The cracks in the faceplate are something that I've been following too. I checked with engineering and they updated the part back in May to address this. So any detector that's been built since then or comes back for any reason gets a new one made out of the different material just to be safe. The failure rate isn't high but I think they're doing the right thing in replacing them to be safe.

    Hi tboykin,

The only other thing I noticed in the 2016 catalog was that the Eclipse 9" spider coil was missing. Did they just forget to add it in or is also being discontinued ??  I hope not, is a far better coil than the ol' 950.

Thanks for catching that! I let Mel know and we will update the next version of the catalog. Not quite enough room for all the coils but we will make it work in the next batch. We still produce it and will continue to do so - http://www.whiteselectronics.com/prizm-9-spider-search-coil-1966

Its a shame about the TDI Pro coming to the end of the line,i bought the very last one sold in the UK that was specially shipped over from the US,the sl version may be a very good machine but glad i went for the Pro version instead.

People have different thoughts on this. The SL is lighter and easier to pack on longer expeditions. Still plenty of Pro's out there, but every product has a life span. That's how you make room for new ones!

Got my MX Sport back today sens goes to (10 Boost) I probably don't know what I'm talking about now I see it's the SAT I should be looking at. Unfortunately returned minus the headphones and arm strap. I'm sure Mary will take care of it. They must be slamming but the turnaround was same day in on the 20th out on the 20th! Add other things when I take it out.

Sorry about this Johnny. We added some extra hands when we had the initial wave of detectors come through. I sent a message to the guys in repair, hopefully they will be more careful about what goes back to our customers. But we will take care of you.

  5. Sorry man, just trying to do what I can to make things right. We've had the current firmware out for a few months. Unless you got a time machine there's not much we can do other than honor our warranty. Lesson learned.

FWIW- the detectors with older firmware are not DOA. They work, but the engineers made improvements to the firmware and we are reprogramming any machines that don't have the current firmware for free. I've used both - and prefer the updated firmware. But a lot of folks are waiting to send their machine in until winter. It still works fine for them, your mileage may vary.

Some of the forum posts would have you think that the not only does the old firmware make the MX Sport completely unusable but also drinks all your beer, asks to borrow your truck, and spits chew on your floor.

  6. Firmware has been solid for a while now. No changes since "the fix."

We will always try to offer a wide selection of coils for our detectors. So far for the Sport we have the 10" DD, 6x10 DD, 9.5 Concentric, and have been listening to customer requests on other options they need. Hint hint.

The MXT is a solid choice, and you wouldn't go wrong with it if you don't need a waterproof machine. It's also great if you prefer old-school pots and switched instead of slim profile buttons.

Another option is we can repair your XLT. Every day I see old Coinmasters, Eagles, and other classics down in repair. The guys will take care of your machine top to bottom. Sometimes it's hard to say goodbye to an old friend, but you don't always have to!

  7. The best way to know if you have the latest firmware is the SAT. You should have 8 levels.

Thank you guys for your patience. We're listening to your feedback, and we'll always make things right with our customers. Sorry for the hiccup on the MX Sport, if you have any issues please call us at the factory for help. That's the quickest way to get assistance as our army of web people is me, and I am (unlike the legendary Steve Herschbach) a mere mortal. But I'm trying!

Great idea - I like it.

I'm waiting for the one that says things like: nugget, nugget, square nail, nugget, bullet, nugget.

I could get the bingo on that one.

How about - Large Bullet, Small Bullet, Square Nail, Chewed Up Can, Rattlesnake, Private Claim Marker, Bullet fired directly into the ground about 12" deep (AARGH), Pyrite, Hot Rock. Maybe the FREE SPACE could be black sand...

  9. We have a lot of people participating on our FB, IG, and Twitter page. Of course we always have the low-hanging fruit contests (Like, Comment, Etc) for the keyboard warriors. I won't post those on most forums because they come across as spammy to me.

Sometimes you gotta work for it. This contest is one of those. I thought it'd be good to share since I don't see too many brands doing things like this, but I do appreciate your thoughts on it. Maybe it's too complicated. I have had to explain to a few people how to post on Facebook and put ink in their printer, but then there are other folks who get a BINGO within an hour of getting their card.

