  1. Here is how I look at it when I own a detector, I purchase as many of the available coils for what ever particular detector, I would rather purchase the coils and have the options whether I ever use all the coils or not because there will come a time I run into a situation that a big coil will work better than a 6 inch round same goes for the 6 inch round there are times it works better, it is the same for all coils there are times I use that little 4x6 when I need it, if I didn't have it i would be wishing I did, when I am out detecting I do not like putting myself into a situation where I am wishing I had this coil or that coil, when I go into a spot to detect I carry every coil I have purchased with me for the particular detector I will be swinging, just like the Axiom, I purchased two other coils for it also and am planning on picking up a third extra coil just to have the options for situations that arise that call for a different coil, if I never use one of those other options oh well it does not matter but if I need a different option i have it

That was one of my issues with the Gold Monster was the limited coils that were available, there were and still are only two why ??

I also never found one available for a sensible price either. It was the one coil I could have used a lot if I had one 😞

I love that little 4x6 coil it is very handy when you are in areas where you have to get a coil in between very tight spots that the other three coils will not fit into, on the opposite side of the coin i also love that 14x8 when you have areas that you can swing a bigger coil like larger open areas that do not have any or very few obstacles to get around, all four of the coils for the 24K have there place of use

I've been trying to get one for ages now, appears impossible.

although that 4x6 is out there but, it does take a bit to locate one that someone is willing to part with, I just happened to be looking at the rite time and I am not one that is afraid to ask if someone is willing to sell things separately, it took me a month or so and calling people that had them before I finally was able to locate the one I have

So you were picking up the ring with the detector, what did it ring up as and how much did it weigh?

Did you ever find the faint signal item?

Good luck on your next outing.

yep if you would had read my whole thread you would have seen that I stated the faint signal ended up being a piece of wire

Have never weighed my ring but it is 18K gold and it was giving a high low screaming tone on the Axiom, which does not have TIDs on the Axiom but was registering on the non ferrous side of the ferrous non ferrous meter around middle way up on non ferrous side, and yep it was signaling on the Axiom because I was using my left hand to run my scoop across the coil which I had a glove on both hands, which was why it never dawned on me that it was seeing my ring

Worst I did was go to Montana  fly fishing and forgot my reels  stopes in Dillon Montana to my sweet spot and damn no reels   Had to go to the store and buy one  thank god they had the Loomas reels at a good price spent that Christmas fishing the Clark  fork 25 degrees  cast bring it in dip in the river to unfreeze then cast  again  it was finnaly a good day catch and release every cast     plan was go to seAttle and home missed the good spot been lucky on the detector  stuff did for get the pick once but used sticks   We all do it as long as you make it home safe and don’t leave

your detector  I hear of that happening a few Times

    dohh

Fortunately have never miss placed a detector while out detecting, but I did drive off and forgot to pick up a $1000 chainsaw one time when I was out cutting firewood, that one hurt because I used that saw to make money with, drove back 60 miles to the last place I had used it and Bigfoot or someone beat me to it

Just about worn out my current set of kneepads.  I've had trouble with false signals from the metal button tab fittings on my current pair when kneeling to recover a target...especially with the larger 13" coil on the Axiom where its a bit awkward to sweep the hole and avoid the kneepads.

Anybody have a recommendation for kneepads that dont have metal fittings?

I use these and love them

Sure, I brought up bone conduction to my boss, we're considering producing them, need to run it by our engineers and product team, and also gauge interest from the community.

On another note, would any of you be interested in a durable clip-on speaker with aptX Low Latency?

Similar to this DeWalt device: https://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-Wearable-Bluetooth-Resistant-Hands-Free/dp/B0B11LNX21

    image.thumb.png.edb364283e53c15c263e0b514aa9f663.png

At the moment, the frontrunners for our development would be:

1: Upgraded version of Torus with better durability

2: Clip-on speaker with aptX Low Latency

3: NB18 style neckband earbuds with aptX Low Latency

4: Bone conduction headphones with aptX Low Latency

All of these devices if developed would come with the Relay Bluetooth transmitter (aptX Low Latency enabled) and a 3.5mm-6.35mm jack.

As @phrunt said in his reply all four would go over big with us detectorist, with the four different types you posted up there would be something for each and everyone of us detectorist we would have to look no further than Avantree for our detecting, hearing devices, they would all work

    DSmith,

If it wasn't for stupid/dumb things I've done while out prospecting, I'd have far less stories to share with others.

You're now a member of a very large club of fellow gold hunters that have made similar mistakes.

