  1. Personally I do not even believe this new detector is going to be called the Storm after talking to someone at Garrett, they were Laughing at me when I brought up the new so called Storm detector and they stated

(we have no clue where people got that thought in their heads, they also stated that no one in the know has told anyone what this new Garrett will be Called as of yet)

What was also stated by the person I talked to was the reference to the Storm is people in Texas use that term

(there is a Storm coming or on the Horizon, to make people aware of a huge event that is about to take place) LOL it does not necessarily mean that is what something is going to be called the STORM, LOL

Coil bolt and two washers really are for sale at Garrett.com for $10.99.  Thanks Lama!!!

That is strange I have searched the Garrett Direct website several times and those parts are not coming up for me but when I clicked the Link that @Steve Herschbach posted they came rite up

Ordered two extra sets, the shipping is kind of expensive for those little parts that could be put in a letter size envelope and sent LOL

  3. bout time Garrett came into reality

just placed an order for two sets and the shipping from Texas to Arizona $12, which is pretty high shipping fees for two little items that could be placed in a letter sized envelope, and mailed to someone one state over.

I looked online in Garrett Direct yesterday and could not find those parts no where on the Garrett Direct site

Thanks for posting the Link @Steve Herschbach appreciate it

OK, please realize these are prototypes.  However, I can tell you aside from the attachment ring in the Upper Strut of the DALAS being too large, this thing is amazing.

I wanted to do a video but it is so windy today it would have not been ideal.

So let's look at the Detector Air Lift Assist Stick and the OPTIONAL Detector Air Lift Assist Strap.
    2024-03-2810_35_42.thumb.jpg.e061490c77752f345c141242b1f4fd1b.jpg

There are four parts aside from the QWIPPLE BUNGEE on the stick.  #1 The Paddle, #2 the lower Strut, #3 The upper Strut, #4 The DALASystem Slide Clip.

#1 The paddle slips into the waistband in the middle of your back.  This has a female thread for you to screw in the lower strut to adjust to your "WIDTH"  It is very generous, and if you don't need that much excess simply saw off the excess with a hacksaw.  The entire DALAStick is made of Nylon with infused fiber glass for amazing strength.  WARNING! - DO NOT try to secure this adjustment with a screw. it needs to be able to move freely front to back.

#2 The lower strut screws into the paddle as explained above to give your the width adjustment.  I recommend you keep the rod as close to your ribs as comfortable.  This way your arm does not bump into it.

#3  The upper strut has a female thread that attaches to the male thread on the lower strut to give you a generous height adjustment.  This strut has two guide holes so when you find that perfect adjustment you use the provided drill bit, drill a hole approx. 1/4 inch deep through the upper strut into the threaded portion of the lower strut to lock your adjustment in.  WARNING!!!  Do not drill holes or secure the upper rod in place until you have put the weight of a detector on the upper strut.  You need the weight of the detector to show you what the proper height adjustment should be.   If you are very short, you may want to saw off some of the upper threaded part of the lower strut.   However you can only cut off approximately 1 1/2 inches.  The male thread you see  showing in the picture is the maximum you can cut off.

I recommend you mark all adjustments with a Sharpie so you always know where your width adjustment should be on the paddle.

    #4. The DALAStick Slide Clip.

THIS IS  A PICTURE OF THE DALAStick and optional DALAStrap (That ring where the QWIPPLE attaches will be approx. 2 inches in the production units.)

You do not have to use the strap, it is available as an optional accessory.  The DALAStick will work with your harness rig.  I do advise that you may want to mount a ring lower down on your shoulder strap.  I'll explain why in a minute.

    2024-03-2811_01_34.thumb.jpg.93f5925e9bcfa24ac2cd3a089fbef3d0.jpg

THE FRONT OF THE UPPER STRUT has two guide holes for you to drill and screw in the provided screws to lock in your height adjustment.

    2024-03-2811_03_02.thumb.jpg.b171519e5720b3317fc156437b6c99fe.jpg

The lower rod screws into the comfort paddle and can be adjusted for maximum comfort.

As I have mentioned before, in order for the weight of your detector to be properly redirected, the movement of the DALAStick can not be impeded in any way.  Anything that interferes with the ability of the DALAStick to move freely up and down transfers the weight to whatever is interfering with that movement.  That is why it is important that your "D" ring attachment point or "O" ring attachment point is low, so as not to impede the movement of the DALAStick to slide inside the SLIDE CLIP.  If the "D" ring is too high the DALAStick SLIDE CLIP will stop at the "D" ring and the weight will be transferred to your shoulder.
    2024-03-2811_02_28.thumb.jpg.bd01cf2249854e98fe8a6aca7cec7726.jpg

I have been wearing this around the house for three hours.  It's like it's not even there.  When you bend over it moves with you because it rotates inside the paddle.
    2024-03-2811_03_57.thumb.jpg.c81b17730688545c6a9f9695ac24b4a7.jpg

Already I can see that the "O" ring and the sleeve on the DALAStrap needs to be lowered and adjusted because it is too high.

