Hello again F350. Followed your advice and got myself a new pair of Creative SoundBlaster Jam V2 headphones. They are so light, love it. Will need to wrap headband as you said - they are quite hard. This is embarrassing for me to ask you. I am at a loss as to how to pair them with my EQ800 which are already paired to Minelab ML80 phones. Before I ask any forum questions, I search and search, but can't find specific instructions to help me on this. Hoping that this won't waste your time too much. First - do I need to unpair the ML80 phones by using Factory reset? Then, to pair the new CSB phones: turn on Eq800 then turn on Creative phones and then press wireless button on side of Eq and then? I must be driving you mad, I'm sorry. p.s. the Creative headphone manual really stinks. Many thanks if you are going to reply. Jane

Hello F350. Great to find your post! I need some help please in understanding how to use an AfterShokz bone conduction headphone with the Eq.800. Unfortunately, I find that over-the-ear phones make my ears too hot, especially in summer and I do not like phones that stick in my ears. The manual (pg 54) really confuses me and so my questions are: 1. Do I also need to set up and use the WM08 Wireless Audio Module (pg55) with the Bluetooth bone earphones? OR 2. Do the bone earphones connect directly to the EQ800? (That’s going to be fun to figure out). 3. The manual says, “Bluetooth technology has a high audio latency of 100 ms. This can make it difficult to visualize the exact position of a buried target if you are detecting with a fast swing”. (Not good – I need all the help that I can get)! 4. Will the audio be loud enough for beach detecting? Many thanks for your time, Jane

Hi Redneck. I have the same one as you. Here are photos of what I attached to it when I need to use it with a longer rod. It is a Leki walking pole which I cut and then screwed into a yellow ‘socket’ which in turn I screwed into the rod adaptor – latter supplied in the box from Quest. The rod is light and very easy to take off. Might come in useful if I stub my toe badly! Would be nice to know your thoughts with the machine when you use it. Jane

Hi Redneck, Yes, I have one but have only used it in freshwater - local streams. Is wonderful to be able to poke around with it under the rocks. Found some stuff, but in spring intend to try it out extensively at the beach. I made my own rod for it by cutting a hiking pole to length, drilling a hole through it near the bottom so that I could attach the rod to the screw portion on the top of the scuba. Works very well. I think this would be great for snorkeling in shallow water. Jane

Hey there Digs. I am also a newbee from NY, just joined. First time I have EVER joined a forum and I am so enjoying this one. People are very welcoming and I feel that I am in a 'safe' spot, reading info and tips from great detectorists who are willing to share their expertise and who don't think that we are 'ignorant' at all. I have been detecting for years and am STILL scrabbling around in the dirt and not really knowing what I am doing. This forum has taught me already that it is CRITICAL to learn how your machine works and tones, tones, tones! Good luck and enjoy your hobby.

Thanks Chase, appreciate it. I do know that Breeze Airways has 'Metal Detector' on their restricted item list! In Florida they have some places that rent out detectors. Would that be worth trying? Many thanks.

Hello - I have a Minelab Eq800 which uses a sealed lithium-ion battery. As far as I know, having checked TSA and FAA websites, a Li-ion battery cannot exceed 100 watts if you are travelling by plane. Q: can you please tell me how many watts this battery is? TSA is also vague about even flying with one that is less than 100 watts and says one should check the airline's website. Q: what do you do when there are restrictions like this? When flying to France, I was able to take my Vanquish 540, but that uses AA batteries and I would really prefer to use the EQ800. I would really appreciate any suggestions about flying with metal detectors and how you deal with the security issues. Thanks a lot, Jane

I am a little nervous actually as I don't want to sound like an idiot - I have been detecting for over 15 years and still don't really know what I'm doing. I keep buying more and more expensive detectors in the hope that they will do the magic for me. Recently I've been thinking of getting a P.I. detector. Duh. This forum is excellent: I have already gleaned a load of very useful info from replies in the Minelab section. Plain English, and it is very encouraging to know that I can finally trust the advise of people that are so familiar and used to the issues that I have. Love the beaches and relic hunting in the woods near me in New York which still have ghosts from the past in 1776. I will read sections of the forum further before asking some questions! Thank you.
