RFds. I have 2 very close personal friends who are local RFs and I hunt with them often. They are straight up guys. Anyways , GL to you....now go save the world !

Not to toot my horn but merely to show that there are many of us who do things with our metal detectors that don't involve jewelry. This is a link from my site from April 2020. I got a call from this fellow to see if I could help. Little did I know at the time the significance of the find and what I'd have to do to get there. Evidently had we not found the two seemingly insignificant parts they were going to have to shut down power between parts of Ventura and LA county in order to get the parts because Covid had caused shut downs and parts were weeks out and these two couplers meant power staying on or going out.

    https://www.venturacountyringfinder.com/post/electrical-rings-found-filmore

I got "paid" $150 for going off-road in my vehicle, climbing 2000 feet in elevation trying to beat a major rainstorm coming and then hanging on the side of hillside to find these rings. To assume any one of the ringfinders are A-holes is just plain stupid and juvenile.

I'm quite sure you haven't been around long enough or to have any knowledge of what has gone with a few of these bad apples. I have 1st hand knowledge and experience with a couple of them. Don't think any have been kicked out for stealing or doing something deceptive and wrong ? Think again....How about being physically threatened to get off "their beach" , even when offering additional help to search for a lost item ? We'll...I have. Make no mistake , I'm all for guys making $ on the service. You got expenses , experience , etc. You for example saved power to Oxnard. But for many who are unaware , they are not all volunteer goody-too-shoes.

I always thought that this was more of a "community/volunteer service" sort of operation. But apparently I was wrong and many users rely on that website to turn their metal detecting hobby into a for-profit business.

    To each their own.

That is exactly what it is. I know some of the guys on here are members , but don't know them personally enough to know how they operate. But I do know 3 or 4 locally. They claim of this great service they provide and it pumps up their egos. But in reality they are in it for the $. Some returns they might get $20-60. Others $0. But more often they get 100s , more than melt. It's typically "pay what you can afford". But they are often praying upon emotions , which often leads to an open wallet. I have known some who have kept an item and not returned it because the "reward" wasn't high enough. Some are total Aholes when you are hunting nearby. Claiming it is "their beach". Have gotten close to a few brawls with these clowns. But overall , most are good guys ....but they do provide a "service".

There is a SoCal local that does a lot of u-tube videos and uses the EQ800.  Although he continually seems to find decent stuff, he has done several videos of the Equinox missing, hardly hearing, or skewing the IDs of targets due to the ferrous content of the sand. I’ve run tests playing with FE1 and 2 that where iron will mask out coins nearby - I imagine the ferrous content of the sand will do the same.  So if you can put up with the junk I think you could do better than a Nox on some beaches.  Lately though just no targets on my beaches. I’ve been trying different machines with no real winner.  KOB just found everything - nothing left.

I wonder if many Beach Hunter TDI’s were sold?  I don’t get out a lot but have maybe just seen one in the field. I’m curious if it would be as good as my GP Extreme (or KOB’s DF).  The GP is not waterproof and a bit complex with the battery and audio solution.  The GP also somehow misses a lot of foil.  Guess that means it misses chains too.  How does your TDI do on chains vs the Nox?

I wish could say I found it all ! Lol... But really there are only a couple beaches both in OC and LA that have the heavy black sand. Down south in SD , there are many. So bad in fact that the Nox will overload , rendering it worthless to hunt. The PIs are workable , but they are a nightmare. To the point where even I had to abort. You have to move extremely slow with the coil about 6" off the sand. You will not get coverage. All machines will lose depth here. But here lies some quality finds if you have the patience. And you better have some sharp ears for that rapid machine gun fire symphony that is gonna blast through your headphones.

  10. Being a So.Cal hunter myself having the same set ups , I know exactly what you're talking about. But I have on a  few occasions absolutely crushed it going behind the Noxers. What others have said here is spot on. Though they are not mentioning 1 very key element. The mentality of HOW they hunt. I have posted many times in detail before on this. But frankly now , I won't be sharing anymore of these "secrets" on giving others an edge in areas we all hunt.

