When I say “uniform”, it does change very slowly and only a little at a time….uniformly throughout the area.  There are no major or erratic deviations in the level of mineralization so tracking works very well…and I like it. 😉

We did our testing in both manual GB and tracking. At the end all tracking GB. Did not notice much difference, but did not spend enough time at the beach to notice any subtle changes.

Not sure what mode Deus recommends at the beach. It is clear the Minelab's recommendation to use Tracking GB is correct. I suspect so for the Deus 2 as well.

I’ve used tracking twice along Cocoa Beach  Florida and it works fine.  The mineralization there is very uniform so tracking is a good option.

Actually in theory, tracking GB will work better if the mineralization changes rather than stays the same.

As where I hunt and have 50' X 50' patches of black sand that change the ground Balance often. That is the reason to "track it"

Hey SteveG, I saw these online and thought of you. I don’t know if this could be adapted somehow to the S-shaft or for a mount to the straight shaft and these are for Deus 1 and Orx, so I don’t know if they would work for the D2, but maybe they would give you some ideas.

What you posted is the actual end piece that installs into the factory rod.

But this cable is a secret, only listed on metaldetector.com so far as I can find. Only $12.90, but they want $22 shipping!!!! Sucker that I am I have one on order, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth

Tony E makes all of my custom cables. He has connectors right now. Not sure how long the one is in the picture, but he will make them as long as you want.

I got out again yesterday to the beach. I have yet to hunt in the dirt but I'm not complaining as I regularly hunt the beach now about 80% of the time. The main thing I noticed again was target and tone ID is spot on. I once again dug every target regardless of tone or ID just to verify what it was seeing in the sand. I started with the Dive program because I think I read somewhere it was deeper. I could be wrong but it didn't matter as the good targets were few and far in between. I kept the settings pretty much stock but lowered the reactivity to 1.0, upped sensitivity to 97.

Here's where the D2 is awesome (so far). Every target was what the D2 said it was going to be before I dug. On my Nox I would always dig every iron grunt in the wet sand because many of the tones cleared up and ID'd themselves after a scoop or two of sand was removed. On the D2 if it warbled an iron tone it was iron, EVERY SINGLE TIME. Every penny tone and ID came back as a penny. I hit a nickel fairly deep and it was LOUD and crisp in terms of tone and the ID never moved off of 62. The tone and ID capabilities of the machine are uncanny when compared to any other detector I have used.

The key for me is when I can get the 13" coil because I think it will beat everything else currently available at the beach. I think the D2 will be the better option for folks looking for an upgrade in performance in their current detector. If you are someone who really enjoys detecting the D2 is will fill your quiver. I liked my D1 but it sucked at the beach so I got an Equinox but the D2 is a better detector for me given what I want to do going forward. I will hopefully hit the dirt soon.

The diving program is is weakest of the beach programs.

Nice looking ring no matter what, don't let the wife see it or she will claim it for sure.

What did it ring up as on the Nox.

Good luck on your next outing.

This target has lots of water contact. So I identified by sold 360 tone.

    It rings 14..........

This is not true. The WS6 headphones are complete junk and the shaft is not usable in water.

How is that possible? If the Equinox can't detect a target, how does it know it's there, let alone know to give it a particular ID # or tone?

Or are you saying that the Equinox will lower a VDI or tone for a target it can detect, but is at the limits of its range?

    This.

I have written about this before, but will again. Everything I reference is hunting beach mode 2 in wet sand. IB 6, Recovery 6.

The Equinox in Horseshoe Mode is a very powerful discriminator and will identify nonferrous targets that register as iron Tid numbers, and sometimes no number if the signal is faint enough.

I run one or two threshold level. Which, is not really audible even with the best of phones, and am usually able to work at 22 or 23 sensitivity. By doing this it enhances deep targets.

When a deep target is heard identify the center, then start a 360 sweep around the target making sure you are passing the center of the coil over the target. Coil control is important, go slow. If possible, increase your sensitivity to look at just this target to identify better.

If at anytime that target double rings, or has a breakdown in response in one direction it is iron 100% of the time.

If the target remains consistent in response it is nonferrous. Very accurate, probably 92 percent of the time, Meaning I have about 8 targets out of a 100 that fool me.

I have no idea if this works in other modes for the Equinox, but it sure does in Beach 2.  This is how we compared the depth of the Deus 2 for targets that were past identification. The Deus 2 has issues with clean tones at depth, where the Equinox is whisper clean.

I find true threshold breaks very hard to hunt, and time is spent chasing ghost targets. This method of enhancing small bumps is more effective.

I kept my Deus 2 after all. Did the update and did lose depth. Downloaded again and it appears to be working just fine. Love the big numbers btw.

How are you able to download again? Do you not just get a message that says you have the current version?

At the VERY LEAST XP is exhibiting very poor version  configuration control by not using distinct version numbers for the new update, not describing the differences for users, and finally not providing a rollback path.

I am sure Deus will get this figured out. However people are going to be gun shy about putting an update on and not having an uninstall feature!

So don't worry about this new version, no discrimination change, no performance change, no EMI sensitivity change, nothing except chinese language and the big TID screen 🙂

Maybe the Chinese parts do not like the Chinese language addition.

I bought a ip 68 connector and cord for my pro golds. Not a big fan of wireless

VERY NICE work!!!  Like the rubber grommet on top. Do you have a rubber grommet on the bottom too?

Can you share where you got the ip68 at???  Tony said there are supply issues.

This is easily addressed with a $10 plate adapter that will let you plug your SunRays directly into the WS6 or the XP adapter cable that allows you to plug directly into the rear of the RC module.

Thanks Chase, I am going to plug in directly alright. However it will be with my Black Widows or a pair of Eisenhower's...........

Just my 2 cents worth. Your friend was a newbie, as the Deus l was not a beach machine. Does he beach hunt a lot and if so what machine ?

My friend is an accomplished beach user of the CTX and Equinox. He always called the Deus 1 his favorite dirt hunting machine. It was because of his knowledge of Deus 1 we were able to write programs better than the stock beach programs. No one is accomplished on the Deus 2 yet.

My Deus under salt conditions before my update had no problem with a 14k band 5.5 grams at 16 inches measured.

I have no doubt the Deus 2 may have the capability of pulling a 16" gold ring. Just not at the beaches we tested and not in factory programs. 😉

Just to let you know, it is a 12” coil or 9”. Not sure which you had.

Thank you for pointing out my error. I changed it to the factory Spec 11" coil...not 12" either.......

Your first comment was the machine is not salt water useable yet near the end you were amazed at how well it worked in the salt water wash

Yes it was very difficult in forceful wave wash with my leg against the detector rod trying to keep it steady from vibrating side to side. [very uncomfortable]

I was bound and determined to get this important testing done.