    So it's a process.

I went outside and hooked up my GPZ7000.  LOL it now weighs nothing.  Literally nothing.  All that happens is the weight of the detector is transferred to the paddle which pushes your waistband out and away from you.  I can tell you, that once you use this, you will not be without it.  If you're someone who suffers with arm and neck and back problems; your legs will wear out before your swinging arm.

Congratulations to Valens Legacy for using the word STICK in one of his posts.

    Valens message me your address.

I just hope people watching don't quit their jobs and think they can go out and find enough gold to make a good living. Yes, it's possible. But the odds are not in your favor. It's sure a great hobby though. Also, if gold continues to climb in value as I think it will then it will become easier to make a living by prospecting. I once spent a month just panning on an overworked gold bearing creek in northern California. It was tedious and I only got an ounce of fine gold. At the time it was worth about $1100. Now it would be over $2000. Of course everything else is more expensive as well.

I was going to quit my job tomorrow LOL wait I do not have a Job that I can quit LOL well not really, I still have to take care of my wife which is a full time job LOL

Well, my dealer didn't have any stock and his distributor had no more LG24's and no ETA on when more are coming in. That was the answer I got. So he could not swap out with me. Again, I'm starting to think there is a bad batch of LG24's out there that Nokta knows about. The fix is simple- take this one back and send me a good one. Nokta can then disassemble it, microscope it, put it in a washing machine, send it to Mars or whatever, just give me one that works. Why? Because I paid for a working product and didn't get that with this coil. If they think it is more than the coil, fine. I will send whatever they want but I expect replacements and not weeks later either.

And while you're at it, admit there is a potential for a problem. These are man made things, it happens. No product is perfect. How you handle issues are important. As we rack up the days with no response I will become more aggravated and have more buyer's remorse.

Contact Andy Oneal at We Dig he is the U.S repair person for Nokta, he may be able to speed things up

DSMITH -- thank you for the very thorough review, it's very much appreciated.  You bring very good thoughts to the table, and Ryan and I will discuss your thoughts.

    THANK YOU!

    Steve

Not a problem Steve, I greatly appreciate You and Ryan giving me the opportunity to test these out with my ORX

  8. Recently I was sent two RCDIGS mounts to try out with my ORX, and this is an update on those two mounts, which both work great

in fact here is my Email to Ryan and @steveg on the RCDIGS mounts for the Deus 2, Deus 1 and ORX, Ryan and Steve, are working on coming up with a mount that will also work with the Deus 1 and ORX Ryan already has a mount that works with the Deus 2

    Hi Ryan

just wanted to let you know I received your package today Thank you so much, both mounts work great with the ORX controller

I took the original controller mount off the shaft and handle of my ORX and then took both RCDIGS mounts out into my test bed and went one at a time in my testbed switching them out, and moving my ORX controller in and out of each, both mounts worked fantastic

The Mount for the Deus 2 controller is the one I like the best, because of the angle it puts the controller at, that is a great feature on the Deus 2 mount and with the adapter you came up with it is great, the one thing with the one for the Deus two is the bottom of the Window that the Deus Controller sets in the very bottom of that window could be adjusted just a little to make access to the pinpoint button a little easier to access a little better, for me personally I do not use the pin point feature on the ORX at all so it is no issue at all for me, but with the way people are any more I could see them complaining about that, if I decide to use the Deus 2 mount with the adapter with my ORX I would just take a razor knife and carve it down just a bit so it made it easier to use with the ORX pin point button LOL

the Deus 1 mount fit absolutely perfect with the ORX inside that mount, if I had to choose one thing to make different on the Deus 1 mount it would be to offer that mount with a right, left and straight up angle other than that if I were you I would not change either, in fact with the adapter inside the Deus 2 mount and was only going to produce one mount the one for the Deus 2 is the one that I would keep producing and offer the Adapter for sale also so that it would work with the Deus 1, Deus 2 and the ORX, Deus 1 and ORX would require the adapter

Both mounts fit great in the ORX shaft they slid right in to the opening where the old controller mount goes, i did pre drill the holes in the part that slides into the shaft after i tried both mounts in my test Bed, the winner for me is the Deus 2 mount with the adapter for the Deus 1 and ORX and the only reason that is, is because of that right hand angle, other than that one thing I actually love both.

