I'd like to thank all the folks that offered up help and advice....my 6 is now working as it should! Not sure which fix actually worked but it was between the plug advice and/or the factory re-set and the 6 is working just fine now....THANKS ALL...!!!!
Only got 2 nuggies today in a new area... BUT today was without a doubt THE most beautiful day I've had all season! No smoke, no bugs, no helicopters, beautiful views, 75 degrees, and spied a hydraulic area I never knew existed that I'll investigate next season. Hoping tomorrow might be a repeat and maybe a bit more of the yellow stuff....
Thanks again everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

snow stayed above 8000 feet here
got a real soft spot in my heart for Wyo. Lived in Ft. Bridger for 2.5yrs working (Exeter Drilling Rig # 24) all over the western half. Good country but the winters are tuff.....

That time of the year again. While throwing more wood in the stove I noticed a break in the clouds and saw our first snow on the mountain...probably down to 5-5500'. days are already getting shorter so you'd best be getting out there if/when you can. Raining down low today so sidelined....

In regards to pluging in any coil, you have to do that about 3 times. Plug it in, screw on, push it in again, screw on further, third time its all the way pluged in tighten up. I have had to do this with all my coils. Might be an EMI source if not fully plugged in 🤷♂️
Thanks for that! Just checked mine and it was loose as hell, I mean REALLY loose! That alone could very well be the culprit that's been messing with my sanity.............
Almost forgot.... My initial question about early mornings might be worse as far as emi goes? Watched this vid today from Bill S. and towards the end he seems to believe something similar?

I've heard it enough now from several folks about doing a factory re-set. Have never done a re-set and I'll definitely try that next hunt and if needed, I'll have my headphones along also depending how the 6 reacts with the re-set.
Thanks a bunch everyone and I'll keep you all posted on my results next week........!!!!!!

AussieM.... I figured out the pick to close real quick....lol
Metal in my normal boots wasn't a problem if I kept the coil out front but once in awhile the boots and/or pick would get too close. Bought some metal free boots basically to have less to think about where my feet or coil are at.
Good thoughts on the shaft twisting possibly saving breaking a coil ear! I also fall down a LOT out there, especially in the steep and towards end of the day....lol
thanks again everyone........

Negative on the headphones Bishop but will try that also. I have had the machine run very smooth a few times and for the majority of the hunt and of course then I love the thing, so I don't think the machine has a problem. I believe it's my location and the 6 has also made me realize exactly how much air traffic is up there which surprised me! If using the 6 for the bulk of my hunts I guess I hit the noise cancel about 20-30 times in a 5-6hr hunt. I also made a bigger loop on the coil wire near coil to try and keep the cable a little further away from the coil when laid flat. Bought metal free boots, don't even own a cell or flat phone or pack any electrical crap around. I'll play with it some more next time out and see if I can calm down a tad and see if the 6 will calm down some.
Thanks guys...!!!!

AFON's post on the rod twisting below and my comment about emi pissing me off prompted me to ask members their thoughts on the wild 6000. I've only dug 39 nuggs so far with the 6. Haven't been able to use it lately due to having a helicopter dragging water buckets overhead daily for 2 weeks. I constantly fight emi especially with jets/planes and some trucks on hgwy down below but I've kinda gotten used to that and can force myself to deal with it although annoying. On Wed. my plan was to hunt with the 6 as the fire traffic has almost stopped. I could not get the 6 to settle down for any length of time for over an hr. so I got pissed and grabbed the Monster to finish out my day. My SDC has always run very smooth in same areas I hunt but the wild 6 seems to only settle down to a smooth threshold later on in the afternoon provided no air traffic , etc? Has anyone else noticed more erratic threshold in the early mornings compared to later in the afternoon...??? I've also tried difficult, normal, auto, manual 1, etc. and nothing seems to make things any better? It's almost to the point where using the 6 just kinda takes the "fun" outta hunting for me as I always have to wait for the thing to settle down? Next time out I'll try and just park the thing until afternoon and test my theory on emi being worse in the early mornings and see what happens? Any thoughts or ideas appreciated! I'd like to hang on to it as I've seen a little of what it can do and am impressed...but at what cost to my sanity...lol

I've had the rod twist but like Steve mentioned... it was when I was a little aggressive with the coil. The minor issue is nothing compared to how pissed I get when I can't get the machine to settle down (emi) and just enjoy my hunt. Wed. I got so mad I left the 6 on the bank and grabbed the Monster to finish out the rest of the day. Thinking about selling it.

