What do you suppose the stone is?  Tanzanite?

    Thanks!

It's a Sapphire. September birthstone. It's probably an old ring, some of the 4 others I found in this place are near 100 years old, the cocktail ring is 1950s-1970s.

I find gold rings relic detecting in farms as well, just not so often. In the last 4 years I've found 4, one was almost 300 years old. 🙂

The Manticore is treating you very well . Love the sapphire ring . Good to see you cranking up the sensitivity , there is real depth gain there , at the cost of falsing , but real targets come through the noise .

Thanks, @Chase Goldman suggested trying Enhanced Audio, and I haven't looked back. 🙂 EA allows me to crank sensitivity up, I'll go a little past silent which ends up being 28/29. The chatter isn't loud, more in the background.

Another trick to add to that increased sensitivity that @midalake suggested is using one tone with a Recovery Speed of 6. A double iron tone on a swing indicates a very good chance of a non ferrous target, and so far that has been spot on. I switch between 5 region and One Tone because they are next to each other just to evaluate more, a few swings are cheaper than a deep dig 😅

😮Wow! You've already beat me. My best appraised for $2400.....still waiting to dig one better than that. Any day now.....next hunt....just a few more swings....

The Masons have one company that makes their rings, today it's 6 grand for that particular style with that diamond, they will still make it.

It was made in the 1940s, so then it would have cost much less. I see them on eBay (i would not have done that) and some used jewelry shops for about $2k.

Returning it to the landowner probably made me a friend for life, and got me another big permission. 🙂

That was a lucky find, the other 4 came from the same place, 2 in the dry and 2 in the water. Guess I'll be going back there... 🤔 The sixth one I found last November with the Deus.

That is a pretty little ring!  Is that a tiny pearl I am seeing on the right side of the sapphire in those pictures (down in the notch on the shoulder)?

I wish, but it's just a trick of light. 🤔

The ring seems a bit crudely made from 2 rings, there are black "burn" marks on both shoulders immediately below the setting. I haven't tried to polish them out.

My wife thought she might put it on a chain or bracelet because it is so small, but we don't have any September babies in the family so it went in the collection display box.

Outstanding my friend!  That gold and sapphire ring is a real “Bobby Dazzler”. 🤩🫡

    Thanks Colonel! 🫡

Love that expression. 😅 I was dazzled when I found it in the rocks.

This is a lousy picture but it shows how tiny it is, this is my smallest finger and it barely passes the fingernail. 🫤 Regardless, it shows one of the better attributes of the Manticore, it was a 17, but very strong. I wonder if I would have found it with the Deus. 🤔

Great haul Bob, you're gonna have that machine paid for in no time. I love the sapphire!

These are what I've found in the 3 months I've had it.

Thanks Brad, and thanks for your help especially. Hey, try Enhanced Audio, you can crank up the sensitivity, if you haven't already. 🙂

I think I've already done that, the Masonic ring would cost $6,000 today alone. It got me another 60 acre field. 😎

    I hope you're doing well 🍀

Nice work 350 and more than paid for those ridiculous parking fees…maybe you could get the blue ring enlarged ? I like the idea of using the coil bumper for better vision under water…up till now I’ve not been interested in them..

    strick

    Thanks strick!

I got one on the advice of @Joe D., I respect his experience much more than he knows 😅 they're tough to get off once you wrestle it on, but it does better than the stock cover which you can leave on anyway.

    Here's the one we got:

Boom! Boom! And it paid for parking!

That crazy they start this early with the parking fee, most places here start May 1 or June 1st. And I know OC Md once paid parking starts you can park 2 blocks out from the beach and it is free but you have to get there early in the summer.