Life without mistakes would be very boring (that's what I convince myself of when I mess up). 😆

    All the best,

    Lanny

Yep I have done plenty of stupid things in my life, some of them I do not even care to share or think about, I chalk them up to another learning experience, I have set and watched people do some stupid things and been on the other end of the stick and done some stupid things, i just tell myself, (I wont be doing that ever again) LOL

but I know it will probably happen again at some point just hope its not to soon so I can chalk it up to being old

  10. How many out there have done something that just made you shake your head and think to yourself how freakin stupid can you be, well I can tell you I sure have LOL and yesterday was one of those days.

Went out detecting for a bit to relax my mind yesterday morning and to get some more time on the Axiom drove out to a spot about 5 miles from my house, put my gloves on pick in hand and going up a wash swinging away enjoying the great out doors, get a very faint target so I get down and start going to town with my pick, move about an two inches of dirt, swing the Axiom over the spot again target still in the ground dig a little more, still a faint target but keeps getting a bit louder the deeper i dig pull another couple of inches of dirt out of the spot and the target is gone so I am thinking ok I have it out of the ground after digging down around 4-5 inches, start scooping up dirt in my plastic scoop third scoop Axiom is screaming, I am scratching my head because it was not that loud in the ground even after I had dug down at around 2-3 inches it was just a faint target, but in the scoop its screaming start doing the half in the hand and other half in the scoop across the coil, still screaming transfer half to my hand again and half in the scoop again still screaming in the scoop nothing on the half that was in my right hand, look in the scoop a bit and I see nothing, but the Axiom was screaming when I would slide my scoop over the Axiom coil so I look in the scoop again still screaming I am thinking as loud as the axiom is screaming there has to be a big honking nugget or piece of metal in my scoop, still nothing I am perplexed to say the least and standing there in bewilderment because every time I slid the scoop across the Axiom coil it would scream, run the magnet into the dirt that in the scoop nothing, started getting these thoughts in my head there is something wrong with the Axiom or the coil, after about an hour of going through the same ritual dirt in scoop across the coil and listening to the Axiom scream, it finally dawned on me I was sliding the scoop across the Axiom coil using my left hand, on my Left hand I wear a pretty good size wedding ring which I did not notice because I had gloves on, and that is what the Axiom was picking up

Oh the faint target was a pretty small piece of scrap wire

There is my dumb stunt for the day give me some of your dumb stunts.

  11. Hi Wiggins at one time I had a pair of these that I used when I was the foreman on a landscape maintenance crew for a school district, I would actually wear them while running a mower which mowers have very loud volumes when the blades and engine is running

I would listen to music through these while I was operating a mower and they had great volume that I could hear music over the mower through these, they were made by Panasonic and are no longer in production, they were produced back in the early 2000s

    https://www.aptx.com/products/panasonic-btg-s10-bone-conduction-headset

if Avantree could produce something like these I believe they would work great for Metal Detecting

In our experience, Bone Conduction headphones are not very loud. At max volume, they are not as loud as Air Conduction headphones such as the Avantree Lingo or the Avantree Resolve, and much softer than in-ear models such as Airpods and Samsung buds.

We can look into boosting the volume for Bone Conduction headphones, but so far it seems like they are the quietest option, which may not be great for you if you're trying to hear the subtle beeps. The Torus' speaker may be a better option if you want to be aware of your surroundings.

totally agree with you Wiggins, on the Bone Conduction headphones

The phones have a rechargeable battery powered amplifier. With full volume they are acceptable. There may be a limit to how much volume can be achievable with bone conduction? On cold windy days I use the same receiver unit with over the ears headphones.

I think you are correct, with the way Bone conduction transfers the sound through your Cheek Bone to allow for hearing the sounds, there may be a limit as to what a manufacture could achieve as far as volumes are concerned, I will say the Bone Conduction phones I tried even though they had onboard volume control on the headphones themselves the volume was limited by the amount of volume control that the detector itself could be adjusted to

a fore instance with the Legend it only has 6 volume levels that the Legend is capable of achieving so even at its loudest volume setting of 6 it just was not enough, but when I used the same bone Conduction phones with the Axiom using a transmitter plugged into the headphone jack of the Axiom the Volume was considerably louder through the Bone Conduction phones, it was the same with my 24K so the volumes that can be achieved is really dependent on both the detector and the Bone Conduction phones being able to be adjusted to a higher volume level

Avantree also produces a Bone Conduction style headphone called Lingo, the Lingo is Air Conduction, the Lingo works fairly good also except when the wind is blowing, then you can not hardly hear the tones

I will say each and every bone conduction and air conduction device I tried worked fantastic and had great volume with my Cell or when using them with my Lap Top or TV they all had great volume Levels but were the complete opposite when using them with a detector, which is what tells me that the Volumes that can be achieved is dependent on how high the volume can be adjusted on what ever device you connect them to

I used two Avantree Saturn Pro aptX Low Latency transmitter/receiver units for years with my GPX 5000 with earbuds.