The point to my post was to show how sensitive the 6000 is and enlighten people to the noise they will hear when they fold the coil flat against the shaft.
JP
I truly thankyou for that....!!!!! Don't use my 6 that much (39 nuggs) and almost used to dealing with the seemingly constant EMI although aggravating. The one thing that really pisses me off is EVERY time I set the 6 down with coil flat it goes nuts even though I have enough loop in cable to comfortably lay coil flat. NEVER even thought about cable to close to coil as it hasn't been a problem on my other machines but I can see where the sensitive 6 could be effected by this. I'll make for a bigger loop and see how that helps a very annoying issue. Thanks much for the tip....!!!!!

you aren't the only one sidelined by fire(s) and access closures.....a few of us also feel your pain.

Thanks for the opinions (and also Gerrys) on the difficult/normal use checking targets....I'll try it when I get back out.
Nice gold over there in the Hills.....

Today is the 50 years after Richard Nixon took USA of the Gold Standard. The price of gold has gone up about 7 to 8 times its value. The USA $ is now worth 90% of of its value back then.
Do you mean 90% LESS than back then????
My bullion 1 ozt. coins ( Maple Leafs, a couple graded old U.S. double eagles) average is $1160/coin. So in dollar #'s I surely am ahead and made money. In real sense, with inflation, worthless fiat based on "faith" US dollar all I really did with the gold is preserve some wealth. IMO....the current prices of gold just inform me of how worthless the fiat money really is at current prices?. Gold...the great hedge and damned glad for both the bullion and the wild gold...

could you please send me the GPS numbers of where you were at, just so that I don't run into you while I'm out there.
I'll do better than that. Gold is from up on Notellem creek, just north from the old bridge about 500-600yrds up is an old pine snag and acrossed the creek is a large boulder, just up on the bench above the boulder...start scratching those cracks!!!!!
-
Had to scratch my crack again today (Fri.) and bailed once it got too hot. 37 bits for 1.610g and had a blast. Smoke from the fires really bad today and looking forward to cooler, smoke free air.... Oh yeah....FINALLY got to an ounce and it only took 323 bits to get there....lmao! having fun tho and that's what it's all about imo....

good job guys....!!!!!!

"The GPX would hear saturated reddish soil pockets and the narrow pocket ones did sound like a really soft deep target. I dug a few down 4 to 6” only to have the signal disappear. After doing this a few times and even on the actual patch I was fooled, I decided to test the assumed target spot in the “DIFFICULT” Soil Timing before I dig. Wow, what a difference that made. Each time there was a target, the DIFFICULT would still hear it but when it was just ground noise, the DIFFICULT timing cleared the assumed target and response was gone. I would love to hear others observations on this as I am sure there has to be a breaking point?"
Nice gold Gerry....
The other day I decided to play with the normal/difficult setting on the 6 (always ran difficult previous) and almost thought machine ran smoother in normal but too early to tell as I haven't used it for any real length of time? I came to no conclusion one way or the other what little I tried? My trying the difficult/normal was to try and settle the machine down more. So thanks for bringing up the soil pocket info...I'll keep that in mind on future hunts with the 6 and test it more on some actual targets. I don't have a ton of time on the 6 so far but 39 gold pieces, lots of real small crap at impressive depths for the size and a 1.7g nugg at 12".
So far biggest bitch I have is is air traffic and truck traffic EMI that seems worse in the morning but eventually the machine seems to settle down....
Anybody else have opinions on the difficult/normal modes...????

those seaties are sweeties!!!!!! Gold ain't too shabby either!!!!! good job.....

This season has been measured in flakes and grams so far. Piece count way up, weight down, but tons of fun. Tomorrow I'll bust out the 6 in a new area and see if I get lucky..... Might get some more pics tomorrow if I can. Been a fun, informative, and interesting season so far and no complaints other than my self inflicted issues with the 6. Thanks to the forum and the forum members that got me squared away on that! Thanks for the comments!
get out there if you can, season winding down soon for the northern boys and girls.....
