I am hesitant to answer. Discrimination to discrimination Deus 2 wins.
The Equinox can work magic when targets cannot TID. An Equinox will beat the Deus 2 every time with single or double beeps off the coil. The Equinox has the advantage in Black Sand too.
This is another case of knowing which detector to use when!

So, 9 hours from full charge to flashing 1 bar in a minimal activity setting. Hmmm...
I think, time to order a replacement battery.

As a salt beach hunter, I don't think you will be able to use the gold program at all under water.
You are correct that the Beach Sensitive program is the only salt mode that has a good shot at chains! I think you should try one different adjustment. First if you're trying to hunt with 95 sensitivity under water>forget it. I cannot even hunt the wet sand in my location at 95 sensitivity.
In my testing the D2 did not lose depth until sensitivity 88. I would try keeping your Audio Response at 6 and turn down sensitivity to achieve hunt ability. I am 100% confident an Audio Response of 6 and a sensitivity of 88 will out hunt an Audio Response of 4 and sensitivity of 95 on fringe targets. You will also get a sharper response on small open gold chains.
The point I am trying to make> There is no need to overdrive sensitivity to achieve good depth.
Another point>Threshold. Running a threshold can amplify crap sounds. I do not see the reason to run ANY threshold. Running a threshold may be a self-defeating adjustment, especially in saltwater conditions.

I recommend turning off Magnetic Rejection and using the maximum salt sensitivity setting that does not result in salt noise at your desired main sensitivity setting.
Yes X-2
Also, after much testing> I recommend keeping Audio Response at 6 and adjust detectability with sensitivity!

The Deus certainly is one quirky machine..!
A lot of small details could have been solved better imho.. Charging system, display, menu structure, stem, antenna cabling.. we'll see, how it works out.
CF lower shaft is on its way.Awesome first trip out. Good job on the gold.
YES, to everything else you said, and it does not age like wine over time.

Does running the battery down from 4 bars to 1 in maybe 6 hours of cumulative detecting time under these settings/conditions sound normal?
No, not normal at all. I would do a full charge right before you detect and see the results. Or, just leave the machine on for six hours just sitting somewhere after a full charge.

Already had basically decided not to give ML another penny anyway, so I guess this is a fitting end!
I know it is a tough road [been there] In reality a new pod with warranty for $350 is a pretty good deal. I do not know any other Mfg. that extends something like that near their cost.

AR doesn’t influence the metal detector detection depth but it helps to hear faint signals better.
You need to stop repeating a line in the Deus 2 manual or your "feelings". I have done the testing and Audio Response will and CAN make a target undetectable as to a comparable higher Audio Response. It is not hard to do, and the test is not hard to do either. This is why I recommend hunting the Deus 2 with an AR of 6 and control your detectability with sensitivity. That way you are assured to be running at peak performance.

Yep. For instance: there is a little low conductor target 12 inch deep. Deus 2 can’t detect because of high mineralization. If I turn up AR, D2 can’t detect anyway. Instead, if my sensitivity was on 81 and I increase it to 92 with same AR on 3, it’s possible D2 detect the little target because sensitivity affects depth. AR doesn’t affect depth.
You can make a target non detectable with a low AR rather than an AR of 6 or 7. You have not done enough testing.

Audio response does not give you any extra depth but makes weaker, deeper signals louder. It’s something which works on the signal amplification, it’s not like sensitivity which affects depth. They are 2 different things.
Nope.

Audio response is an adjustable signal amplification and doesn’t affect depth.
Audio Response 100% affects your depth.

Got sensitivity at 90, any more and more noise.
That is good! Look at the fringe stuff switching to 92-93 for a better ID. Should not be missing too much at 90 sensitivity!

I was using the Hoover program on my Deus 2 with a new twist, sensitivity low, Audio response at 6, and I set Magnetic Reject to "Accept". This is an old steamboat landing place so there is a lot of black sand, I figured I'd try it
What could you run for sensitivity? Does not look like Iron Wrap-around was too much of an issue.
1 hour ago, F350Platinum said:Once I got the dime out I got a another 70s signal immediately and scooped out this old silver filigree crucifix, I'd put it in the 1920s but it could be older or about the same as the dime. It has the same patina as the dime and no hallmarks so I'm assuming it is silver.
Silver will not register 90's with Black Sand around, unless it is a BIG chunk up high. Air test that sliver you found, and you will see the difference when it is in salt and Black Sand. Nice Hunt!!!

When I was on .71 every piece of iron rang up good. When I went to 1.1 all that pretty well quit. It really helped me.
That is good to know. Before I left my machine for the season, XP had not come out with the update.
I only hunted 4 days, so I did not want to update. When I get back on my machine for the season, I do plan on going to 1.1.- 2

As far as I can tell Beach Sens and Beach P have identical settings except for Beach Sens has 0 Reactivity and 3 Tones and Beach P has 1.5 Reactivity and Pitch Tones.
I usually hunt in Full Tones, and check with Pitch Tones, but I figured I'd reverse that and hunt in Pitch with 0 Reactivity, because targets are usually sparse, and check with Full Tones. Is it better to go with 2 or 3 Tones?
I don't know what it is about Beach P. In my location it makes iron targets stand out and look like nonferrous targets. I routinely tested deep fringe targets between modes [Beach and Beach Sens] Just did not like the way Beach Pitch performed at all. Only disadvantages, no advantages.

Did find 3 cuts in close, third cut held a few good target with lots of iron...Longest of all... 75 foot long opening about 100 feet off shore.

If there's any other beach hunting tips or tricks you want to throw my way
On fringe targets that will not TID. Watch for a number even if only one in 10 swings. Trust the number. Also look at a particular target in higher sensitivity than you are hunting in. Example if you can hunt in 90 sensitivity, raise to 94 just to look at that target.
Take a scoop of sand out if needed too. Noise cancel in front of every new hotel or complex.Good Luck!!!!

he only thing I really know is that I don't plan on going INTO the water. I'll be looking for hard packed wet sand. I'm a total noob at this! I realize my chances of actually finding a gold ring are pretty slim.
I highly recommend going with Beach Sensitive. Anything else would handicap you on any small gold and chains. Magnetic Accept, reactivity .5 to 1.0, Salt Sense 7, Audio R-6, Tracking GB, Silencer and bottlecap-0, Iron volume 3. If you are going to try to skip targets, knock out penny's and up.
What size coil?????
GOOD LUCK!!!!

However, if you are used to pitch tone, you can try P13 Beach P and maybe modify something to stabilize a bit on the wetsand.

I personally do not like Beach P. and never use it.
23 hours ago, Rattlehead said:So, I was thinking of setting up a notch pattern that accepts 40-75? What are your thoughts? I'm using version .71 if that matters.
Not good! I have a verified white gold ring 14k that put up a TID of 98-99. Most gold rings TID higher than 40. [chains under 40]

Hello Midalake, with magnetic “accept”, that Program isn’t usable on very hot soils. But I’m going to do other tests, on hematite, with a new custom program. It sounds promising, better than Focus 2T..
When I did testing on a Salt Beach with Black Sand, it seemed the depth and detector response was not as good when Magnetic Reject was chosen. This was another case where it was better to be in Magnetic Accept and use sensitivity to adjust performance.
