    Wow, congrats!
I never found a gold coin and probably never will ๐Ÿ˜…

    How's the 13" feeling?

Thanks, Sinclair! I have to say I really like the 13" coil. Even though I've only had it out one time in a local park, I have to say it swings really well and hit all the targets that the 11" does and maybe just a little deeper, but I wasn't testing depth. All in all, I couldn't be happier with it, even without the gold coin!ย ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Well there ya go, Cap. ๐Ÿ† Congratulations on a great find.

Opportunity and hunches often produce the best results.

So what are your initial impressions on the 13"?

    Thanks, F350!

I love the 13x11" coil, thank you for recommending it! It doesn't feel like it is much more weight than the 11" coil and it definitely hits the goods!ย ๐Ÿ˜‰

Correct, it also says 1/10 oz on the coin which helps avoid having to do the math, too.ย  Not being good at math, I cheated and that's how I came up with 0.1 oz in my previous post.ย ย

That would be great, but it looks from the photos to be gold plated brass or some other low value base metal.ย  Also, the 87 TID might indicate copper or brass base, as well. Let's see what CPT comes up with.ย  Nevertheless, gold coin pendant is a great find.

I tried checking the bezel markings again, but it's unclear what they are. It could be 14K, but I'm unsure at this time. So until I have confirmation on the the bezel, I'm going to say gold plated, perhaps.ย ๐Ÿค”

The total weight is 3.83 grams.

  4. Like some other folks on the DP Forum, I got a 13x11" D2 coil from Santa! Woohoo!ย ๐ŸŽ…

Around noon yesterday, I was working around the house trying to get Christmas put away when my wife texted me and asked if I was going out detecting. What??? I said no, I had too much to do but she said I should go out while the weather was nice. Well that never happens so I just grabbed my new 13" coil and out the door I went!

I decided to just hit my nearby practice park to see what the new coil could do. As expected, the ground was frozen solid in most areas, specially on the hills where people go sledding, but I slogged on finding quite a few coins, which is a little unusual now that the park which was built in the 1980s is a metal detecting hot-spot.ย

At one point I hit a nice sounding 87 and thought it must be a bottle cap, but since I was digging all solid signals to see if there was any difference in sounds, I dug down about 4 to 5 inches and in the bottom of the hole was... no, surely that's not real, I thought, it's probably a gold foil knock-off or something, so I chucked it in the pouch with the other coins and moved on. I did manage to find a stainless steel ring and a key, but that was about it.

When I got home, I dumped the finds out to sort through them and the "gold coin" mounted in a bezel popped out on top of the coin pile. Upon further examination, I found the .999 Fine AU on the back with a rather chewed up Panda. OMG, it is a Gold Coin! My first Gold Coin!!!

I just sat there dumbfounded and could not move for what seemed like hours, but it was probably only minutes until my wife got home and asked if I went out detecting. Then I showed her the coin and she verified that it was indeed a Gold Coin! I'm still a little dumbfounded. I certainly did not expect to find a gold coin!

Moral of the story... check everything and when your wife (or significant other) tells you to got detecting... Just go!ย ๐Ÿ˜Ž

So awhile back i began using theย Bone Conduction Headphonesย at a couple of my sites where I wanted to be able to hearย everythingย that is going on around me.Typically I would just cover one (my bad ear) with the WSA XL 2's but that was inhibiting my signal and tones processing and I was always knocking them off of my noggin in the brush.I quickly got to liking the bone phones a lot but couldn't stand being tethered to my detector so i decided to put my d1 armband (that I never used)ย to good use and solved the problem.I just put the excess cord under my shirt or jacket because I spend a good deal of my time beating and sometimes crawling the brush. It took a little getting use to changing the programs and settings and since I rarely use the pinpoint function there wasn't any real handicaps.

Also thanks for the tip on the Nomad shovel CPT GhostLight and JCR. I'm loving that thing it's long and strong and lite as a feather! I wasn't to crazy about the red color so I gave it a shot of camo.

Nice, Doc, I'm glad you like it! I left mine painted red so I can find it after I walk off and forget it!ย ๐Ÿ˜

The current D2 coil at 8 3/4" is not small enough??ย  The Detector with the best separation values in the world.ย  ย Not knowing any better, I might think it was April 1st.ย  ย Or do they need to make a 3" coil?ย ย

I'm not laughing at you, but at the 3" coil. I agree with you about best separation in a 9" coil.ย ๐Ÿ˜‰

I also agree with @Doc Bachย that it's more about the shape. I think the 11", 11"x13", 9" and 9"x6" coils would cover all the bases for me.ย ๐Ÿ˜

@midalake, this is one of the ways to reduce falsing, I've done this as well, lowering Frequency Max from 40khz to 24khz in the General program (and maybe in Beach Sensitive). Thanks Lodge for reminding me!

I really hope you like that coil, recommending someone having to pay $400 for a coil is a bit of a nervy thing ๐Ÿ˜… But so far so good...

Well Santa brought me an 11x13" so I get to start testing that when the weather cooperates a bit more. I'm really looking forward to it!ย ๐Ÿ˜‰
