That and the fact that there are so many more guys hunting and everyone has multi-frequency detectors.  Where years ago we used to be able to always pick up some coins here and there that has really changed.  The lowest tech I ever see at the beach anymore is an Equinox.  Deus II's have really taken over out here.  I've seen one PI in the last two years, same guy using an old White's Surfmaster and he swears it will beat anything.  Funny thing is he never has anything to show but who knows, right?  I'd rather be lucky than good when it comes to beach hunting!

Hey , hey , hey ! Well I still do pretty good with my "old" whites. I do post some finds. But ya gotta remember. Not everyone shows or even talks about all their finds. Myself included. Only seen a few D2 users out , but I think there are probably a few more.

Not been hunting of late but when I do my favorite beaches are spots that have been closed, forgotten. Most here closed in the late 1960's. These are not ocean beaches, .........but bay waters, which can be calm to rough. sand is constantly on the move just not as much as the ocean. Here I've found hunting a few hundred feet off shore can produce the best results. Every spot is different but mostly here I'll skip all shallow targets, and listen for faints. If I come by heaverier (deep) coins like quarters (silver) or nickels I'm in the right zone for gold.  A great sign is crunchies.. a layer of broken shells. These can be deep or less than 10 inches, its a matter of timing, being there as soon as it happens.

One of the coolest things you do on your channel that nobody else does is showing your gratitude by thanking the Lord.

I don't beach hunt but for maybe twice a year. My first beach adventure yielded pocket change and tent stakes, The second was better with a platinum and diamond ring, A tackle box full of sinkers and tent stakes. Many misc. jewelry pieces later I have come to realize you find good stuff where you swing and sometimes not. In reality its the luck of the draw and no advise will point you to some random person doing something stupid to loose a very expensive piece of jewelry.

Now that's a ring ! Your assessment on luck of the draw is very accurate when it comes down to it. Only advice I can give to up the odds are hunt where the more affluent play. You would think wearing expensive jewelry comes with commonsense and intelligence , but that's not always the case.

...Gold is everywhere! Just, go out and dig.

There's no pattern to follow. Specific weight is high, that the only guide.

Study your beach, winds, tides, bathing areas. And a little luck!...

Not so sure about that one .!!! Not saying it is because it's not in my hands or tested it. But EVERY ring that l have found that looks like that is brass. FAKE. But it will show up in that diagram ya got there.

  5. A couple months ago I posted here a thread about my 22k chain I found and the experience I went through with testing and selling it. Including the $30k handheld machine to test it. Fakes over the last 2 years have been showing up exceptionally well made. Very heavy plating that will fool the pros. Heavy fake gold plated rings are usually brass. I recently found a very heavy 18k stamped chain. My acid test showed it good. Jeweler really dug into it on his test stone. His 18k acid revealed a blueish color. Meaning it was silver underneath. Acid kits need to be replaced at the latest , every 6 months for accuracy. For diamonds , my guy will give them to me for free. That should tell you something.  They really need to be a third carat or larger to be worth something , preferably 3/4 and up. Points and chips , good luck.

In the past I have counted it as broken ring not an actual one. I just wanted to see what others counted them as.

There’s a lot of people that count even silver and other non precious metals as part of their ring count for the year. I was just wondering on this forum what pieces of gold rings were counted as. I personally, only count gold rings.

As far as silver coins, if it’s as a whole even if thin I count them. If it’s broken/cut in half I don’t count them. When it comes to Spanish silver, I don’t have to worry about it since I will probably never find any as a beach hunter 😔

Since joining forums about 6 years ago , I have counted ALL rings if someone asks. Otherwise I only count gold PIECES in my yearly totals. Ring , broken ring bit , earring , part of a gold chain would count as 4 pieces. But in my day , we only counted by WEIGHT. Like how many ounces did you find this month. Or how many pounds did you find this year...

That may be a POV?  The Manticore will produce more finds than the Equinox. [and I really like the Equinox]
One should pay attention to poster "meggie" over on Friendly Forums to see what the Manticore can do from someone who is swinging it.

I do look at his posts. But he isn't out here. Point being it is not a blow it all away machine. Let's see the Manticore in blacksand against 7 others with Nox's. I have , and they were all getting the same. Of course I'd still like a Manticore. But my DF is still eating them alive.

Strick I can not argue with you.  My point is the original Equinox was the must have detector that was impossible to buy in the beginning, the Manticore is selling like it is just another detector.  Cabela's had 14 in stock when I went to bed last night and now they have 13 in stock.  Not exactly flying off the shelf.  I wish you all the luck in the world with your Manticore, but I think you can find anything with whatever machine you use.  It's like anything else, skill of the craftsman is more important than the tool used.

Totally agree. Guys I know that have them are no dummies , we'll except 1 but he is mentally challenged. It is difficult to admit after one waits and spends all this $ on a Manticore to admit there are some faults/flaws in it. To admit being wrong or have regrets. Bottomline here is : it hasn't found anything a Nox couldn't. But I think this could change due primarily to beach conditions. They are both good machines. But $500-700 more ? NO

I have the Manticore here for the second time testing.

