"Compared to its previous version, Bluetooth 5 transfers data twice as fast and has a range that’s four times larger than Bluetooth 4.2. Bluetooth 5 data transferring speeds max out at 2Mbps. As for latency, the worst you can get is 40 milliseconds. Under ideal conditions, the latency rates drop to 20 milliseconds."

Woohooo!!! Another ship arrives 12/10, Saturday with Minelab equipment. This one only had about 1/3 the weight of Minelab items the last ship carried. Also this shipment is described as, "METAL DETECTION EQUIPMENT AND ACCESSORIES" not Metal Detectors and the shipment is headed for Oakland, CA.
Still, what was in Friday's detector shipment? Manticores or ?????

I know the feeling, longbow62. Sooner or later our Manticores are going to show up at our doors. I hope!!

Merrill of Detecting NYC presents a little interesting info on Minelab and its relationship with Parent Codan. Codan stock has been in the tank lately and their money maker, Minelab, may be releasing the Manticore and the Nox 700 and 900 so close together to try and spur a much needed sales and profit boost. You be the judge.

Did you look at the targets from 90 degrees to see if you got the same TT view and TID? I thought I read somewhere that the tabs look different from different angles.

I agree, but want to point out how chatty the Manticore was. Not quite sure one could hunt there. I was also surprised to hear the sensitivity was only 23!!!!!
One trick experienced hunters do on deep targets is to raise the sensitivity a point or two just to look at that one target. In this case the Manticore has LOTS of power left as compared to the D2. This is a very interesting point.Calabash digger has a new video where he discusses the chattiness of the Manticore and he turns down the sensitivity from 23 to 21 which quiets it down. Over on NASA-Tom's forum he says to run a long Noise Cancel after moving sensitivity up a couple points into the chatty area and that will quiet it down a bit.

That's way to wide of a range to consider notching them out. I guess that means digging all the square tabs.
Thanks, strick.

Yep. I asked my dealer Saturday and got basically the same reply:
Wow!! Word for word that is exactly how my message read!

I asked my dealer about the Minelab shipment from Friday but he didn't have any other info. He's still saying maybe before Christmas but possibly after year end. I'm hoping I'll get an email from him in the next couple days saying my Manticore has been shipped to me.

You're mixing up the BT standard platform (5.3) with the BT codec. Without the APTX-LL codec or APTX Adaptive codec (both less than 50ms) and associated proprietary Qualcomm chipset, you are stuck with SBC codec's 200ms latency even if the hardware/firmware is rocking BT 5.3. Latency also has nothing to do with the distance between the receiver and the transmitter, it has to do with how fast the digital audio can be encoded and decoded.
Chase, you obviously have looked into this in much more depth than I have. What I have read says BT 5.3 can have as low as 6ms latency. Maybe the writer just doesn't know what he is saying. Anyway, I'll defer to your, and others here, greater understanding of the different Bluetooth platforms.
Dewcon4414, strick tried to pair the NOX headphones with the Manticore and couldn't get them to pair.

There is some good information on the Manticore over there. I've pasted some settings and suggestions mentioned there into a text file for quick reference. That forum is just so hard to read, though, even on the proper settings.

Manticore and Equinox 900 did well on all of Iffy’s separation tests in those two videos.
Jeff, to me being able to understand what is likely under the coil is more important than absolute depth. The major detectors are so close on depth I find it unproductive to worry about which will go deeper in this circumstance or that circumstance. Even though I don't have a Manticore yet, I really like the clarity of the screen, the TT feature and the ease of menu navigation. But, as far as Minelab's marketing goes, I would like to fire the entire department.

Strick, did those square tabs all come in at the same TID or were they all over the place?
Nice hunt regardless!

Thanks, Chase. I think today's Bluetooth tech is faster than many are aware. APTx aim is 40ms or less. Bluetooth LE's aim is 30ms or less. Bluetooth 5.3 at less than 10 feet is supposed to be about the same latency as APTx depending upon the receiving device. And, there is also the option to go with wired to a belt clip like the Garrett Zlynk for about $150. Plus all the options you just listed! The options abound!

Sorry, but that's not the way it works.
You haven't seen the improvements in the ground radar devices lately.

Suit yourself. It's your money.
I'm not married to anything. But I do know I won't be using the ML-105s in next summer's heat.

Pretty impressive the Manticore can confirm 3 different targets on the coil sweep. Clearly the Manticore won that test.
The visual aid of TT will definitely help me. Others seem more attuned to hearing the tones. Everyone is different in how they perceive what a detector is telling them.

Detector manufacturers don't want to create the ultimate metal detector. They want to create a detector that is just good enough to be a little better than the last guy - or the last iteration. That way they can hold back on any breakthrough technology and release it a little bit at a time to keep detectorists buying the next 'best detector' brought to market.

I wouldn't call that slim pickings. There's gold in them finds!!

That's not a low latency transmitter. Are you using low latency headphones? If you are going to pass on the supplied Manticore phones, highly recommend you use an APTX low latency transmitter and APTX low latency phones, otherwise the lag will make it difficult to line up and pinpoint your targets.
No, it isn't. I don't know if my ears can even tell a low latency set of phones from those that aren't.

Maybe I won't post any more "vs" videos here even from those vid posters who most consider unbiased. It just creates too much controversy. Everyone can find those comparison videos on Youtube and draw their own conclusions.

Also, interesting to see the Deus II users opinions. Thanks.
And here is Calabash Digger's experience with the two machines at the beach on a 15 inch nickle.
-
I'll probably use one of these (or a similar) plugin transmitter on my Manticore to be able to use the headphones I prefer. You just can't wear regular headphones in the Texas summer heat. Not an affiliate link.

Here is an interesting test of the Manticore vs the Deus II on a gold bar and a gold ring masked by two nails. Which machine is better at sniffing out the gold?

I'll probably wind up going with the Garrett z-lynk too, Steve. It's not that expensive and you can use any wired headphones you like with the adapter.
It's too bad Minelab screwed us over with another proprietary wireless system.
