So being new to the Equinox... Seems to me the audio is super important. I can hear the tone chirp among the iron grunts. Maybe no I'd #s but still the audio signal. Even if sweeping different directions still only gives a coin audible and no Id# but audible is consistent, do dig it?
Your explanation is short of description to answer fully. Can you tell us what mode your hunting in and your settings?
If I had to guess, I would say you are hunting with horseshoe mode on if you are hearing iron? -

First month beach hunting, dry, wet and water using modified Beach Sensitive and Dive (in the water). Really liking this machine and still so much to learn about it
How many of those goodies do you think were beyond the reach of a Nox or MDT?
Very nice digs!!! What is the weight and karat stamp on the bracelet? Looks heavy! -

Big hunt tomorrow, watch this space for future announcements...

Make sure you take the Nox after to clean up!!!! 😂 Good luck tomorrow!!!

1. Center-mount coils. No more rear mount coils
2.Detector rod: Coil wire and rod needs 6 more inches, and make it thinner. OR, Make it so the machine is adaptable to an after market rod.
3 Better ID at depth and Tones.

You know, I’ll have to say I didn’t check for TID. So tone. It would be iffy at best until you took off some sand. But that’s how we both hunt…

So I was looking for some comparison on what others are seeing and how we tested the Nox and D2.
Kind of the same here, the D2 and Nox could both here things, but no ID on really deep stuff. We had trouble with clean tones on the D2. Maybe updates will clear this or some advanced settings?
Will see how this shakes out more.

The Anderson shaft has tons of length, and even with it fairly extended there’s still over a foot of lower shaft engaged into the upper shaft. The Anderson lower shaft mounts to the coil with rubber spacer washers on both sides and I had to install that Deus tensioning bushing to center the coil bolt on that side.
I can't tell from your pics, are there holes in the Anderson upper for those spring clips that hold a lower rod? Thanks

I am a 5' 2" woman and am convinced all these machines are designed for 7' tall men built like linebackers.
Welcome to the other end of the spectrum! 😁
I can tell you at 6'4 the Equinox was not long enough for me. So we are even.😎
Companies should make solid detector rods that have full adjustments for everyone.
Detector companies should never make a coil with the coil mount at the rear of the coil.

These werent methodical tests.... drop a ring in a 14" hole and see what happens. Cliff is also in the learning process..... but it helps hes a VERY good hunter and no matter the machine he knows a weak target others might miss.

Did either machine TID at that 14" depth, or was this an " it could be heard" at that depth?

Any Comparison So Far?
I have moderate black sand and have had both the MDT and D2 on this beach. But not at the same time together.
First my Black sand: Moderate enough to where it would affect both my Sovereign GT in pinpoint mode and Equinox to where I would have to back them down in sensitivity.
In my opinion, I think the MDT and D2 were similar in performance. Both machines had functions that allowed them to mitigate the effect of black sand and allow good performance of the detector. I think it would be hard to get a clear winner. I also think performance of each detector would be more than acceptable and I don't think one machine would out TID the other in black sand. HH

The Deus 2 is not a simple machine... at least for me as I feel like a pilot going through their pre flight check list every time I fire it up. I'm sure it will become routine soon. A few finds from 2 different spots. Two hunts total.
Nice digs for sure!!! I am surprised there are not more coins mixed in your batch? That is is whole lot of sizeable nonferrous targets you found!

No these are salt water beaches. I can usually dig out a target pretty fast with a big shovel, so I don't mind digging the iron.
OK, was thinking the iron didn't look crusty enough to come out of salt water.