Anyways- thanks for weighing in Rick, the more input the better.

  10. Hope this ok to post here, it's brand agnostic - Metal Detecting Bingo. Please submit your cards to our Facebook page -

Click this link to print one (and only one) card to get started-http://bit.ly/1XkNiLs

Each week you have seven days to get a BINGO on your card. Post "BINGO!" on our page with a picture of your card, your finds, and where you went detecting to find them. We will stamp each winner's pic with the letter for that week.

At the end of 6 rounds if you've collected all the letters to spell the mystery word, you go into the prize pool. You needed a new pinpointer or digger anyways, so why not win one while having a great time?

The game works on the honor system - your finds must be collected while metal detecting during the seven day period for each letter. Cheaters will be cursed with seven years of nothing but pull tabs and can slaw!

For 6-13 to 6-19 the letter is "W," and we'll make it easy on ya: BINGO this week is ONE LINE - vertical, horizontal, or diagonal. Next week's letter and BINGO cards will be posted on 6-20.

    GL and HH!

  11. If you guys would like a gold video on the MX Sport I can shoot it. It does fairly well on small gold close to the surface (kind of like the GMT). It's not as burly as the GPZ, but it also costs less than 10% of it. I'm waiting for the water to warm up before I take it up to the gold panning areas for some water hunting. But at the very least it'll be a nice way to cool off and give the pan a break.

The 6x10 would be a better choice for prospecting. There may be other coils in the works, and I may or may not have gone to the coast last week to help test them.

Now A&W, that's my kinda place.  I love a frosty mug of Root beer!  A frosty mug of beer ain't bad either.

I really enjoy fishing too, so if you can work that out I'm in.  What kind of fish do you catch in the Santiam?Trout, small mouth?  Will a spinning outfit work OK there?

Easy trout, depending on the time of year it has salmon and steelhead. With a Thomas Bouyant or spinner it can be a fish per cast in the right spots. If you like smallies Foster lake is 10 minutes away and has a great population (and nobody fishes for them). I don't want to de-rail your thread so if you want to PM me feel free.

P.S. - They make the root beer on-site at this A&W.

    Tom,

    Thanks,

That may just become part of my plan.  I had been thinking about a taking a tour of Whites anyway.  Just the sound of "Sweet Home" sounds inviting.  Where would you recommend a hungry miner eat while in Sweet Home?

    Terry

Heck, I'll buy you lunch at the best A&W on the west coast when you visit. They still have drive-in service and "phonebooth" ordering inside. Other options in S.H. are ALL-STAR Pizza or The Point (too ritzy for my redneck blood though). About 12 miles down the road in Lebanon you'll find more options including some micro-breweries (Conversion is my favorite).

If you're really keen on the outdoors I can show you how to catch your own lunch on the Santiam River that runs by the factory...

I finally got retired this past Friday evening.  Today is my first day of retirement of what would normally be a work day.  It feels really good too!

I have been planning for a while to go out west to do some semi serious prospecting.  I'm pretty well set on equipment (metal detectors) now but trying to narrow down where I will actually go.  I am set up to go to Oregon in the Sumpter area July 8-10th and to the GPAA veterens outing on the 23-24th of July in Fernly Nv (near Reno).  Right now that's the only definite things I have planned other than going to the crater of diamonds mine but will work that in when convenient.  I plan to take as long as a month or so for my trip.

I am thinking to stay in the NW area to prospect (Oregon, Nv, Washington State, maybe Northern California etc. But am open to any areas between NC and the NW as well.  I have recently re-joined the GPAA.  I would appreciate any suggestions of places I could check out to Nugget Shoot or maybe any clubs in the NW I might join to have access to some potential nugget producing areas.  I hope to hit a few Gem mines as well on my trip.

    Terry

There are some good areas in eastern Oregon, also down in Josephine county by Grants Pass. Both areas can be HOT in the summer. Recreational mining area in Quartzville Corridor (then maybe a side trip to see White's Electronics in Sweet Home...?)
