I'm sure they were built to last, however they do have electrolytic capacitors and that means they have a limited lifetime

That's a Tesoro PCB for a Silver Umax, 6 capacitors there just waiting to die. 😉  Fortunately they're easy to replace by the end user so people should be able to keep their Tesoro's alive and kicking for many years to come, the coil will probably die before the detector if you're capable of some basic electronic repairs.

Temperature is a cause of shortened life on capacitors too, someone in a very hot climate is likely to have failure before someone in a milder cooler climate.

This is some good reading on Capacitors and lifetimes.

Just like most computer motherboards in the past. They look simple to replace and the machine as a whole isn't running like a PC.

I’m posting this to help our fellow man or woman.

What we have out here is a lot of V -Want to be’s But the only place they can get them is at Shaft Sports.

So you ask what can a Simplex + owner do  . Well first just let them hold your Simplex and tell them they can buy it from a dealer that  will be there after the sale .

If they ask why holding the Simplex it makes them nervous. Be sure to tell them you got it on vibrate. Do let them know it’s waterproof too .

If they want to know how many different Simplex + are they just let them down easy and tell them Dilek said just one .

I myself was looking maybe to buy a V but you won’t find me at Shaft Spots buying it .

At this time in my life with my Simplex + I’m not sure of the need of a V.

I had a post up a couple days ago. Adorama Camera carries them 254.00 no tax and free shipping. If someone wants one they are out there for the advertised price.

  3. George, Just slow down a bit and get to know the detector. Everybody has most of the same issues as you except the noise cancelling thing you mentioned. There is no machine that just sees desirable targets. Many targets show good when they are trash and that's all there is to it. If you recover 1 good target for every 10 bad ones you're doing good. Don't get discouraged it's a hobby not a sport to get rich with. Take a look at the Minelab 705, Nokta Simplex machine or Minelab Equinox 600. There are many easy to use machines out there new and used. However there is no "best" machine that will find only good things. Learn the machine, research the area to increase your target finds and be patient.

    Good luck! John

To learn my 800 I have only used the speakers because the headphones that came with it causes to much sweat build up in my ears. I don't like all that moisture and it is distracting to me.

Once I learn more about what I am doing then I will find earphones that don't make my ears sweat so much.

Hope their warranty takes care of the problem.

Sounds like a personal issue. Try some anti-antiperspirant in your ears. Sarcasm!

  5. Yeah well as in inherently curious person, I was wondering when someone will design a smart phone app that makes your smart phone into a virtual metal detector.  Might use a coil like the X35 on a carbon fiber shaft bluetooth connected or USB "c" connected. My Galaxy S10 + certainly has more than the processing power and ram required to do the job. Bluetooth headphone capable, gps, you name it.

    Just thinking again

  6. It sucks that they couldn't leave with some dignity to their followers. My Tesoro's are worth ZERO along with the fact that my newly acquired Makro Multi Kruzer's price just dropped 15% a month after I bought it doesn't please me. I never buy things like this thinking they are any kind of investment but I ain't buying any more machines in the foreseeable future unless they are Minelabs. They really hit the market hard with the Equinox series. I can see Whites folding in the not too distant future too. Sad because I was raised on Whites machines. Survival of the fittest I reckon.

  7. What I did was to get the most expensive machine that I could, got disappointed, and continued to dig. I have found lots of treasures, some had value many didn't. I guess you can say that beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. Now that I'm a lot older it's just the act of hunting that satisfies the need. Buy one machine first and both try it while the other retrieves. See if you really like it and go from there. Equinox 600 is a good place to start. It has a good price point for what you get and  is easy to use, light weight and waterproof. Have fun and stick with it. If you get disappointed put it down for awhile and try again later. I've been doing it for 45 years on and off and I still love to go out with my wife and dig and discuss life. And how much she spends on Amazon.  She has her own machine now so we can be together and go on our our adventures at the same time. It's fun!