All-in all, the Manticore will out hunt the Equinox on the beach. The only place the Equinox will come close is wet sand with no water contact.

The Manticore is Better in moving salt water, and it is not even close. It may be better than the D2, but that would need a little more time to compare.
In all our testing the Manticore is better on gold chains and deep buried gold rings in the wet sand than both the Equinox and D2.

We are out for the last day of a 5-day stretch of testing. Yesterday was chain day, the top two were found the Manticore and the bottom one was found with the D2.

Agreed with what you say. But those chains , most any machine will hit those. Very sanded here now. Run the Nox down a stretch of the wet desert. Then follow in the direct path with the Core. Be interesting your results. GL

Well I for one will call you Rosie, because I just don't believe the "cent", "nickel", "silver", and "gold" story.

    Rosie is a G1. Lol

I call him coin ajus. Like the juice you dip roast beef in. And with all the coins , it's easier to pronounce. 🤣. I think with all the gold he's found , the Manticore is about paid for. I don't know how he does it . Maybe he corrected his weed wacker swing he had. Haha !

Not me...I'd venture to say those guys haven't leaned the machine. The M-Core will punch deeper then the Nox 800 no doubt about it.  Pound for pound it's a much better detector esp for turf hunting. I've sold both my 800's and wont be going back...If I find the desire for the simplicity of the compressed ID of the 800 then I can borrow my wife's 800 like I did yesterday while crawling under a stage at an old movie theater with the 6" round coil lol. There are many here that have posted who hunt beaches and are happy with the M-Core...why do you care any way? are you waiting for a revelation of sorts? 🙂 you're mostly a PI guy right?

    strick

Because initially I wanted one. As far as dirt , idk and nor do I care. Mainly referring to beach use. Yes , I'm mainly a PI user. Of course most are happy with them , except for the price. Re-read what I said about comparing with the Nox out here. Just my observation and what I've been told. A revelation would be if they were available to the masses by now ! And not by big box chains disrespecting veterans discounts.

  12. Back around September I predicted that the Manticore would be available to the masses by the end of February. Even after anxiously awaiting the ML Christmas Story that was told. I thought no way , seen this before. Sure enough , as we enter the tail end of March they still aren't here en mass. Not like the Nox. Of course some have them and others are still on a list I see. Unbelievable. Don't want to hear excuses , because we all have them like you know what. So for this my friends , I apologize for my gross prediction error !

On another side note : the few that I know who have them are still learning the machine and have made some good finds. But they are not finding gold that the Nox couldn't have found on the same beach at the same time. The last couple months have had some Epic events and alot of gold was yanked. I'm waiting to see it happen on a tightly packed beach with lots of hunters and only the Manticore pulls it through. Probably not gonna happen and I know of a couple guys who kinda regret forking over the bucks for it.

  13. True , the surf does recycle and bring stuff in. When I talk about a beach being overrun , I mean counting 10 hunters in a relatively tight , small area. I hope you never experience this as it's rather disheartening. Especially when they don't work together.

Thanks everyone, that beach is seriously the best despite everything else around it being sanded in. The treasures keep piling up there, or at least the coins will anyhow. Hopefully there won't be a flood of detectorists, but I did put out hints about which beach it is! 😉
that beach will be my go to beach during lowtide, but I'll need to scout out the area for a another viable beach to detect at in the meantime.

Nice job on the gold. From your comments you are learning much faster than I expected. Backup , multiple beaches are a must. Just be careful and guarded with your favorite Hotspot for as long as you can. Here in So.Cal it doesn't matter anymore whether I post pics of beaches and a map. Between the Youtubers and volume of hunters over the last 5 years in particular , most spots are simply overrun. Sharing a spot amongst friends is a double edged sword. Enjoy it while you can.

While I have not test driven a zillion scoops. For 25 years my RTG aluminum scoop with a stainless lip has served me well. Sure, there has been repairs and reinforcement done over the years but show me a 25 year old scoop that has never had repairs. Muck and mud a RTG would do the task.

Here's my 3 year old RTG ! Yes , I'm rough on my scoops and have owned many. I try to dig fast , no finesse. Normal beach sand and small rocks. NO prying. I had riveted the SS tip once , not worth a 2nd. This was a custom job with a wider band on the scoop itself. Even though it's trashed now , I still highly recommend it for the $200 price tag. But there are better. All my scoops pay for themselves within a couple weeks.

I picked up another one today! But the beaches are running dry. Most are sanded in now, and the beach that has given me a ring every trip is small. I'm pretty much having to thoroughly search it to find a ring IF i'm lucky! I need another storm to wipe out the sand so I can find more stuff.

Like I mentioned before , the guys that consistently kill it have 10 , 20 years or more pounding the surf. Not gonna happen in 2 or 3 years let alone a few months. But you are on your way. Study and research are key. By now , you should have figured out that your small beach is done. And you can't always wait for a storm to hit. Move on to another beach ! Be willing to explore and travel. GL