Oh well, they have beach bathrooms anyway 🤷‍♂️

It's been a great year for a novice like me so far! Gotta get in the water. I also noticed the jellyfish are starting already. 😬

Gold is Gold ! You said there were some rocks , murky water. Did you really find it beneficial with your coil bumper ? Does it alter your swing style at all. Sand build up ? Been thinking of getting one. Thanks

    Thanks KOB,

That cover does make the coil slightly easier to swing but mostly just makes it easier to see in the water. Where I was today it's clear until you start digging, and at slack tide it's useless 😅

A negative is that it's really hard to get on and off. I'm not that fussy about sand in the cover but I know some are, and while less sand gets in, it still does.

  10. I have a Deus 2 and just got a Manticore back in February, while I love the Deus 2 and have found a lions' share of stuff with it, I've been using the Manticore a lot lately, and find it's just as good on some things, superior at some, and lacks some things that the Deus 2 does well.

The thing that makes me reach for the Manticore is its sensitivity to low conductors, Tombac buttons and gold in the relic fields, and gold at the beach.

I've had the Manticore for almost 3 months now and have found 5 gold rings with it already, both in the field and at the beach. 🤔 I've found many with the Deus, but it seems more frequent with the Manticore.

I did things a little differently than the experienced gentlemen above, I set my detector up with a program called "Freestyle" which was created by a person in England for relic hunting. For the beach I use "NASA Tom", or "Dankowski" settings. Thus far both have worked well.

I tried the detector with vanilla setup and was kind of disappointed, my Deus 2 is pretty radically modified, and I've had great success with it. I had a major beach trip coming up when I got it so I wanted to "hit the ground running" with the machine.

You can probably do fine with the vanilla settings, and I do have two of SteveG's fiberglass lowers (get the "standard" size unless you're tall) on my M9 and M8 coils, just for insurance with conductivity in the water.

So far owning a top tier metal detector has never led me to regret it. 🙂 I also rarely look at the target trace.

Congrats!!!!  Unbelievable you can run the Manticore at 29. Where I am 23 would be max. You must need a backhoe to dig.😎

Thanks! One Tone is deep, and so is cranking sensitivity on all tones, but this beach has a lot of rocks near the shore in some spots. The water is brackish (river), and the sand is pretty clean. The only ferrous stuff is all the iron 😵 lots of old junk in the water.

I think my advantage today was others' unwillingness to dig in those rocky spots. I am going to need a pointier scoop!

  12. Good one Lodge!

Got a busy summer coming up, all fields are planted now, but I might do some woods hunting myself if the beaches get too trifling.

I like your idea of hair spray on the coins before they crumble, might get a small can of TSA approved hair spray and keep it on me.

    Congrats on the DBLC! 🏆

  13. Nice field hunt, stupot!

I for one really love to see the ancient finds. Once a forum member sent me a very old coin (54AD) as thanks for some advice, he said they're as common there as our "Zincolns". 🤯 It is a very treasured gift.

It's quite a slog to search a particularly large place, I often have a friend along and we will find the hotspots eventually. I can only think of one recent trip where we found next to nothing, but still came away with a few random finds.

I've been using the Manticore recently to go over previously hunted places with the Deus 2, and it is definitely the companion detector. Its low conductor response is especially useful.

  14. Outstanding job with the Deus, Jeff. 🏆

That's one of the best attributes, its comfortable weight.

I've been using the Manticore a lot for low conductor detecting (tombac and small brass), but want to get back to the Deus myself! Beach trip coming soon! 🥳

  15. Today I went out there again to make sure I got what I could.

Hunted it again for 3 hours, got some small horse tack pins and some other stuff:

Another of those small lead discs with no markings.

I got the 1860s Post office button and the small colonial button in the field in front of my house in a place I haven't been, it's a really huge field.

my house is almost a mile from where I took this photo.

Not too much trash today either.

Those who are hunting in fast moving water and surf, pinpoint mode is not going to be feasible.

What I'm impressed with is that in Surf and Seawater at least, the pinpoint function stays on rather than fading out, making it quite easy to locate a target. 🤔 Used it extensively in Myrtle Beach and on the Potomac. 🙂

The "fade out" makes me much less likely to use it while relic hunting in ATG.
