  2. Thanks again all of you for your answers and recommendations. I am waiting for Nokta Makro Legend arrival in the market.
  3. Thanks for your answers, I am disappointed with Vanquish performance and I do not want to try all the time to find out what is going on with the detector. I want a detector to do what it’s says. I forgot to mention that iron bias setting is terrible. Do this experiment: take a small jar and fill it with coins, then in every mode you want sweep the coil over it and see the results. With low iron bias you have to dig everything and with high iron bias you will lose a lot of good stuff. The iron rejection or discrimination it’s not good especially with alloys. I have lost coins and jewelry because of that. Vanquish is a good detector for the beach (dry sand), medium for wet sand, and nothing else. I would say it is too automatic for me.
  4. Hello everyone, I am a Minelab Vanquish 540 owner and I have the following problem, when I detect on the beach the detector runs normal. But when I am in the fields or in the mountains there is a lot and constant noise. What it’s wrong? I would like your opinion.
  5. Thank you all very much for your answers and especially abenson.
  6. Also, why do you thing that Fisher-Teknetics are behind the times?
  7. In higher price (until 700$) what metal detectors would you recommend with the characteristics I mentioned?
  8. Great post Abenson, for low budget (until 450$) all-purpose metal detector what would you recommend? Consider a region with mineralized ground and many beaches. Also, I need excellent separation because of the trash, foils and iron debris. I am a Vanquish 540 owner and I am not satisfied with the performance. I totally agree with your review. Waiting your recommendation Thanks in advance.
  9. I am using both V12 and V8 coils and the result is the same. When I extract the coin, the tones are normal. The sensitivity is one bar down from the top. Ground mineralization, I am not sure, but I think it is medium.
  10. This happens only in the ground. When I take out the coin and I test it everything is normal. I use jewelry mode mostly. I use all metal only when I want to check if it trashes (mixed sounds, ferrous and non-ferrous and positive with negative numbers). So, what is the solution, to reduce sensitivity, iron volume, both, it is because of the ground or something else?
  11. I work always with low iron bias because I made an experiment which anyone can do at home. I put 20-40 coins (new and older) in a pot. With iron bias high the sound was heavy (iron) and the vdi numbers were negative (iron), but with iron bias low the sound was between brass, copper, silver and the numbers were positive (nonferrous). So, in case of a hoard with iron bias high you might lose it. Now, about the iron volume that I made the question, with full iron volume when I hit a coin although the sound and the numbers at the beginning are correct after few seconds are mixing with ferrous sound and negative numbers. So, I change mode to all metal to check if it is can or bottle top and the result is to get more iron sound and more negative numbers. So, what is the solution to turn it off, to reduce it or to search always with discrimination? But then I will dig more iron?
  12. Good morning, everyone I would like someone to explain how the iron volume exactly works on minelab Vanquish 540. I am using low iron bias and maximum iron volume and, in some coins, when I detect them, it is created a non-ferrous sound mixed with ferrous sound like when you are detecting trash. What am I doing wrong?
  13. Thanks for the information but I am not interested about 24Khz. Thanks again Rick N. MI.
  14. Very nice Rick N. MI , I am looking forward for your first impressions.
  15. Hello everyone, I would like your opinion and comments about “Golden Mask” metal detectors. They are made in Bulgaria, but I do not know something about their performance. How they are performed compared with some other brands, e.g., minelab, nokta, teknetics etc. Do you have any information or have you purchased that metal detector? Are they good or not? Would you buy that brand or not? Thanks.
  16. After some years of using Minelab Safari I used for the first time the Minelab Vanquish 540 on the beach. I think that Minelab must made a mistake in price of those detectors. Safari costs almost 1000€ and Vanquish almost 400€ something which should be in reverse in my opinion. Vanquish 540 negatives in contrast with Safari is that there is not such good separation between copper and silver. I saw tid numbers between copper and silver almost in same scale. Safaris silver target sounds and numbers are solid and clear. I select jewelry mode with sensitivity minus 1 or 2 levels depending on the EMI. Also, sometimes I used iron bias low and sometimes high to test the detector. Vanquish 540 is totally quiet and if there is any chatter from EMI you reduce a little the sensitivity and that’s all. It is very light, very easy to use and when you have a good target the numbers are solid and the sound sharp. So, you don’t have to dig for trash, when you have trash the numbers are going up and down and the sound is trembling. The recovery speed is in much higher level in contrast with Safari. The depth is amazing. I found 1 euro in 34 cm depth; I did not believe it. I went on the same beach where I had gone with Safari 3 or 4 times ago and I thought that there is nothing else to find. The results are in photo below. Vanquish 540 is much easier detector with amazing capabilities for its price. In my opinion is the perfect detector for coin shooting. For gold jewelry I can’t tell because I did not find something yet but in air test with gold has better sounds, more solid numbers and much more depth than Safari. We will see in the fields and on the beach.
  17. Thanks Palzynski for the infos. One of the following days i will go to the beach and I will tell you my impression.
  18. Hello everyone, I followed Chase’s advice finally. I withdrawal safari and I took Vanquish 540. I have not gone for metal detecting yet but I will tell you my first impression. It is a very light, easy to assemble and generally very easy to use detector. In contrast with safari I thought it is a toy. In my mind the comparison was created between a car 30 years ago and todays car. Technology is evolving. I did of course some air tests with coins and jewelry and as it was expected I saw totally different vdi numbers. I was impressed by the vdi solid numbers something that safari did not have at that size but I’ve noticed not a good separation between copper and silver. Safari in brass and silver separation was much better. Safaris Silver target flute sound is unforgettable. On the other hand, I think that Vanquish has more solid vdi for gold jewelry and locates gold jewelry better and deeper than safari. After a research I made on web I decited to work on jewelry mode with reduced separation and iron bias on low. Some guys on internet said that the recovery speed in coins mode is like equinox at 5 but with little depth, in jewelry at 4 and in relic and all metal at 2, something which I do not know if it is correct. Ι hope I made the right decision with Vanquish 540 purchase. Anyway, soon I will go metal detecting and I will tell you my impression under real circumstances. Also, I am waiting for your advices.
  19. I forgot to ask about Nokta/Makro Simplex. What is your opinion compared with vanquish?
  20. Safari costs almost 1000$ and Vanquish almost 500$. Why is there this difference in price? Maybe because it has 28 frequencies instead of 3? Also, I want adjustable threshold. I know that Vanquish has only faster processor.
