Diggers den did a youtube teaser about manticore training at an old church.  No manticore swinging thou, just weed eaters.

I thought that video was funny.  All that about searching the old church and then they were just mowing the over gown lawn for them.  Presumably so they could detect the grounds at a later date when the Manti is finally released..  I noticed they were wearing snake gaiters while mowing.  There must be really nasty snakes in the tall grass even in the city in Australia.

Go ahead and make my day!!

If you pull your order, that’s one up for me,... Yeeaahh.

You're in Belgium and I am in Texas, John.  I doubt you will get your detector any sooner even if I pull my order!  LOL

Since I don't need the $1600 I'll probably just let it ride.  But I will be very disappointed if we get to December 1st and haven't gotten any announcement from Minelab.

Do you think the Manticore is going to leak, Doc?  I guess they ALL will leak eventually if you take them in the water repeatedly.  I'm not concerned about the control housing leaking since I'll probably never take it in water above my knees.

  3. I don't know if the Manticore is coming at the end of November or the end of January.  But I do know Minelab is letting the Manticore story die.  There hasn't been a 'real' video on Youtube about the Manticore in action for over a month and talk of the Manticore on the MD forums is dying out.  People are starting to forget all about the Beast.

I'm not a terribly patient person and I have a Legend in hand to play with.  Maybe I should pull back my $1600 Manticore order until after it comes out and we see what people say about it.

  4. That sort of blows my theory out of the water, phrunt without a breakdown of hobby detectors vs gold detectors.  I did, just now, send an email to that Australian dealer to see if he is still singing the same tune.  I assume I won't hear anything until tomorrow U.S. time since it is night there now (as you know).

  5. I suspect the majority of Minelab customers are in Europe and North America.  If that is the case, planning an early winter release for a new outdoor product is insane.  "By Christmas" was a scam on us customers to manipulate us into not buying something else.

But, there is that dealer in Australia that told customers that he was sending in orders to Minlab and told "His" release was going to be at the end of November with shipment arriving to customers by December 15th.  I'm tempted to email him again and see if that is still his expectation.

to do the factory reset = while the legend is booted up click the power button once it opens the first sub menu then move over to the little man that is user profiles once on the little man do not push the up arrow instead hold down on the pin point reject button you will see some lines start going around the screen keep holding the pin point reject until you see FD on the screen then release the pen point reject button, you have now performed a factory reset of the Legend

holding the power button down for 30 seconds has never been recommended by Delik or Nokta/macro in fact Delik has stated several times to not do that procedure to try and do a reset.

At first that wouldn't work for me.  So, I did the other, holding the power button down then when it restarted I was able to do the Profile and the Pinpoint button to get the little revolving square then the Fd. I'll try and skip the Power button reset next update.  The uploads went without a hitch.  Anyway, I'm all set now.

Thanks, everyone, for you help and support.  I appreciate it.

I did mine with a gold paint pen, and I did my wife's in Orange paint pen the Orange really makes them pop, and makes the buttons even easier to see then the gold color, Initially i did mine with white and did not really care for the looks of white so I painted over the white with gold

I think that yellow really pops and looks good too.  I think orange probably works pretty good, too.

  8. I've got the v1.09 installed and also the Threshold Volume Update.  When they refer to "Resetting" the Legend after the update do they mean:

    1. Holding down the Power/Settings buttons for 30 seconds?  Or

    2. Holding the Pinpoint button Until Fd appears on the screen? Or

    3. Both?

UPDATE:  I think I figured it out.  I couldn't get the Fd to appear until I did a reset by holding down the Power/Settings button for 30 seconds.  I think I am OK now with the update.

you can do this to the buttons to make them easier for you to see makes a huge difference

used a paint pen, purchased a whole set of like 20 different colors on amazon for less then $10

Thanks, DSMITH.  I'm going to do that.  Nokta should send them out with those highlights.

Not in anyway making a suggestion here. This is just what I did in the beginning.

I spent a few hours setting my Legend up for US modern clad by using 6 tones and setting up an audio tone bin for each major coin type with the volume level and actual pitch that I wanted to use that I could remember in the field. I got to learn some of the inner, hidden menus that way too along with just basic navigation and the pitch recognition for each coin type also let me just listen first. I also just hunted in Park M1 with recovery speed 4 or 5, iron filter on 3 or 4 for many, many hours using the G=ground discrimination pattern which helped to silence my hot dirt. I always did a noise cancel and ground balance and I learned how to use the Ferro Check meter for shallow iron and mixed alloy steel targets.