I’m guessing you might not want it as a backup machine because of price and staying on top of the learning curve. I like new machines but I’m not certain it will out perform the MDT in the water and the MDT I’ve learned and find it simple like the Xcal.
I don't want the Deus 2 [right now] for several reasons:
1. The rod is unhuntable in my location and a good replacement has not been made yet.
2. The rear mount coil is a POS in wave wash.
3. Cost
4. My testing, now from earlier software versions was clear that the D2 could only maybe match par with the Equinox in Horseshoe mode on the wet beach. Once the D2 lost TID on a target it was very difficult to get a 360 clean tone on nonferrous for idenification and recovery.
5. Learning curves are no bother to me, but I would like to see a finished product at some point.
That only leaves one location left on my beach where I would want to use the D2, active Wave Wash.I am on the sidelines waiting for the Legend to get into the hands of an experienced salt hunter to get a review of the Legend VS Equinox in active salt wave wash. If it turns out the Legend can do better than the Equinox in wave wash that will be my choice.
I am not so sure the Deus 2 can outperform MDT in moving salt water, I do know the D2 can beat the Equinox.
My time spent testing the MDT showed it was the best detector I had tested to date in moving salt. Too bad the coil wire was not longer, and the offset coil and price were other factors I passed on the MDT.HH to you Dew......

Any way to verify if thats possible? That would be a nice advantage!👍👍
Only way to verify, would be to see the maximum depth where you are running and compare that to the machines known ability.

Beach hunt # 31 was a two-beach hunt. I had a friend offer up a small beach that he hunts and was interested to see if there was anything deeper to find. Some silver jewelry and a gold ring were found previously by him. I did a short hunt there for about 2 hours and did not score any silver coins. This beach may be too new, or things are just too deep. I hit enough coins for the short time detecting with the deepest being a memorial cent at 17”. So, maybe the silver layer is out of reach or just not there. To not waste the day, I headed to my silver beach which was about ½ hour from this first beach. I hunted that for about 5 ½ hours and managed 3 silver dimes. The beach looked good with a lot of bigger rocks exposed, but I also saw bucket loader tracks, so it was pushed around a lot. I don’t know about anyone else, but I never have much luck when they level up the beach mechanically. It wasn’t my most productive beach day, but it was still nice to get out.
Oh my gosh, I could not hack digging that much Iron anymore. Is this a freshwater beach?

BOOM, nice job! When are you going to buy a Deus 2 so I know what breaks on it????

Any suggestions, advice or thoughts, especially why I could get good target responses after reburying the coins?
2 hours ago, JCR said:If your mineralization is Iron based, disturbing the soil weakens the localized oxidation halo that can mask the target's signal. That is my speculation anyway.
This would be a great question for Tom Dankowski. Bet he would have an answer.

This is why someone should buy my Equinox 800 on the classified forum. It is a verified gold killer....... and a real Minelab machine!

This tiny gold band (.61 grams) rings up at "39" ID# above ground, so if you are after micro gold with the Deus 2, it is probably a good idea to dig targets that register in the 30's.
Best of luck to you fellow turf warriors going for the gold. Battling turf trash isn't easy!
Excellent work!
It would be nice to see some deep targets found with your Equinox, then compared to the Deus 2. Seems like you are getting proficient with both.

No idea on the buried response?
I applaud you for doing wild testing with two detectors. It is the only way to decide which machine is better!

I am not a dirt hunter and others will comment on your settings. But right away I would lower recovery speed to 5. Keep you coil swing slow. 17 is not much for sensitivity, but best to start low, to let the machine teach you what to listen for.
One tip though> You can usually bump the sensitivity up one or two points just to look at a particular target better!
Now these targets that sound good but do not TID, should be dug.
Different operating modes [frequencies] on the Equinox will have different results.
However, in Beach 2 for example. With the horseshoe mode on I can hear the faintest of targets. If sweeping around the target produces a double ring or a breakdown of detection in any one direction the target is iron 100% of the time.
If a target is nonferrous, it will give the same unbroken tone 360 degrees around the target. You will have a few pieces of deep iron fool you, but very few. This is the way to identify targets that do not TID.
But I have no idea if this works in Park or Field modes. Experimenting on a deep buried dime or quarter will be able to show you this, also a deep buried nail to show a double ring or detection breakdown.
I would get it down there at the edge of your ability to hear the target with horseshoe mode on.
The Equinox has a great ability to identify deep nonferrous targets that do not TID anymore. Almost all of these targets would not even been heard at all, working with the horseshoe mode off. HH
