I find the audio filter should be used with caution.

Higher levels 3-5 take the iron buzz out of the deep targets, let's say ground saturation at depth.

Also I have been told higher levels can offer advantages when hunting in the surf.

The downside is higher levels can soften iron signals and you may be fooled into thinking they are good targets. Also shallow targets can sound a little wooly.

Lower levels 0-2 can give better iron identification, as they are "pure" unfiltered signals.ย

Lower levels are best for iron contaminated sites, I find my go-to settings are mostly 0-1 for UK inland.

But I have some deep pasture and will be testing higher levels once the grass is cut.

I would love to hear your thoughts.

    Hope this helps

Thank you for this Sir! Very nice information. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Just come back from the high mineralized area, I wanted to show that audio filter feature is really important to go deeper and have a better signal also in mineralized soils. I had a weak one way signal with audio filter 0 and a 100% better signal with audio filter 5.ย

Just received my Steve's Detector Rods Deus 2 shaft and all I can say is WOW, I love it! It's light and tight and even better than I imagined. Excellent work, @steveg !ย This allowed me to complete my 2 from 1 conversion and now I have full D2 and WS6 Master rigs. The force is strong with SteveG!ย ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Yes! Steve's Rods are simply amazing quality and very well thought out. I was in on the first wave and was blown away at the workmanship. I have the antenna wire through the shaft and it works perfect. I did the dual setup right away with mine.

    Cheers and HH!

The GTA / GTAX machines just seem to keep going... unless the keypad goes bad.... or the machine takes a dunk in water... If it seem like it doesn't work.... you pop the control box apart... a tiny dab of deoxit here and there on the contacts... and its brandy new again... even if you forget the batteries... and they spode ( guilty )... clean er up... get a new set of battery holders... and you're huntin... These are neat little machines... the don't weigh a ton... and they're so easy to use... to this day... stillย  a great starter detector....ย  ย

The only thing is the GTAX requires 8 batteries compared to the new detectors and they lasted half as long in the field. The 550 still works great though and was ahead of it's time back in the day.

Went to a small hidden area of beach on a freshwater lake that seems to be the landing point of a lot of floating flotsam.

I might as well have walked into Chernobyl with a Geiger counter! 100% chatter every square inch. 99.999% melted alumi-nuggets. I have never seen something quite so bad. I tried every program, sensitivity way down, sniper programs, custom sonar program from Gary, anything and everything I could to tune the machine down, but no stopping the chatter. No houses or cell tower or EMI anywhere near here, just that much junk in the sand. Worst part is every signal was a good coin signal too. All in the high tones and/or numbers, 80's and 90's. Everything I dug was melted aluminum from pea size to palm sized.

Pulled one zinc penny out of the roar before I gave up and left after about 20 minutes. Just couldn't take the noise and digging 100% aluminum. I've been at this over 30 years and have never hit anything like this. I suppose it's the product of years of bonfires here and then whatever was burnt on any other beach and drifted in to this cove and got stuck in the sand.

I have found similar beach sites that were Beer party Heaven Bonfire spots with melted blobs of melted beer cans everywhere.

It's a Predator Raptor "D" handle. 11" blade gets you to the finds fast. ๐Ÿ™‚ I also have their T handle Barracuda which only digs 6". Far less intimidating. ๐Ÿ˜€

They're very tough shovels and cut through roots like a hot knife through butter.ย

I have been using the Predator tools Raptor for years and it's the best shovel for New England woods.ย ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

    Nice Hunt!!

I'm almost completely a field user over a tester. ๐Ÿ™‚ I can tell you that I've used general with some mods and find it to be very accurate even at depth. My soil here is almost always moist and non-mineralized. It may get drier by August, sometimes we get July droughts, but the last two years we've got a lot of rain.

From reading the instructions and marketing hype regarding every new detector, it feels to me that if anything XP understates the abilities of its machines, so I'm inclined to trust how the instruction manual reads. What I posted was from XP mode descriptions.

I can also say that Relic and some of the other fancy programs like Deep HC work well, but eat battery, and are very specific. My mistake at first was diving right into those thinking it would give me some advantage ๐Ÿคช It most certainly did not.

With my Equinox I started out in 50 tones in field, and ultimately ended up preferring 5 tones in Park 1, just an analogy.

With the Deus I'm trying the different tone modes, there are quite a few, and right now I like square/full tones. That may change.

It's all about "trigger time", and finding what works best for you. If you're a "tester" with a moist test garden and a dry one, you'll fast track to your preference. ๐Ÿ™‚

Great reply! Gary Blackwell stated in one of his videos that the "General" program is best for wetter ground,

That's an interesting thought then: Can the waveguide be used with the WS6 Master for shallow water hunting? ๐Ÿค”

There are no physical connections, just proximity to an internal transmitter antenna. ๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿค”

Don't know about the WS6 Master. The antenna is just an insulated wire. It has been demonstrated that using any wire at all accomplishes the same thing. I happen to like the design of the factory clips instead of Duct Tape.

I think Gigmaster shows how to cut that antenna wire down to a shorter length and reuse the clip in one of his videos.

Thank you! I will look that up. I already noticed you can pull the end with the slots right off. You should be able to slide it back on to a cut down wire.

    Thank you again.
