But what I have found is that the discrimination number sets where the iron tone ends. So if you set the discrimination at 10, any TID number below 10 will have the iron tone and everything 10 and above will have a non-ferrous tone. The discrimination point will not blank out anything below that unless you have the iron volume at zero.

Yes, this is a great point I did not explain.
Also my terminology of threshold is not in historical regards. But raising the discrimination just moves the iron bin. That might be a better explanation.

I ran the disc. at 27 with the combination of the iron volume at "1"

If you set the discrimination to say 2 or 10. What does it matter if your just coin shooting?

Nothing....... you can set it to whatever you wish.

I will add a little more.

Just recently a Dues 2 ended up in the hands of a VERY experienced detectorist. He noticed that the "discrimination" worked more like a threshold than discrimination.

Personally, on my last beach trip there was some very nasty Black Sand. So, I decided to run discrimination at 27. Several things happened.

First> The effects of black Sand were mitigated much more than running the machine in the factory beach discrimination of  "8"

Second> So every target that was deep and was difficult to identify, I switched back to the factory Disc. mode of "8". In three days, not ONE TARGET was identified in a different way or was identification easier. [it was not harder at "8" or "27" either]

I know three days testing on deep targets is not definitive proof.
But in my opinion so far, there seems to be no difference in detection ability where the discrimination is set at.  HH

Personally, I am not willing to give up on any of the remote's features because I extensively use custom program switching on the fly to do target interrogation and the puck's interface is too clunkly and lacks the ability for me to group adjacent custom programs

which scoop to use when there are so many shallow targets. For a while I used an old style french fry basket like we used 50 years ago

I have waves, all the time. Scoop choice is important. My scoops have more bucket>than bill.

Great job on the gold.  I should have gone down the coast an hour or two but ...

I know what you mean about the Nox being chatty lately.  I've had to reduce my sensitivity from 23 down to 21 or 20 to keep from going crazy.

Don't be afraid to sneak that IB to Fe-6 and Recovery 6 to get more sensitivity/stability.

Hurricane Kay was wonderful to me! Prior to Kay I was having a very slow year for gold finds but she changed all that in 1 week.
I know that Kay was not so good for LA County beaches but, as Strick pointed out, a few beaches down south had massive amounts of sand movement making for some ideal hunting conditions.
I think I hunted about 6 nights in the last 8 days and even though I encountered several other hunters, there were enough targets to go around. I found an amazing number of gold jewelry items but most were below 2 grams and nothing even close to being a "honker". Many targets were hiding in and around the black sand making them more difficult to find, even with my pulse detectors. On one hunt I used my Equinox but the black sand was making the Nox so chatty that I was getting a headache. My Nox's TID's were pretty useless as virtually all targets registered as negative numbers until I got them out of the holes.

I am helping a couple of friends who are getting started in metal detecting and, fortunately, they were both able to experience hunting in a target rich environment. However, every time I went to the beach this past week I did not know what to expect - I either anticipated the beach to be sanded back in or full of holes from hunters who got there before me.

    GL&HH!

Mineralization is definitely a factor. I can do the same with all of the targets in the video and with targets similar to yours and Deus 2 Goldfield will detect them even on highly iron mineralized ground. Bury them even 5cm and they are very hard to detect.

Not trying to hi-jack [just talking mineralization]

With the black sand I was hunting. Depth was severely affected on nonferrous targets. Also>>> Something else very strange was happening. Upscaling of ferrous, and down scaling of nonferrous.

When the target would not TID anymore, I was working on trying to identify what was in the ground. It was very frustrating!
With mineralization, Iron wanted to upscale, and nonferrous targets were down scaling.

I just could not make a call to what I thought the target was by sound reactions alone. I was not even close to a 50/50 call on the target.

This is frustrating for a beach hunter who just wants to know if a target is simply ferrous or nonferrous.

Now I know what you're thinking!!! How could the Deus do both, it does not make sense. >>>>Yes, I know.

