  1. Seller cancelled the Ebay purchase of the Nexus MP V3 and refunded the money. He said his shipping label failed to scan at the post office. I emailed Nexus about use on salt water beaches and got this reply: V3 can be used on salt water beaches, but not like the V2. Where the V2 is very easy for use on salt water beaches, the V3 is very challenging and it's therefore not advertised as a beach detector. -- Regards, Mark Bailey Customer Service Because gold detecting sometimes involves hunting on saline lakes (Australia) or in saline soils, perhaps the V2 would be a better choice.

  3. The MP V3 Nexus I ordered has a 24khz coil. The Credo has a 7khz dd. If the MP can find a silver dime in pile of pulltabs as shown in the videos, maybe it can find a nugget in an iron and lead bullet infested gold field.
  4. I'll hopefully be able to answer my own question soon; have a used MP V3 and a used Credo DDM on order from UK.
  5. According to the manual, the Nexus MP V3 can be used on fresh water beaches. The Nexus MP V2 and Nexus Credo DDM can be used on salt water tidal beaches. If the V2 works in salt, I don't see why the V3 wouldn't but better to be safe than sorry so: I would email Nexus and ask. They're quick to answer. Please let us know their reply . Thanks. https://www.nexusdetectors.com/nexusstandardmp.html https://www.nexusdetectors.com/Usermanuals/StandardMPV3UserGuide.pdf
  6. Ordered 3 3315C-102-016Ls from Mouser (I have 2 3500s) just in case. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again!
  7. I have a GP3500 with a broken plastic shaft on the manual tune potentiometer. Does anyone here know where to find a replacement? Also do the tuning knobs have removable caps to access the retaining screws like the GPX series? Thanks.
  8. There is no substitute for the old vsat with a mono coil if you're looking for conductive ore minerals other than gold. It found silver minerals that other detectors couldn't due to the dd coils.
  9. Another option is a gas powered drill like a Ponjar or an old Atlas Copco for surface drilling. The newer generators are relatively light and cheap and combined with a corded drill or paving breaker are much less temperamental than the gas powered drills. Air drills are a necessity though once you sink below the water table and they can be used as a breaker or a drill depending on the type of steel used. The kids running a tripod hoist and me on an old Skil corded rotohammer with a 2500 watt Coleman generator dug a 27 ft. by 32 in. round shaft in mostly volcanic ash and rock alluvium over a 2 week period trying to reach bedrock on a placer claim. The DEQ inspector found it hard to believe that we didn't hire an auger truck. The lack of tire tracks and drill pad convinced him. As it turned out bedrock was at 42 feet in that part of the claim as shown by a monitoring well 100ft south. We struck it at 18 ft farther uphill on the bench. A round shaft requires about half the amount of excavating compared to a square one. See the "Mining Engineers Handbook" by Peele (early editions) on digging placer exploration pits by hand.
  10. Looks like zeolite . https://www.mindat.org/photoscroll.php?frm_id=pscroll&cform_is_valid=1&searchbox=zeolite&submit_pscroll=Search https://geologyscience.com/minerals/zeolite/#Zeolite_Physical_Properties
  11. Just don't try to clean it other than maybe soap and water. It has fine details and if there's no reverse damage it's worth a fair amount.
  12. I tried confining my pet rats in a similar structure when I was in my teens. They continued multiplying and eventually chewed their way through the wall to freedom and began digging burrows all over the backyard. Hope those detectors don't do the same!
  13. Has anyone tried gold hunting with a Nexus MP V3 in heavily mineralized soils ? If so, I'd appreciate any comments. Thanks.
  14. Last article that I read about USFS grizzly defense stated that they carried shotguns and bear spray. They preferred to use the spray first, especially when confronted by a curious juvenile bear. We have lots of discussions about bears here in Montana. One incident in the Mission Mountains in Western Montana involved 3 rangers firing shotguns at a pair of charging grizzlies that got to within 15 feet of them before they were stopped. Another tale was about Lewis and Clark fending off grizzlies in Great Falls Mt. using long pikes in their 1800s expedition. A personal experience was finding grizzly dung next to a dead calf on one of our mining claims near Helena, MT. We usually brought along a rifle for protection against lions and bears (no tigers here).
