  1. leave the minelab coil alive. you better google for the coils shell- there are plenty of options. one example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Metal-detector-8-coil-housing-shell-with-bracket-/174001245964
  2. Regulated battery burned down (step up converter burned down). The reason is too high current consumption when the TDI start. It is possible to solve the problem by placing an extra capacity at the input of the DC converter.... ...but I have better idea. Here is a new version of regulated battery. This time using protected 2s3p Li-ion battery, and high quality step-up converter. I can pump-up battery easily to 16v. For the moment keeping it at 14v. Already tested and it works great.
  3. Right, I referred to 2200 mAh NiMh pack that is coming with your machine. Logically, the capacity should increase by 50%. But I have never used my NiMh battery pack, thus I don't have exact numbers to confirm. One's the TDI is not voltage regulated metal detector, I can imagine that the current consumption drops one's voltage of the battery pack drops. Thus standard 2200 mAh battery could last longer compering to identical capacity, but stabilized one. (Just because at some point standard battery pack will provide 10v, so the current will drop, giving you less depth). My goal was to make a one-hunt battery pack but with stable voltage. I have an extra capacity just in case if I decide to increase battery voltage in the future....
  4. Here is an update on TDIBH stabilized 12v Li-ion battery. Well it works great. The step up module does its job just fine, but the protection PCB triggers immediately when the detector is switched on. Thus for the moment I had to took out protection board (will search for the replacement). Here I'm using 6 X 3.7 v batteries in parallel to boost it to 12v. The capacity is around 40.4 wh comparing to 26.4 wh of the stock rechargeble battery pack. ...and the voltage is stable!
  5. Alexandre, I got your point about the compliance fee. Am I right thinking that 16v 1A in the coil might be close to the true? I think so, knowing that TDI withdraws around 0.7A at 16v and your machine is planned to be more powerful... 1a current is not something terrible for quality brand NiMHs, and understanding you might be fitting 2p battery to reach 4h+of hunting time (2000 mAh typical capacity of quality brand NiMH). in any case, thanks for posting here, and nice to know that your product is reaching the point of official launch.
  6. It looks like TDI´s purchased in EU are coming with ferrite filter. Mine 12" coil has exactly the same attached straight out of the box.
  7. It is a pity and a big problem for everybody: - manufacturer will have to sell a detector packed with NiMN at quite high price tag - the buyer will get detector limited in terms of performance. - serious detectorists will have to modify quite expensive unit to get desired performance. What would be a stock battery configuration? I am wrong thinking that it was planned to be 16v machine? Stock battery compartment doesn't seems to be able to fit inside 12s2p configuration? if it will be 1p battery configuration, the hunting time might be limited to 3 - 3.5h 😞 ... apart PI machine tend to be quite power demanding and it will be limited if stock NiMH can't deliver necessary current..
  8. Looks like Impulse AQ is nor really designed as a water mahine. Coil cable gland position is not optimum for underwater performance. Too many connectors are potentially weak points as well. Although results from video are impressive, I can barely imagine if somebody will be able to hunt in the surf at full gain and lowest delay settings... That's just my opinion. Hunting chest deep in the salt water with my TDI BH I am not able to keep full gain + 10us due too much falsing. Or I have to go deeper in the water to get rid of the wave influence or I have to lower my settings. Anyway new AQ looks unbeatable PI machine for hunting our of the water.
  9. right, the plan is to connect 3.7v 1s2p -> bms -> step up converter. Each cell has huge capacity of 5000 mAh, so the pack will turns to have around 30 Wh (stock battery has 26.4 Wh). EMI will be one of the points to check. theoretically all the detector's pcb has some sort of stabilizers integrated. these has to work the same way as my pcb. ... wondering why TDIs are voltage dependent? it doesn't stabilizes the voltage? Why?
  10. Hi! after a year of snorkeling with TDI BH I concluded that I can clearly note the sensitivity goes down ones the voltage of my battery pack goes down. Other conclusion was that even at 12.6V the TDI BH is noisy underwater at maximum settings: it reacts to the waves. Thus at the moment I really prefer to have just a stabilized battery pack. For my experiment I took a couple of 21700 5aH Li-Ion cells and a dc-dc booster board. the plan is to get "one hunt" battery pack.
  11. it floats like a cork! even with 6x18650 lipo ? try to drop it into a water and watch what happens.
  12. I know that most of you guys are not using TDIBH for underwater hunt. TDI is actually horrible for this task 'couse it floats. Youare really suffer to hold it under water.... Horrible, you have to spent a lot of energy to sink down the detector. Somebody uses the coil weight, but in my opinion it is not so good solution as it provokes extra wear on the washers and makes the coil not so hydrodynamic.... My solution is to use lead shots in the 3d printed plastic case as a weight. It works great. The weight is just clipped on the shaft and that's it. No modifications whatsoever are needed. If you hunt on the dry send, just take a weight off. Here are some pictures:
  13. This is my white's TDI beachhunter li-ion battery pack. Just have measured the power consumption. Detector takes 535mAh. Impressive. *** Trying to adjust TDI's buoyancy by adding some lead shots. The grip can take only around 200 grams, but it's not enough. well... it's better then nothing.... *** also 3d printed slim coil protection and luet it to a coil with some silicon.
  14. Posted files a while ago. If I remember well, it was just an adaptor you have to drop in the housing to touch battery leads, so no need to hook up wires with nuts and bolts... In other words, this will fit to any pack you are planning for the TDI. You have just to add the battery pack....
  15. here you have the *.stl file for 3d printing the battery adapter with contact leads. (like in the picture below) the part is designed for 8mm 0.1 thickness nickel strips. download here ??? whites_TDIBH_battery.zip
  16. Hi Tony, Can email the STL file, so you can 3d print it in your city.... ... And yes, it' quite tricky to fit 8 X 18650. Dropped this idea for the moment, as 6x pack has already huge capacity
  17. WHITE'S #TDI_BEACHHUNTER li-ion battery pack 6x18650 3s2p 11.1v 6000 mAh. The battery is not finished yet, but it works. Fits snugly into a housing. Plastic piece where the contacts are placed is 3d printed out of ABS plastic. image hosting
  18. Ok, that's what I was expecting: 8 X 18650 fits to the battery compartment. Thus looks I will solder 4s2p battery pack. Don't know for the moment how I will hook up the wires to power up the metal detector. Possibly just will make a thin adapter for the standard contactor pins. Not sure if I will power up the TDI with 16.8v, but maybe will use a sort of step down converter or a simple diod to bring the voltage a little bit down.....
  19. That's the plan! I'll try to add as much as the compartment allow me to...
  20. I thought to put 3S2P pack. 12.6 V and 5000 mah roughly ... Don´t want to modify the internal battery compartment neither to get the external pack. I always detect in the water (wading, snorkeling, diving). yesterday took my TDI BH for the first time at the beach and was shocked by its positive buoyancy, therefore just will try to pack as much as possible 18650 inside it. The compartment is huge, will try to use all available space. Hopefully I will get neutral or negative buoyancy. ... I mean don´t plan to use any battery holder, just made a soldered, not removable battery pack. As I said, plan is to charge it using external waterproofed connector. By the way I have nearly finished my waterproofed TDI SL when I saw that TDI BH is on the market.
  21. Hi Tony, my dreams about powering up my TDI BH by 6x18650 were broken by these "plastic tabs". Meanwhile I was waiting for the BH, got the job almost finished just using the SL: subir imagenes gratis .my future plans are try to please non-removable battery and charge it through the socket covered by inox bolt:
