The video is very very good,as you are the media guy for Whites i would assume that you would have had the training to produce such a high quality video.
Nicely presented and look forward too some more.
Thanks! I used to work on movies doing sound, gave it all up to work at White's (I REALLY like the company) - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3181581/

You guys have a lot of good ideas. Mike - I grew up in Clovis, Alamogordo, and Las Cruces. Need to get down that way again sometime!

Outstanding Tom! I wish I'd sucked in my belly a bit more :-)
And if you'd just stayed a bit longer, you could have filmed an actual nugget being dug up!
I could have stuck around longer, but I'm a ramblin man. I'm glad you guys found more gold out there. I'll definitely be back there to get my own gold and maybe test a machine out.

Hello internet friends. Since you guys have been so helpful (and not torn me a new one too much) I wanted to share my video here first, before I post it for the 'hole wurl to see. It was my first time REALLY prospecting hardcore with a detector. But like most things in my life I knew it was going to be about the experience, any finds would just be gravy. It really opened my eyes and is the first of many adventures going after the yella stuff. Hopefully some of those I can meet more of the members of the forum in real life.

Anybody who is busy designing a gold detector is going to be keenly aware of where these detectors will be sold. The vast majority will be sold to "artisanal miners" - the full-time gold seekers - of this world. The vast majority of these right now are in Africa.
In addition to what Steve said, i expect it the "ultimate" would be rugged, simple to operate, and have very low battery comsumption relative to it's power.
Here are the target customers.
Yeah, the GMT hits that demo pretty squarely. I've seen a bunch of Africans using them over there because of the points you made. Maybe some of them can afford an $8k detector but I know I wouldn't spend that much on one. It's different when you do it for a living though...

What's in the ultimate gold detector? I got to see a little bit of everything on my trip from the heaviest, most complicated to the light and simple.
I'm a novice, maybe because of that I like simple. Knobs instead of menus. Light. Powerful. Long battery life. For fancy stuff like GPS I can use my phone. Iron ID would be nice.
What's your idea of the best gold detector?

Where's the part about massive layoffs? J/K, this is a solid vid. A little stiff but fits with their M.O., and cool to see what another company is doing.

I'm new to the forum but would like to know what you all are using for a metal detecting prospecting pick. I prefer a lightweight pick with a wood handle and I curious if you all like the ones with a magnet. Finally, if you have a model name, a price, and where you purchased it, I would be grateful... Thanks
They "aye's" have it. I bought this and will be using it extensively over the weekend -

Thank you guys for your patience on this. I wish I could take the credit for helping Chuck out but the truth is Pam from production, Debbie in shipping, Todd in repairs, and even internet-famous Steve Howard all pitched in.
Whatever image you have of White's, know that there are people here who care about this hobby. People that will sweat and bleed to go the extra mile for customers. I guess I'm one of them now. Never thought I'd end up in customer service but I gotta say I like it!
Later this week I'm going on a prospecting/ghost town hunting trip for about a week down in Nevada. I should be back on the forum after the 1st or 2nd of June, and I'm hoping to have a nice video of the trip soon after that.

This is the best way to start my day off. Thanks Johnny, it's stories like these that show why local dealers are so valuable. If you need help with your V3i let me know!

Just south of Lovelock along a dusty road is the Lovelock Caves. I thought it was neat to see.
That's the type of info I'm after, thanks Brian.

Chuck, we got your detector all patched up. I tested it in our notorious BLACK SAND pit to make sure it was running ok. It did fine on the 6" quarter which is tough due to the mineralization. I also did a quick air test in normal search and pinpoint- did good on a quarter out to just over 12".
We're sending a "THANK YOU" when we ship it out tomorrow for your patience.

Planning a pilgrimage and would like some suggestions on 'MUST SEE' stops along the way. I don't want you to blow up your secret spots or jump any claims, just want to hear opinions on any oddities or points of interest that may be off the beaten path (and not in this book - http://www.amazon.com/Nevada-Ghost-Towns-Mining-Camps/dp/0913814040).
Hoping to make a good video of the trip, and of course find some funny yellow rocks when we're down there. But I always enjoy the drive more than the destination. Open to suggestions for side trips and pit stops anywhere from Bend to Lovelock.

I checked it before I jumped in. 42 degrees. Not sure what that is in celsius because we measure our temperature in FREEDOM units here.

Tom, I don't know your function at Whites. I can say I think you have done a remarkable job here on the forum promoting Whites.
Thanks. I'm the "media guy." Video, social, pictures (also heavy lifting, outreach, chainsaw work, some customer service, testing machines, jumping in lakes, and 4x4 shuttle services). It's got a lot of variety, even though technically it's marketing. I have a lot to learn but giving 100% is really all you have to do to go places in life.
I think you guys will be happy with what we're planning in the future. Things are moving, there's a good flow of ideas. Change. Things are constantly changing and we're not fighting that - we're embracing it. It'll take a while for it to trickle down to you guys (the consumers). The MX Sport is just dipping our toe in the water. Wait till we jump in...

I know for a fact that White's got my MX Sport this morning at 9:39 and would you believe I don't have it back yet.haha
I don't remember for years of just having one detector
Chuck.
Got it here Chuck, I'll test it out for you after they finish the update (hopefully tomorrow?).

I really want Whites to bounce back at full speed, It is a good company and they found me Gold where other were walking over it and I was finding stuff 2000 years old when (Every) other person/brand was missing them, So I have not given up but I will be Annoyed if they stop making the MXTs.
john
We have no plans to discontinue the MXT line in the near future.

Anyway, the machine certainly has some strong points and I hope White's gets it all sorted out to everyone's satisfaction. Except mine I guess as they flat out missed the boat with me. At this point I will just wait and see what they have to offer next. I just hope for White's sake a better job is done vetting whatever it is before shipping it out.
We'll catch you at the jetty Steve, the boat hasn't even left the harbor yet.
Sounds like White's disappointed ya. The V3i wasn't a smooth launch either, if memory serves. All I can say is things are improving here and we fix our problems on our dime. Makes it a lot easier to learn from a mistake when it hurt$.
If we've lost you as a friend, know that it doesn't go both ways. I'd like to think that a long history of excellent customer service and commitment to the hobby can weather a few storms, but loyalty and legacy can only get us so far. Gotta stay sharp!
Thanks for all the feedback guys, keep it coming. The MX Sport is a helluva detector thanks in part to members of this forum.

Agreed. The MX Sport vs MXT vs MX5 video was a customer request. The customer ain't always right but we try real hard to make them happy.
I like the MXT's knobs and switches but have come to appreciate the MX Sport's "clean" interface and performance. I'm finding the more time I spend with the MXS the more I like it. I might even trade my V for a keeper, as the one I have now is semi-permanently "on loan" from engineering. But what I like isn't going to be what everyone else likes and I'm ok with that.
IMO it's bad form for one company to put out comparison videos with other brands. We got burned on that before and it was a good lesson. My vote will always be leaving the comparison videos to the consumers. Though a video can never beat a hands-on comparison at a dealer to get a feel for a machine.
We'll keep selling MXT's, they are like the A10 Warthog of metal detectors. The MX Sport is just the next generation.

I see it the other way 'round, really thankful to be working somewhere like White's. Thanks for the kind words and for watching the vidya.