And another one will say 5, another 10....

I really wish we could... you also need to take into account the price point the product is offered at.

    Thanks for your understanding.

Well now that is a stretch ! I still stand by my statement on the 4 yr. The whole marketing pitch with the Legend is that it is EQUAL or BETTER than the competition. If we went down a checklist on paper , I'm sure you could mark them all off. The only unknown as of now is the performance. So yes , the 3 year EQUALS the other. Regardless , I have been following Nokta and like what I've seen so far. Even though I have never owned one. Maybe the next version of the Nox will better , idk as I'm done with the current model. I look forward to being a successful user of The Legend !

  12. A find is a find. It still goes in the treasure chest. Here is from earlier this year. 1st pic is taken from when I opened my car door upon getting to one of my beaches. At 1st I thought it was an earring. It's a 14k crushed nugget ring. After scavenging the rest of the lot , I also got this crushed silver ring. I was up before my coil hit the sand. It all counts.

53". That's top of coil to end of arm cuff fully extended.  But this is an S-shaft so it should not have to be quite as long as a straight shaft for same fit.  The straight shaft for me needs to be longer than this.  But this is fine for me .

Ok. Thanks for taking the time to measure that. There are disadvantages to being tall. Especially with detector shafts , my walking pace and walk gape.

  14. I can tell you where the Legend has already failed (for me) and that is the length. I'm 6'5 and the Legend is only 52" extended. The Nox is I think 56" , and that wasn't long enough until I went with Steve's CF which added 2". I can't find the info on what the Deus 2 extended max length is. Hopefully I can get a longer "tall man" CF lower for the Legend. I haven't even bought it yet and it's failed !🤣

    True.

But you don't want to lose out on sales b/c you undermarketed a product. But you also don't want to take a hit to your reputation b/c you couldn't meet expectations. It's a fine line, of course. Also, keep in mind that overpromising and underdelivering often leads to more profits/benefits than the other way around. That's one reason why it happens so often, whether it's in private industry, politics or the dating world.

Are you saying that N/M is walking that fine line better than XP is?

Whenever you overpromise and under deliver , you run into many issues. Sure , you can make profits in the short run. But never in the long game. For starters , legal issues and recalls ( misrepresenting the product , fraud ). When companies do this whether knowingly or not it portrays them as not being transparent , untrustworthy and scammers. On the 2nd go around , smart people are not coming back. PERIOD. Maintaining your reputation and how you handle something when it goes south means the world to alot of people. Sadly , in these times there are many that just don't care either. Regarding XP , I don't know enough about them to honestly comment. Though I do have a pinpointer that has worked flawlessly the few times I've used it.

But a company advertising something is "shockproof" (depending on the company) makes a difference.

So yes, it's all about the build quality, but the better the build quality, the more promises a company can make in reference to the build quality.

Perhaps the Legend is more shockproof than the Deus II, but N/M has higher standards before they market a feature in one of their products...I don't know. So I have to assume (for now), that XP explicitly touting the shockproofness of their Deus II means it'll be more robust in real world conditions than the Legend.

It's better to under promise and over deliver , than over promise and under deliver.

I just realized thanks to this graphic that the Deus II has shock resistance. I don't know what kind of "rating" it is, but I don't recall any other metal detecting company having that as a feature.

I don't have a job or hobby that necessitates equipment or gear that's "shock rated." However, after using a G-Shock watch for 5+ years, I have come to appreciate that when something is built to be shockproof, it often means there's a level of quality and robustness that isn't present with non-shock-designed devices.

Ignoring everything else about the Deus II in terms of performance, it's almost like this machine is the "Panasonic Toughbook" of metal detectors, which if true, would be a very nice bonus.

It'll take a while, but I'm excited to see if the Deus II has a level of durability that meets or exceeds our expectations.

No different than the Legend being shock proof , though not advertised as such. It's in the build quality unlike the Nox housing. Similar to "military grade" on cell phone cases. Or a drop test on the cellphone itself.
