  1. Me and Bill_S have done a few comparative vids. We always get the "Did you try?" or "You don't know the secret" or "You don't know how to set it up" replies. Sometimes you just have to face the fact that a $160 Compadre will whip a $2400 detector in some areas. It doesn't mean the $2400 machine is junk... It just goes to show that there is no perfect machine.
  2. Those connectors are right out in the open! That's going to be a breeze to change coils! The head mount it meaty. I don't see that breaking off.
  3. The MXT Pro is hard to beat. Knowing the MXS is not a PI unit I was just wondering why you said you would rather buy the ATX? The ATX isn't new tech either.
  4. Lot's of VLF options if you don't want the advantages of waterproofing. The ATX would go bonkers in our parks coin and jewelry hunting. Unless you want to dig it all? In that case a Compadre would be a better choice.
  5. OH - OK. I know Whites is sticking the adapter in the box. Garrett charges $40 for theirs.
  6. There is another advantage to the pig tail. We can use any headphone of choice and waterproof the connector with a few wraps of silicone tape.
  7. Just one place where the MXS can be breached - and it has 2 seals. I'm positive Whites is moving forward with all mid to upper range waterproof designs. All they have to do is build new heads and slap on the MXS pole........ I think this is why they kept the 12 volt system - to make sure they have enough power to run them....
  8. This cord looks plenty long enough to reach the rear of the MXS. Sweet!
  9. We will agree again my friend! It might be after a few Beers...................
  10. I noticed in one of the factory videos that the battery cap has 2 seals. One inner O-ring and one outer yellow gasket. The gasket will keep the trash from entering the main sealing area where the O-ring is. A double seal system.
  11. I can tell you from experience - If you go in the water even ankle deep you can and will drop your machine. It will happen. I learned the hard way. I will suggest to tie a cord to your machine and to your belt loop for a cheap insurance policy. But if you've ever tripped, slipped or fell on a slick rock or in a hole you will appreciate a waterproof machine.
  12. With a waterproof machine you don't have to worry about rain or dust. No need to wrap a plastic bag over the display. You can even wash it with water. Plus if you ever need to do some wading in the water you won't be left out. Having a waterproof machine has advantages. Yes, it's 4 pounds. But with the battery under your cuff it will be super balanced. The Atpro is super nose heavy.
  13. I fully agree. The US companies must wake up and I do believe Whites has. The headphone jack location isn't a deal breaker for me personally. I have caught my MXTpro's headphone cord plenty of times in the woods. I have equally caught my Xterra's cord as well and it's on the left. So although they are in a better place they still will hang up on stuff. For the life of me I don't know why a lot of machines have the jacks on the right? Garrett has sold 2.5 Billion Ace's and Pro machines with the jack on the right. Do manufacturers just hire left handed engineers?
  14. I think it will come down to if you want an Amphibian machine or not? If one is looking for a coin machine only with great depth and super ID then there is another choice for that. If you want a machine that will do all things well plus swims there are a few to choose from. Then you can let the price vs options guide you. Actually it's just more fun to have a few machines. Some specific and some all arounders.
  15. From the photos I don't think the phone location will be changed. It hasn't hurt the Atpro's sales and we griped about that too in the beginning. I guess no one wants to mess with the lefties?
  16. When it's hot I hate wearing phones. I just like the open air - hearing the machine beep along. My issue is machines with a fixed volume it acts like a kid magnet 50 yards from any kid. Having volume control makes it much better. The Atpros headphone pigtail extends all the way back to the rear of the arm cuff. From the photo of Whites adapter it will too. Whites is saying that the adapter along with phones will be in the box. It won't be a perfect machine as non is. But it will be a nice all arounder!
  17. The MXS's direct competition has the phone cable on the right. The deal breaker for me would be if the MXS came out with a tiny display, zero tone options, no volume control, no mixed mode audio, tracking with lock and no backlight. Hey, I just described the MXS's competition! If you set the new marketing style to rest the MXS does have a lot of cool features....
  18. Sure looks like Whites has big plans to waterproof current and new designed machines using the MXS configuration. This explains the 12 volt system. Also it saves money for all. They just design a new head to fit on the handle! Much like how all the Xterra heads can be mixed and matched to any shaft. Check out the Whites FB page.
  19. Like Steve said - At least the coil connector is very accessible compared to the Atpro. Even though I had accessory coils for the Atpro I really didn't use them because it was a PITA to change them out. No problem with the MXS. I can overlook the phone connector position because of all it's bringing to the table.
  20. I think they have to find a stopping point or it would cost 1200$ At least they are supplying headphones now.
  21. Whites said on Facebook that the MXS will come with non waterproof phones. I'm sure as with the Atpro if you want underwater phones then you would have to buy those....
  22. I'm guessing the middle of March even though they said February. It seems they may be making some last minute tweaks from some suggestions that have been brought up? It's just a guess though. I really think the 4x6 coil should be in the line up as well. Maybe a bundle pack with any accessory coil of choice? Also throw in that new digger to sweeten the pot! I maybe asking too much? LOL. Although not a deal breaker I would like to see the ability to set the iron disc one number at a time and not in blocks. But for the price what can we really expect? I expect a machine that will work well in just about every environment.
  23. Deteknix sent MDG a machine to try out and make videos with it. I guess they didn't take it out of the box to make sure he got a good one? The video borders on the edge of being comical. I was so desperate for a new fresh water machine I was actually looking at the Deteknix pretty hard. I'm so pleased the MXS is coming out......
  24. After using 4- ATpro's off and on over the years I felt it could have used some features that some of my other machines had. I want a larger display, tone options and a backlight. I really thought Garrett would have ditched the standard mode and used that part to add more options. But they haven't. I've been waiting for somebody to give me more of what I wanted. Heck I was seriously looking at the Deteknix Quest. Now after some videos and the about to be released MXS I'm not interested in the Quest. The MXS has everything I wanted in an ATpro and tons more. Do I expect it to hit deep silver better than my Etrac or pluck Gold out of the Ocean? Heck no. I just hope it does most everything well. From what I've seen it will. On the other hand if the MXS cost $2900 then yes, It better be super at everything.
