  1. New equinox is much deeper in the new depth setting vs tones just like the excals are in all metal vs disc. Its a huge difference between the 600/800 vs the 700/900 on the beach at least. Manticore has a mode like that too. Im not sure a lot of people prefer that to tones though...at least I don't see it mentioned a lot on the forums. Not sure why.
  2. Another update on the new equinox on the beach... I've been digging up pull tabs, bottle tops, can slaw, etc. from a TDI of around 8 all the way to 60. Found a gold chain laying on the sand, barely detectable and getting a negative number and grunt because of a rusty pendant on it
  3. I can't figure Fisher out. High level, the CZ line is going down or dead. The tech is old and outdated. I'm not sure what they are doing with the AQ. Their website hasn't been updated in years. On the low end, I think bounty hunter is profitable and making them a lot of $. Amazon says 3k+ bounty hunter tracker IVs sold in last month alone. But fisher needs to do something. They should have improved the CZ line when minelab came out with the CTX then equinox but they did nothing. CZ's were awesome. I had the CZ21. Beast of the machine that was just as good as my Excal and was indestructible...heavy too
  4. Continuation of my thoughts after really being able to use it...I've now got about 12-15hrs on the 700. On the wetsand, I have to stay in Beach 2. Beach 1 is unstable. On the drysand, I've been hunting in Beach 1 and it works well. I have done a few tests and can't find a depth difference between beach 1 and 2 on my beaches. I can also crank up the sens a bit more in beach 2 because its more quiet...I need to do more tests on this though but ive yet to find a target that beach 2 couldn't recognize that beach 1 found. I wonder if we will see an update on the beach 1 mode... The dP, depth audio tone is a huge improvement on the beach. It gives more depth and information and I can crank the sensitivity up 1-3 numbers vs the beep tones. I do feel like I am finding targets right now that I would have missed with my 600. The amount of deep or on the edge targets I am finding seems more than I typically would find with my 600. Maybe I am used to hunting in this type of mode from my CZ21/Excal days but its a very welcome change and is making a big difference in the way I hunt. At this point my general feeling is that if you are a beach detector, its worth upgrading your older 600/800 to the next gen. Build quality is better but imo its not worth upgrading for that little stuff, its the dP feature that is a huge difference on the beach. If you wouldn't like that feature, its probably worth keeping your old machine. Nox 600/800 should have just included it. This is the machine they should have been. Will update again once I do some more beach 1 vs beach 2 tests...
  5. Something interesting I read is that iron bias setting was changed. So the new '0' might actually be like -1 (or something) and a 1 or 2 might be more similar to the old '0'. If that were the case, increasing the iron bias could potentially lessen falsing...it will also lower depth. I will play around...
  6. First long hunt with the 700 on the beach and its definitely behaving differently than the 600... On the wetsand, I need to be in Beach 2 to get sens of 20. Beach 1 falses a lot. On the drysand, I can hunt Beach 1 or crank up the sens on Beach 2. I did not notice a difference in falsing on 5 tone vs dP. I did not find any targets that Beach 1 picked up and Beach 2 would not and vice versa. Same with 5 tone vs dP. Though I do feel that I only found some targets on the edge because of dP. Still lots to figure out between the settings but on the 600, it was basically beach 1 all of the time. This is not the case so far with the 700...Its almost like the 700 is behaving the way the 600 was intended (beach 1 on the dry and 2 on the wet/water)
  7. Oh man you all are scaring me. I will test out over the next week and see how it responds on my beaches.
  8. I have yet to take the machine out other than my tests so I am not sure how it will perform...I will update when Ive got 20 or so hrs on it. Though my beaches have low emi so I may not notice.
  9. Absolutely. The new version supposedly handles EMI better too so that could have an effect. I think any changes to the settings between the versions could change it a lot.