I will be recommending the RCDIGS mount to everyone I know with a deus2, Deus ! and the ORX because they are fantastic and no more worrying about losing, any of the three controllers makes them very secure, I do have a buddy that actually lost his Deus 1 controller so I will be showing him the next time we detect together, and will let him give one of the mounts a try LOL, I will not let him have it but will allow him to try them

the one I have chosen to stay on my ORX is the Deus 2 Mount with the Adapter,

If I owe you something for these please let me know Photo Attached is the Deus 2 mount with the adapter

I like to be prepared when I go into the field. I always carry extra coil bolts and washers. Does anyone have a link to where these can be purchased?  Trying to look them up all I can find are Garrett AT series bolts and washers.

Please let us know what the price is you are quoted, I know what I was quoted by Rusty, hope you are not shocked like I was

$33.99 per set is what Rusty quoted me I about choked on my Coffee LOL

  10. for me personally I feel Garret should supply those three little parts with each coil especially when the coils are $400 each and I have purchased two spare coils already, and neither coil came with coil bolts and washers, the one set Rusty through in I have setting in my Safe LOL, well not really I have it attached to one of my extra coils which I carry out with me when I go out to detect so it is in the bag that came with my Axiom and I carry that bag with the Extra Coils inside.

    Coil nut screw PN 9712300

    Washers PN 9714300

Can’t find them anywhere online. Not good Garrett, not good, though in their defense it’s up to dealers to order and stock parts. I am the guy who pressured Garrett to sell the plastic vials from their panning kit as a separate item - you want it you have to ask. Presumably with the bolt coming with the detector nobody has been asking, but it’s a given they will be needed eventually.

Two sets of AT bolts with washers can be had for $18.00 or less so an Axiom bolt better not be $30 or I’ll be looking hard for an alternative. I’ll go through my bolt kit today and see if anything else fits.

I hate to break it to you Steve but when I called to ask about the Coil bolt and two Rubber Washers for the Axiom I was quoted $33.99 for those three little parts that came from Rusty, i had just placed an order for the 16x14 Mono Coil so he ended up throwing in a spare set for me at no charge

i about fell out of my seat when he quoted that price to me as I was going to order a few extras one set for each coil, I even made a comment to Rusty and ask him if they were made of Gold

I agree, the all black buttons are just plain dumb.

Has anyone used the Nokta protective cover with the keys in red?  https://www.noktadetectors.com/accessory/protective-system-box-cover/

I'll be honest I haven't purchased it because I think Nokta should have included one with each Legend since they clearly don't want' to make the buttons more visible.  Or at least offered them to current owners at cost.  I love the company and the Legend is a really good detector but the button issue simply doesn't make sense to me.  Meanwhile I just have the buttons pretty much memorized so it really isn't a problem for me anymore.

Yep I tried that thing also

the problem with the cover that has the neoprene with the colored in buttons is it will not stay in place so you end up pushing the wrong buttons all the time, I dealt with that for about 3 weeks then I pulled it off and went back to my Dean Os cover, that one with those colored in buttons on the neoprene was a good idea if it would have worked as intended, but it moved around to much and would not stay in place

  13. I have not had any issues in ground balancing either DD that I have which is the 13x11 and the 7x11, both seem to balance great in Fine mode, I run my sensitivity at 4 or 5 sometimes down on 3, I do tend to run the 7x11 Mono more though, and I do not use the headphones that came with my Axiom, I use the relay that Wiggins from Avantree sent to me and the Avantree Torus exclusively also, the ground I detect Balances around 54-57 has been as high as 68 on the upper numbers and 44-47 on the lower number

  14. 44 minutes ago, RobNC said:

Well what about to cut costs? Could also be a power consumption issue seeing as how the Legend is multifrequency simultaneous vs the simplex one frequency. Perhaps the Legend consumes way more power and adding lighted keys would further deplete the battery. Hard to say. But I think most will agree the keys need some sort of markings.

thats the $64000 question and those buttons do need some sort of marking on them they not only look good with the markings but much more functional as far as being able to see them

  15. 2 hours ago, RobNC said:

The good news is this is a water based acrylic paint. It does not react, destroy, or otherwise harm the keys themselves. I could get out some Dawn detergent, a soft bristle toothbrush, some water, and get it off without any harm whatsoever. That is another reason why I chose it.  It's not something that etches into the material like a lot of other paints. You can even put this paint on glass without an issue. Would be glad to prove that to Nokta if it ever becomes an issue with a warranty claim on the control unit itself on down the road. They would be more than welcome to test the paint against their key material for degradation. There would  be none.