Pinpointing a target with the onboard pinpoint function and then rechecking it using the best onboard pinpointer location for it also improved the target IDs a bit too.

    Have fun.

Thanks, Jeff.  I'll work on trying that as I learn the menu.  I've got to get these buttons painted so I can see what I'm doing first!!  LOL

  10. I ordered a Nokta Legend to give me something modern to learn while waiting for my Manticore.  I studied the manual a bit then put it on my knee while I learned the menu a bit more.  I noticed that you can't see the buttons unless you have a light shining right on them or are outdoors in the daylight.

Anyway, I tested it on a few coins and other targets and got a general idea of what was where on the ID scale.  I didn't think there was anything worthwhile left in my yard after being over it years ago with other detectors.  But I did uncover a shallow aluminum can.  I should have recognized that for a can but it was the only thing that came in as high as 45.  When I had the pool put in I discovered that the Mexican workers didn't throw their cans in the trash.  They would just bury them in the dirt they hauled in.  That's not the first can I've dug up in my yard!!  (No offense to any Latinos here.)  I've also got a lot of copper wires running around the yard for sprinklers and pool features, etc. that aren't too deep and I tried to avoid those.

I had forgotten how much of a pain it is to dig in this Texas clay when it is wet.  It sticks to your shoes, your digging tools, your hands and anything else that happens to touch it.  It took half an hour to clean all the clay off my Leach shovel under the hose.  I also had to maneuver around the dog pooh I hadn't picked up for a week.  LOL  I did find a few of my things on the surface that the dog took outside and chewed up!  She has chewed up expensive electronic things and shoes in the past.  Fortunately, these items were not too expensive.  She is off getting spayed today so she wasn't available to help dig.  Yeah, they called and she is doing fine after her procedure.

I think I'll try a lake beach next time.  It's easier to scoop sand than dig in wet Texas clay.

haha nah not scared in the least, just find it to be a waste of time.  He did the same thing after poo pooing the Equinox, but then wanted to flag and check signals with his Exp2 vs my EXQ800.  No need to waste valuable hunt time flagging and checking signals when you can compare notes at the end of the hunt.

Invokes the old saying "you can lead a horse to water..." you know the rest ?

I really have no problem checking targets with fellow detectorists using different machines.  We used to do that all the time on iffy targets just to get a different opinion of whether we should dig it or not.  Of course, the two of you need to be in close proximity or you really are wasting time.

I haven't seen the 2d screen separation of a small nugget with a square nail, screw, or iron object. They're in close in detection range, but can the Manticore separate them on the screen? This hasn't been shown by the reps, that I have seen.

rled2005, I don't know which video it was but on one of them where they turned a potential buyer loose with a Manticore in a field in Europe does show just that.  There was a target on the conductive line and another target on the same screen making a blob up in the iron range.  It wasn't gold but the idea was the same.  How well it does that with gold we are yet to find out.

That's probably going to take another 10 years .. ?

I've been very close getting a Deus 2.. I guess its clever to wait, even if its hard ☺️
Up to now I'm not 100% convinced with neiter machine.

I've been told that the Deus III will come with an automatic digger feature.  Just push a button and it will retrieve the target.

  14. I noticed there are some Minelab specials with free coils, etc.  happening right now.  I was just wondering what if Minelab runs a Black Friday special on Manticore pre-orders.  Do we all cancel our existing Manticore order and place a new one with another dealer to get the discount or free extra coil or whatever or do we just call our existing dealer and ask for the special?

  15. I'm beginning to realize that the best detecting location is the backyard of metal detector owners.  Just find their test bed and dig up those targets!!  Sounds like a good way to find coins, rings and jewelry fairly consistently.  LOL

I know I left a small gold ring in the back yard of the house we sold in Florida when we moved to Texas.  My detector was packed away and I dug out the spot I buried it but couldn't find the gold ring without a detector or pinpointer!!!  My loss.

That is certainly A possible solution.  I would rather not be gluing the controller to the search rod when i go water hunting.

    UtahRich -

Silicone is pretty flexible after it dries and can generally be pealed off a surface.  A little testing with a tube of it would be in order before using it.
