You can always try to up date the machine again if you have not tried that already?

    strick

Yes, I am a big proponent of reinstalling software if there are operating issues within the programs.

However in this case, with battery drain, this is a hardware issue.

The unit came to me with 0.71 installed and worked great through testing for a month. The battery drain has happened in the last two weeks.

    It will be going back.

  2. So this morning had everything disconnected and my machine was dead as a doornail. Not even enough battery to power on the unit. Thanks to all who double checked their machines. Will let everyone know how the return and replacement goes.

  3. My hats off and I bow down to schoolofhardNox, I could never walk on a beach with a PI. The trash digging would kill me. I used to do it, but the switch flipped when I turned 57.
Yesterday, I identified over 50 ferrous targets. With my soft collapsing sand right now I would be lucky to get each target out in a minute. That would of been an extra hour alone in digging yesterday.

That is a beach service I can not provide!  Going to have to stick with VLF and admire the brave PI souls from the sidelines! 😄

i have a set are you trying to get a set ?

I am trying to factor a few things out. It seems like my Deus is discharging at a fast rate when turned off. [like dead in 24hrs after the prior days hunt]  I had a pair of bone phones plugged in.
Just wondering is someone can make sure their machine is in that mode with the phones still connected and turn it off. Then see in a day is the battery has been drawn down.
    Thanks. Dave

    Dave,

Let us know what eventually worked for you, if anything.

    Working on it Hugh.
Now I can not be 100% sure my remote is working 100% correctly with the battery drain going on.

Dave, you haven't given us your baseline program settings so these suggestions are now just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks.

Yes, this was on purpose. I did not want to taint the gene pool. Also helps  me understand any recommendations I get more.
I did run a program yesterday that helped. Not sure I can fine tune that one any more.

First of all, don't be afraid to go lower than 90 on sensitivity, if necessary.  90 - 93 is like the sweet spot for ops, so if you haven't lowered it below that then you really aren't attacking stability.

The thing about Black Sand is Chase, it is a double edge sword. Not only does it cause a detector all kinds of problems, it is a depth killer too. I already know I lose depth at 90.  Anything lower and it will be painful.

To note I am able to run the Equinox at 21-22 with the same conditions.

Did you lower salt sensitivity before lowering sensitivity?  I presume you left magnetic reject enabled (default).

The salt sensitivity setting is irrelevant to the Black Sand affect, be it at 2 or 7.
Ya, it took 30 seconds to figure out the machine would not even function in Magnetic Sand accepted. So is has been in factory reject.
    I have the 9"coil too.

  8. Well my beach conditions are tough. The black sand here is pretty bad right now. I can not seem to get Deus 2 to shut up even running at 90 sens and lots of other adjustments tried. Anyone have any thoughts?  My ears hurt.

I continued to raise and lower the setting until I found what I considered the "sweet spot"---that setting where the chatter was minimized but the target signal was a definite "digable" one.  On New Smyrna Beach that day, under those test conditions, the "sweet spot"  was a salt setting of 5 for the gold chain and 2 for the gold ring.

    HI Dan
    Great info!
Did you try to keep the machine in S.S.9 and clean up the noise by lowering sensitivity?

The reason I ask, when testing on deep gold we found the machine had the ability for the same depth at 88 sensitivity. It was below this point with sensitivity 87 and lower that the D2 seem to lose depth.
I was out with my Equinox yesterday and will be today, but hope to get that D2 out by the end of the week and will test lowering the sensitivity with keeping salt sens at 9.
We had a hurricane out in the ocean and it is very rough here.

.it "should" solve the rubbing problem I have on my thumb knuckle. On the stock shaft/handle my thumb rubs on the bottom of the remote.

That is why I use a hand stop on the set-up I made. With the forces of waves, it has been an important part of my set-up for years. HH

Don't see a need to be specific... 🤔 I have used beach modes, relic, the sensitive modes, and just plain old general

Not my point, I do believe you like the "sound". The Deus has an incredible array of ways to set the tonal abilities of the machine. You have Pitch audio, which is adjustable from 150to 603Hz. Next is audio in Square and PWM which is adjustable from 100 to 933Hz.

This is important for customers and buyers to know.

For myself, I have picked square tones and raised the Hz up to mimic the sounds of the Equinox.  I will be using both machines and when doing so, I do not like them singing different music to my ears. I understand both machines will have their own language per say, but I want the tones I hear to be similar.  😎

Now that I have a Deus 2 I'm beginning to prefer its sound over everything because of the tonal nuances that identify targets more accurately.

Well?  There are lots of different sounds in many different modes available.

I just go for the most stable silent operation. I keep trying different settings for Salt Sensitive, Reactivity with tracking on or off while in the Beach Sensitive mode.  In short, I do whatever is needed to enable my Deus 2 to operate silent.  There is no magic setting that works on every beach.

OK, I agree with everything you say. I just thought you ran into something, a condition that made tracking GB perform worse.

I can personally say that on the Equinox not one condition has ever made me switch out of Tracking GB, while working the beach.

Where am I off base here? What am I missing? What’s the downside to a Salt Sensitivity setting at 1?

I’m sure I’m missing something here.  No old cavalry guy is more clever than the XP design engineers!  😆

It took us until the 3rd day to see that the engineers at XP did not set the factory programs up to the best of the detector's ability. I think an old Calvary guy might be on the something.

I will be back on my machine's next week and will be working my Deus 2 purchase.
Already have a few custom programs I am going with off the start. Myself, coming from years of Minelab I have a serious question about tracking GB on a wet salt beach?  When I posed this question to a Deus expert the response was, "it is personal preference"
I thought that answer was hogwash. I will be looking into the GB features more.

An interesting thing was when I changed from my behind the ear factory head phones to my Tony Eisenhower water headphones things sounded worse...meaning the iron tones did not sound as good

First off, Great finds! There has to be more there.

Remember, Tony's headphones have Piezos. They are not speakers.  You may have to adjust the iron tone to make them sound the same as speakers.

  16. Got my very durable beach rod set for the Deus 2. This has great features.

*Antenna run through the center of the shaft [Steves yoke mount has a hole in the center] . *Original coil bolts are used with washers on both sides.  *Hand grip with stress washer on top. *The pod can be turned slightly from left to right depending on which hand you want to use. Added Anderson arm cuff. *Cam locking clamp. *Also, no holes in the shafts except for where the antenna comes out.

I will be using the Gig's modification for attaching the antenna to the coil with adhesive and keeping water out of the antenna wire. This has already been tested by me. Both on land with and without antenna connection and in the water without any performance loss.

I would like to thank Steve from Steve's rods for helping me make a great strong Deus 2 beach set-up.