I'm of the opinion they did not put lights under the keys because it may have compromised the solid waterproof rating the Legend has. It's a totally sealed membrane looks like. Putting a clear window under the buttons would have introduced a water intrusion vector after the detector was used for years maybe. Who knows.

Glow-On also makes a tape that glows. If one was inclined they could use an X-Acto and cut the tape into fine strips to fit into the indents on the buttons.

Well I would agree with you on the Water Proofing if it was not for one thing the Simplex plus has lighted buttons and is also still water proof so your theory goes out the window LOL The Simplex Plus and the Legend pretty much share the same control housing

To me personally it was just a stupid over sight on Nokta/Macros part for not making those buttons on the Legend more visible for the consumer to see the buttons better

  16. 37 minutes ago, RobNC said:

After having seen others paint the keys on their Legend I decided to try something totally different.

I used Glow Paint. It was tedious, and I can probably get another coat on it but this is how it looks both day and in darkness.

    Legend_day.jpgLegend_Night.jpg

I like it. Again, it was tedious due to how the paint is. I used a bamboo skewer to apply the paint inside the button indents. Wiped excess off. Found out it was easier to just coat the button and immediately wipe off excess. This is what it looks like after 12 hrs cure time.

The paint used is Glow-on. I had some Neon Green on hand from another project but I'd prefer it to be blue. The stuff isn't cheap but a little goes a long way.

    https://www.amazon.com/Super-Phosphorescent-Sights-Concentrated-lasting/dp/B00GUA92RQ?ref_=ast_sto_dp

Again, this stuff works best in multiple coats. What you are seeing is just a thin single coating. Will probably apply at least one more layer. But giving this 24 hrs between applications works best.  Thought you might find it interesting.

EDIT: Oh, I also installed a Skinomi screen protector to the display. In the picture it has a blemish but I have since wiped that off. I cut the piece to fit. It's a Matte version of their clear model. Really cuts down on glare in the sunlight.

I tried that when I first received my legend back almost two years ago but could not find any of that paint that actually worked so I gave up on the idea and just painted the buttons gold, I never could figure out why Nokta/Macro did not do something to make those buttons where they were easier to see

Your Legend came out really nice with that glow in the dark paint

I will tell you there is a controversy going on, on Facebook rite now with people stating it voids your warranty, I do not know if it does or does not but, but painting or coloring those buttons is something nokta/macro should have done from the start, the Legend should have been released with those buttons colored to begin with to make them easier to see while learning the what each button did.

Send me an email, if you are interested, at steve@stevesdetectorrods.com.  Ryan has a working prototype of the adapter I mentioned; I wanted to see if you'd be interested in field-testing it...

    Thanks!

    Steve

I sent you an email Steve, yes I would absolutely love to be a field tester of the proto type and thank you for the opportunity to do so

    Hey all.

I know this is the Deus 2 forum, but this relates to the discussion going on in the RCDigs mount thread, and specifically, to DSMITH's questions.

I have spoken with the guy who makes the RCDigs mounts, about an idea that I had that would make the mount directly compatible with either a Deus 1 or an ORX remote.  My idea is to make an "adapter," that fits the inside of the mount, but fits the outside of the Deus/ORX remote, so that you'd simply slide the adapter into the mount, and then slide the remote into the adapter.  This might be a relatively low-cost, simple way to make the mount (designed specifically to fit the D2 remote) compatible with the D1/ORX.

    The issues are these:

    1.  I'm not sure if the shape of the Deus 1 and ORX remotes are identical, or just "similar."  If anyone has an answer to this, please let me know.  I THINK they are identical, but not positive on that...

    2.  Neither of us has a D1 or ORX remote at our disposal, to use as a template for developing such an "adapter."  So, if by chance anyone has a defective one, that is no longer under warranty or whatever, and thus is just collecting dust, I'd be interested in it.  Again, I'd just need one for enough time to use it as a template, so it doesn't make much sense to purchase a properly functioning one, just for "design" purposes.  But, a non-functioning one, that could thus be had for a much lower price, would be worth purchasing...

    Thoughts?

    Steve

Hey Steve if interested I could send you my ORX remote so you could use it as a temp-let and then just send it back to me when finished, i am not getting in much detecting rite now so it would not be an issue to loan it to you, then just send it back when finished with what you need from it.

I really want to purchase one of those RCDIGS things but I just have not had a chance to purchase one yet so if you and the manufacturer can come up with a solution for a better fit of the ORX remote I will wait to purchase one when you and RCDIGS comes up with the adapter to make it better for the ORX fit

    Let me know