I am currently using one as a receiver that pairs with my GPX 6000 with Bone conduction phones.

It would be great if Avantree could combine the Avantree Saturn Pro apt Low Latency electronics into a set of bone conduction phones to eliminate the dangling cord and controls and the charging of an extra battery.

    Avantree and bone phones.jpg

I would love to see Avantree come out with some wireless true bone conduction headphones that has really good audio volume levels and good audio sound

I have tried several pairs of Bone Conduction headphones some were compatible with the aptX LL and a couple were not and the main issue I ran into with all of the Bone Conduction headphones I tried, was the volume was not adequate enough to make them usable with a detector, yes you could hear the tones but it was a struggle to hear the tones and if the wind was blowing it was impossible to hear anything through them, yes putting a pair of earplugs in your ears helped with being able to hear the sound coming through them but for me personally the whole reason I want Bone Conduction headphones is so I can stay aware of what is happening around me, and having to put a set of earplugs in to be able to hear the tones coming from your detector kind of defeats the purpose for me wearing bone conduction headphones

I like your headphone set up @Chet other than the wire aspect, how is the volume of the headphones ???

  15. 2 hours ago, Norvic said:

Yeah Wiggins the Torus here downunder is probably the most used by serious detector operators BT neckband, personally I dont see any need for latency any lower than atpX, to add to Phrunts post the Torus aint broke.... please dont phase it out unless the product replacing it can do as well for us and is compatible with our detectors.

PS We find a good pair of non-metal long lasting comfortable boots and when they wear out they are no longer available to purchase, I beg you please don`t let the Torus go that way😉

I hope you meant aptX LL instead of just aptX because there is a huge difference of Latency aptX LL from my understanding is 40ms or lower and standard aptX is 150ms or higher

Of course .  Treasure side of the beach !

    Must maintain balance.

Arrrrrr , post 'em up !  Treasure can have a dark side too..

Yep like finding someones Dentures, as was recently posted by @Gerry in Idaho, you have to wonder what happened to the person that lost them or how in the world did someone loose them, a ring or a necklace or even a hearing aid I can understand but a set of dentures ????

I'd give the Simplex a miss, it's duck being murdered tones are terrible, and I'm not overly impressed at all with its performance, good bang for the buck build quality, features and so on, but performance is a bit of a letdown, other detectors by other manufacturers maybe a better choice if you're sticking to that similar sort of price point.

The Legend on the other hand sounds a great choice for you, and if you expect your wife to use a Simplex while you run circles around her with a multi freaker think again, she'll end up claiming that detector and you'll be stuck murdering ducks all day watching her get all the best finds.

The problem is that Simplex Goose never DIE'S LOL

My understanding from Avantree's post was Avantree was offering those existing FS/SBC neckband phones up as a visual stand-in for a future BT LE variant Avantree is considering with the same form factor to gage detectorist interest in that form factor, so I think that's what Redz was responding to.

Regarding that form factor - I like neckband style as it captures the buds in the event one falls out in the field (vs. true wireless), but I like all the controls to be limited to the neckband itself.  I dislike control modules hanging off the earbud wires.  It makes them feel unbalanced and regardless of how light and compact those modules are, the tug on the earbud and tend to dislodge it, especially if you are fiddling with the the control module to adjust a setting.

I do understand what Avantree is doing Chase, I probably should have added a bit more when I replied to Redz stating what you just did but I was just trying to let him know that currently those are FS and SBC just in case he was wondering

  19. 11 minutes ago, phrunt said:

This is why they would need to have a range of offerings based upon the LE chipset with very low latency, hopefully 20ms.

Some prefer ear buds, headphones, a wearable speaker and others the neck band.  If they had the whole range available and the transmitter sold separately or bundled with each option, they would have the detecting market well covered.  The Torus having ear buds as an option is pretty good.

This is our opportunity to provide feedback on an ideal product line that can turn into a product for us, something we would all want to use, a rare opportunity.

Agree 100% phrunt, Avantree needs every ones input on this, they are open to trying to produce a product for us detectorist and understand the importance of very Low Latency, so everyone pitch in your ideas

  20. As Jeff Stated and I can only report what I know about the Simplex Plus as I have never used the Ultra or BT

Those tones on the Simplex Plus drove me nuts, they remind me of the Aflac Goose that someone has a strangle hold on and the goose refuses to die and shut up, even though I own the ATP and never use it I would much rather listen to that audio in pro mode that the ATP offers as to hear that dying goose tones of the Simplex Plus, don't know if the Ultra is the same or not but lets hope not