Deus 2 could barely hit those targets in Goldfield in moderate mineralization. Maybe you can get an idea about how it does in 10 of 10 iron mineralization………

I tried to pick a site close by that had enough mineralization to challenge Deus 2. I must have succeeded since it couldn’t handle it very well.

Just to back-up the "mineralization" issue with the D2. Myself, Jeff, and Steve H were all working heavy mineralized sites about a month ago. Steve and I were Pm-ing, and Jeff chimed in, trying different solutions to get the D2 to perform at three different locations.
Conclusions: All three of us were disappointed in how the D2 handled Black Sand/Mineralized soil.

BE PREPARED, for several different issues to happen if you are running hot ground.
The only reason I did not write this up was the fact my D2 was discharging while turned off. I cannot be 100% sure my D2 was functioning correctly.  I will get get on the Black Sand again and will see if I can make progress. I was running the 9" coil too.

I wonder if this will work as well, or better, than the Gold Monster 1000 in our location? If any one has knowledge of the comparison, of knows of, or hears of, a review of the Manticore Gold Field mode vs the Gold Monster 1000 I would really appreciate hearing from you.

I think it is going to be a LONG TIME before that question is answered!

Lots of the gold guys think an Equinox 800 is formidable in the gold area. A better question might be Equinox 800 VS Gold Monster 1000?

Has Minelab not learned anything about battery tech since the abortion of a battery pack they put in the Explorer all those years ago? Look at the RNB.

I think minelab has learned. The Manticore has TWICE the battery capacity. [that 50% more power to the coil thing] I think the question is how much weight do you want to carry?  Personally, I do not have enough gas in the tank to hunt a beach for 7 hours.

The arm cup looks less bulk than the Nox one and unless it's made of something else might break like i have seen the Nox one's break

The cuff the looks WAY sturdier to me?

4 hours ago, Nuke em said:

All carbon fibre stem. Looks good but expensive to replace if that breaks. I think using that in the sea doing beach hunting will put an awful lot of stress on the stem. I noticed that on the Nox even with the aftermarket stems.

I have beach hunted for 25 years in the worst conditions that the Pacific Ocean can dish out. I have NEVER broken a lower carbon fiber stem or coil attachment yoke.

The Nox suffered from EMI issues when i used it on the beaches i go to and even on many digs too.

Yes, the Equinox suffered from EMI. Minelab has put a lot of effort into the EMI on the Manticore. Time will tell but I doubt it will be worse. With having a maximum sensitivity setting of 35 I am sure EMI will be found at some setting.

Just bringing this up as talking points!  I will not go out and buy one. A friend of mine has already stepped up to the plate. He will probably get his before many in the United States.[he always does] I should be able to do a salt beach comparison [watch for it]

Went out with no problems the first several days on some forested areas with no issues, just learning the machine having a good time. Got home (in the country) and I have massive chatter

    1. Take the coil cover off and make sure there is no dirt build up, clean well.
    2. You are doing a noise cancel channel selection?
    3. Try choosing different hunt modes. [ Try the Beach Dive program] to see if problem persists.
    4. Get further away from the powerlines.

like we can change the volume in disc but can we change volume in other tones? eg. say 3 tones, lower vol in disc, but can we do that in the other 2? i know that we can change the tone in other "bins" ( doah, I can't think of the proper term for the bins) but I love to be able to change the volume in each one. If not can one of you that are in touch with XP ask to see if that could be done in an update? thanks

Not to my knowledge. You can change the volume of the iron bin but out of the iron bin you are regulated to the volume control setting of your other tones.
You can change the Hz of each tone bin. This can act as a damper on volume. [low tone vs high tone]

Has anyone got a clue on when it will be available for purchase here in the sates??

I have the headphones and detector rod I would sell, then you would have to buy a coil. PM me if you're interested. Unit bought in April and will forward the receipt for warranty purposes.  Dave
