  1. I recall way back in early PI days at a ML FNQ OZ get together barbque, a ML employee spoke that audio was not delivering the complete signal from machine to user, certainly appears to me, although early days, Algos treble audio maybe a step in the right direction. This old fella loves it.

  2. I`m in a fairly remote area, get near everything by post/courier, Coles (OZ Supermarket chain) bulk deliver groceries free every few months but I still like to have my detector, coils etc. posted from my dealer as he`s 500ks away one way. I guess to me it will make little difference once Minelab has gone direct, the way it`s going the day is coming when all our local country pubs/hotels close. We`ll end up a bunch of impersonal antisocialists and have to hang tassels on our curtain holders.image.png.712bb7ff7d4671e0e801b5b144512aed.png

  3. Jerry, reading through this thread there certainly is no magic setting for all on any detector, would love to use normal mostly but unfortunately only use in 'final" clean up of patches not finding them which takes most my time swinging. A compromise for sure but that is so for any detector I`ve had to date.

Chet, the Torus are my choice by far on any detector, no doubt with headphones could probably score a few more iffy nuggets/signals but ears that breath are the go.😉

I may try some polycarbonate in the future to see how it compares

Bunnings sell 0.8mm Polycarbonate in a roll 1.2x1.2m. 0.8mm does sound a bit thin but being PC is tough as nails and outlasts/lighter than factory skidplates that arent made of PC. At that thickness can cut with Wiss snips or similar.

So while I haven't had the "fix" done am I operating on ignorance is bliss & I am actually missing gold? Guess I should check up on my warranty.

Aye one thing you can sure of your missing gold, Irish Pat says, "never leave a patch til ya dug another piece"

Stopped and turned around and saw the unit lying on the ground behind me. If the detector was turned off, I would have lost it. Something to think about……

Yeah did same with clipped on Z speaker but unfortunately didn`t have Z on and walked in about another 6ks before I realised, spent day helping son dig up some weight, fortunately GPS was on and backtracked on way back to camp in arvo, was on ground underneath a low tree branch we had to snick under.

  7. GC, Auto+ does get a wee rattly but I believe it is the go ie. let the 6K have its head. Working the CT 14x9 patch hunting at present find its a good compromise re. weight/sensitivity/ground coverage. The "dusty" ML 17, am considering an op on it to turn into a Spiral wound for both the Agro and 6K. Same here the 14DD is just gathering dust too. After our flooding wet grass is up around the ears thus mainly linear detecting but next year the drought will likely return in the downunder land of crazy extremes.

  8. Steve seems there is a fair variance between some 6Ks performance, more than detectors before, or is that just because we have the internet broadcasting info...

Strick no worries, I`d buy another if I thought it`d increase the 6Ks production, this old one owes me naught.

WesD & Dig4 I found the around neck Avantree Torus set on speaker are the go.

Phrunt since the Zs shoulder speaker I`ve gone off headphones. Health bonus..... no more "tropical" ear since.

Do you folks run your 6K in auto, manual, difficult, normal? Mostly difficult and Auto+ here, appears to me MLs "Geo Sense" is a definite goer, keen to see ML develop it further. Doubt we`ll see a GPZ 8000 before a 6K replacement, which enjoy a much bigger/popular user base unless ML can cut the copper weight down in DoD coils ie. go lighter maybe Mono coils if possible like the PIs use. Think the days of users swinging anvils on anchor detectors are gone ... ahhhh but they were fun.😉

  9. I've spent a lot of time hunting side by side with a guy both of us using our 6000's.. mine had the speaker up date/fix his did not.....now his does. Do your self a favor...if you have an older 6000 that needs the speaker fix... get it fixed...you trusted minelab enough to buy their machine in the first place why not trust them to fix it...

    strick

Strick I`ve started a new thread to answer you, about ML the company we love to hate or hate to love.

ML like always fix problems with their machines, the 6K speaker problem by MLs definition applies to those who use the speaker, no problem to me don`t use the speaker. The 6K roughly computing has paid for itself every 50 hours of use for the years I`ve had it, which to this slow old codger is 2 weeks slacko detecting, thus as such a very productive detector I adopt the attitude my 6K aint broke.......... the next detector ML brings out has their "Geo Sense" is going to be a ripper.

    10" GPZ   🫡

Mighty coil, you`ll enjoy. Wack a spiral wound Mono coil of same weight on the Algo and it`ll compete. Be probably 13/14" round. Just a bit of old fella food for thought.  😉

Glad you are not having issues with yours.  Now lets look into this a little deeper.  You are a seasoned Minelab user and if you are like most of us, you try to run your machines hot to get best results.  So the extra noise vs the extra sensitivity and depth on smaller gold was ok.  I did exactly the same and thought, well that must be how it runs and to put up with the extra noise for the better results = sounds fare.  Heck, I imagine JP also felt that way.

You nailed it Gerry, perhaps ML should get a few newchums also to field test, especially for marketing a very capable turn on and go newchum detector like the 6K. No doubt us old codgers who are so conditioned to noisy detectors, are not the users  detector companies should be targeting.

However here we are in a thread urging ML to bring us a new capable gold detector, what they have consistently and reliably done since their inception last century, bagging them on an old issue that`s been totally flogged to death. 😉

  12. JP pegged it with the 6K, jittery, highly strung etc. exactly how I found it, regardless, it proved to be just like a SDC on steroids. I have found it to be a very productive detector, a brilliant patch finder in my country right out of the box. I did have its 11" coil turn spastic but that was after a few years beating it up against rocks a problem all coils have/will have, nah maybe I was lucky just like the testers, but I look forward to MLs next, but don`t leave it too long to introduce ML or you`ll have to shout me a walking stick.😉
