I have a pair of Amphibians which are to low on volume and a pair of Tony Eisenhauer which will work but still do not have the volume of the Black Widows and do not fit my head as they are a tad bit small.

I have horrible luck with all of these jumpers, and I love my Black Widows too. I had Tony Eisenhower cut my 1/4 jacks off my Black Widows and install 1/8 jacks and make me custom jumpers, so they are waterproof at the machine.  It is a PIA when you cannot use quality headphones you already own.

The 800 is a turn-and-go hunt detector, and it has never let me down. It was like riding a bike, I felt like the 800 was the simple machine we all think we need to improve upon when the reality is it works and works really well. I'm not saying I've lost confidence in my D2, but I don't want to spend time tuning my detector as that's not what I want or need out of a detector.

    I HEAR you!

Went on a three-week binge to learn the D2 this winter, after using it on and off for months. What surprised me the most is when I went back to the Equinox.
I realized how simple and good it was. All around, from depth, target ID and, ease of use to run AT PEAK PERFORMANCE!  It was nice to give that chirpy mother-in-law D2 a rest.

You may be right about .71.  I can’t swear to that one way or the other.  Both of my D2s are using 1.1  and they don’t go into negative territory

I actually rather liked it. If you don't want to back date, I will be back on my .71 D2 in August, and I can check. If it does go to -6.4 I just might try a notch from there.

I went back to Beach Sensitive to try yet again, this time by adjusting the discrimination….and that’s when I realized that  you can’t go below 0.0 discrim in the Beach programs.

Could have sworn I did run -6.4 in a few beach programs under .71 for a few days. Did you try in .71? I actually wrote a review somewhere.

Notching out 0-10 does avoid many of the tent stakes and other occasional ferrous items that are few in number anyway.

I know many have said it is better to notch than use Disc. I am going to experiment with notching more when I get back on the machine.
That said, I do Disc. at 22. This is due to the Black Sand Issues. Have not seen a negative impact of nonferrous target depth which I have done lots of testing on.
Maybe a higher Disc or notch would help?

Yes, when the coil is wet and you decide to work the dry, the sand accumulation does add some weight. I find myself turning the coil sideways and gently bumping it on the beach to shake some of it off.

I'm wondering how much heavier the 15" will be. I noticed they aren't using the extra bracing, so maybe it won't be too much heavier.

I have the Equinox 15" coil and the Manticore 11" is not much different to swing at the beach, although the 11" is a bit better.

I suspect that few people will complain about the two coils being much different. I looked for a while and could not find any weight specs on the 11"or 15" coils.

Am I the only one thinking this is getting weird? Does Minelab know this is actually costing them sales? I held a new Manticore in the box last month, thought about buying it, and decided no.

I decide no as well. Even though I really thought it performed well at the beach. I did not like how the 11" coil with all the supports caught the sand, so I was hoping for a Coiltek 10X5 to dedicate it for the water.  If Minelab only comes out with an 8X5 this detector will be a total no.

Also, it has not actually been confirmed that Quest has decided to not distribute the V series in the US because of an explicit threat of litigation

There seems to be an assumption that Minelab is the abuser here, when in fact Quest (Deteknix)

and he is checking with Quest, there is more than one way to skin a cat

Could it be that the Quest V series does not comply with FCC guidelines/requirements?

I'm using AF at 5 myself now, and with Bottle Caps at 3 even the Coronas don't fool me. I still pick bottle caps on top as a courtesy, but I'm not digging them lately.

How do you think your depth of detection is with these settings??
Have you ever compared same fringe targets with filters off?