  10. The beach test. I buried a quarter and put both machines on beach 1 and bumped the sens to 22. Nox600 (5 tone): 10" - Solid target with ID 12" - Nothing. Nox700 (5 tone): 10" - Solid target with ID 12" - Solid target with ID 14" - Light beep no id. I wouldn't hit this. Nox700 (dP): 10" - Solid target with ID 12" - Solid target with ID 14" - Solid target with ID 15" - Solid target with ID I didn't go further but as you can see for a buried recent drop, dP is deepest. The craziest part was seeing the nox 600 just not hit the 12" target at all but the 700 smacking it no problem. Next up for me is testing the nox700 modes, sens, etc. on the beach as I detect.
  11. I've got both machines so going to post comparisons as I get to try them out. At this point I've only done air tests I wont do real testing until tomorrow but here are my initial thoughts... Build - Machines look exactly the same. Shaft is much better on the 700. Definitely much improved. It is a few ounces lighter but nothing I can notice when I hold each machine. Interface - Switching through menus feels nearly the same as well. I was able to easily navigate the menus as I was used to the 600. Cost - I actually paid more for my 600 when I bought it five years ago as no dealers were offering discounts when it first came out ($650 vs $620) Now the interesting part...power, depth, tones... I've only done air tests I will test at the beach tomorrow but there is a difference. I live at the beach so my soil is a sand/dirt mix. Very little EMI unless I am near a powerline or something. I did this test in my backyard where there are no lines or anything else in the ground. Closest house or anything is about 1/2 acre away. Settings for the air test - 20 Sensitivity, 0 Iron bias, 2 Recovery speed (this is 4 on the 800). These are the settings I hunt with. The only thing I ever change is my sensitivity which hovers from 19-23. Comparison: Nox 600 in 5 tones: Quarter: 10" 10k Ring: 12.5" Nox 700 in 5 tones and All tones: Quarter: 11.5" 10k Ring: 13" Nox 700 in dP tone: Quarter: 13" 10k Ring: 15" As you can see from my air test, there is definitely more power in the new gen equinox. In the same tone and settings its slightly deeper. Not sure that will translate to much in real world settings. In the dP tone, its significantly deeper and more sensitive. This is how I used to hunt with my Excal and CZ21. Its very exciting for the beach. I also did test a penny, wheat penny, silver ring, silver nickel, and nickel with similar results in the depth improvement. How will that translate in the ground? Well I haven't tested it yet but I assume its going to translate to significantly more depth when using the dP setting. I think if you are a hunter that prefers the 'beep' tones you aren't going to notice much of an upgrade. If you are like me and looking for depth and prefer the dP type tone, I think this machine might add 1+ inches and really help find whispers when finding deeper targets.
  12. Yep. I can't tell you how many people told me I 'needed' to get the 800...even to this day. Like no, the 600 is exactly what I need...Now I just purchased the 700 and will probably get the same responses. This post should probably just be pinned.
  13. I did see the salt issues were worked out in an update and many at first were user error but then as I read more I found some errors with the multifrequency modes in general. I tended to find these scattered in all of the forums the more I searched... Here was one example from Nasa Tom on 3/31:
  14. Thanks for all of the input. I ended up getting a Nox700 today for just over $600 total. I did a ton of research on these machines and in the end thought this made the most sense for me. The Legend looks awesome and I really wanted to try it out but I was a bit nervous since I am a beach only detector and it seems like they are still working out some beach kinks. Looks great and I might still pick it up at some point just for fun. I love that they seem to be updating it and working to make it a great machine. If it was my first multifrequency, I probably would have went legend hands down. I decided against the nox 900 for the same reasons I went with the 600 vs 800. The 700+900 have the same internals, its just settings that are different. I don't need a gold mode. I hunt 0 Iron bias only, etc. Money was a big factor here too. Cant see the extra $400 value for me at all. I'd rather just get a nox 700 + legend at that point for almost the same price. I looked at the Deus 2. It looks awesome. It looks light. I just didn't want to pay for it. It would be over 2x what I paid for the 700. Manticore looks great as well. Again just way above what I'm willing to spend. I just don't think its going to add much value over the $600 detector I just bought.
  15. Maybe I need to look into the D2 a bit more...darn it I don't want to spend more money lol
