  1. In regards to my post on page 4 on April 11th: I am not surprised to inform you that First Texas has not replied via eBay to my query on the excessive postage charges to the UK, nor have they replied to my email, details on the aforementioned post. Some way to run a business eh, I will never purchase an item from First Texas anytime in the future. It will be interesting to see how the customer support will be when these 'Limited' very prone to failure units need repairs. Regards, Rog
  2. I am looking for a Whites TDI SL schematic please. Would you have one you could send to me or direct me to somewhere where I may obtain it, e.g. download. Thank you, Regards, Rog
  3. Its only in the last few days I have been remotely interested (mention of ebay sale and reduced price) since when they were initially put on the market I made an enquiery and was told they wouldn't sell to me in UK. Regards, Rog
  4. Steve, I have done as you suggested. I'm curious as to why it seems nobody has asked pertinent questions to FT before now, well I cant find any mention anywhere, so here is what I've sent to First Texas. Subject: Impulse AQ: True details and clarification please. Can you please provide true and correct details of several unclear issues regarding the facts of the Impulse AQ detector. There have been hundreds, if not thousands of comments in forums regarding this machine, mostly conjecture and speculation. I am looking for some clarification please. I posted the following on this website forum and it was suggested I ask you directly and this I do here: https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/25921-new-aq-ltd-1300/page/4/#comment-274428 may I direct you to the 3rd post down by myself, Roger. Here is the text in full, plus I have attached the eBay shipping costs I have previously asked you about. I also attach a screenshot of your store where there is no listing of an Impulse AQ. Why is this? "In this advert: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134989348535 the asking price is $1,999.00 and the shipping to the UK varies from US $658.19 (approx £523.81) to US $803.83 (approx £639.71) . I have queried First Texas about the crazy shipping charges generated on eBay, but no response as yet. Can you help me with clarifying a few things please? At the start of the description it says “Introducing the Fisher Impulse Limited “; so this is the model that was limited to a production of a 100 and were mainly offered to ;experienced' users in the USA? Yes/No. I couldn't get one in the UK despite having a massive beach treasure now in a national museum in the UK. I read that the Limited edition had major failings: potentiometers, cables, waterproofness and poor battery life. So, if the item for sale is one of the initial 100, these feature failings will be present in the item from this advert'? Yes/No. In the description it says: “The adjustable Pulse Delay ranges from 7μs to 11.5μs “ but in the picture of the item, the label circling the delay knob goes from 7uS to 11.5uS, so where are the missing increments to 15uS? Does this unit actually got to 15uS and if so how on earth does a user know on a beach at which delay he/she is setting the delay to? If it does not go to 15uS, then this is surely very wrong! Is there a newer version of the detector where the issues previously mentioned have been addressed and rectified? Yes/No. Is this model for sale and how is it identified by name: Mk2, AQ Final, something else? Perhaps my memory fails me, but did the original/first lot of detectors actually have either LTD or Limited printed on the control box? Sorry this is so long, but it will certainly help me plus no doubt others in clarifying the above points which will of course help immensely in the decision of whether to get a flawed 'Limited' model or not even despite maybe getting one at a reduced price. Regards, Rog" First Texas, I look forward to hearing from you with the facts regarding your product at your earliest convenience; may I suggest withing 5 working days. Regards, Roger Howells
  5. Thank you Tony and Steve. I've caught up on the reading now. I see several anomalies with the First Texas website I have just been to the 'Store' section: https://firsttexasproducts.com/collections/metal-detectors and there are 10 models listed and no AQ there. I am going to contact them and may just as well copy and paste my questions I previously asked on here to them. I still have not had a reply to my question on postage. What's the betting I will not have a reply......

  7. Thank you Steve and Chuck. I guess Chuck that was the SPP the single winding coil came with. How interesting. Regards, Rog
  8. Chuck, I know what a Dual Field coil is. I own several TDIs:- Tan SL, 2 x BeachHunters, 2 x SLs The non labeled coil has one winding on outside ring. No winding on inner ring. The non labeled and the Dual Fields have a Whites logo embelished in the mouldings of the upper surfaces. The logo is situated to the right of the right hand shaft lug. So does that help now in my question to identify the non labeled coil? Regards, Roger
  9. Any ideas then as to what the single winding coil is? Regards, Rog
  10. Hello all, and thank you Chuck, mystery solved partly. The coil with label has two windings, inner and outer, the one without label has only the outer winding. The background to this is that I bought a buff coloured TDI SL plus coil from Centreville Electronics. On its second use it made a loud noise and stopped working. I sent it and the coil back to Centreville. I had taken a picture of the sticker inside prior to sending them back. When the unit and a coil was returned I was told that there had been a 'swap out' which I took to be either a full rebuild, partial rebuild or a complete sawp of the buff box and contents. Unfortunately I do not recall what the original coil looked like and whether the coil was swapped or not. I did ask, but no reply. Perhaps someone would be able to decipher/interpret the replacements label? I have just done a quick air test and the non label coil does work (1st time connected to the unit since replacement as I use the labeled one). The coil that was returned was without a coil cover/protector. That's as much information as I think I have; so what is the non label coil? Regards, Rog 1st picture is the unit returned to Centrevill. 2nd picture is on the returned unit to me.
  11. Well my goodness Rick, I had the same suspicion. Unfortunately I have no technical knowledge whatsover and cannot even solder. The coils would benefit from being tested with some apparatus maybe. I did look at pictures of the coil made for the Oz TDI which is slightly different to a Dual Field housing. But these two housings are identical, so that would rule out one being an Oz coil. Regards, Rog
  12. Weight discrepancy? I have two 12” Whites TDI coils that each accompanied a TDI SL. The one without label has a cable length of 176cm and weighs 495gm. The one with label has a cable length of 133cm and weighs 544gm. Neither are wearing a coil protector. They are the same thickness and diameter. Why would the coil with longer cable weigh less than the one with shorter cable? Both cables have Whites Electronics printed on them and are of the same diameter and feel. Why the differences? Regards, Rog
  13. Thank you OBN; I am reassured and I continue to have no issues whatsover with the 16V+ battery pack. Regards, Rog
  14. I have posted this question elsewhere, so please admin/mods remove either if innaproriate. I have converted a #802-7150 and #802-5321 battery packs now that hold 4x18650 batteries that can be used in my TDI SL in dry weather and the TDI BeachHunter when it rains. My question is this: With the extra voltage of the 4x18650s, will the original cable from contacts inside battery compartment of both models to the 2510 connector on main board be sufficient? Should that cable be changed? If so, what should the awg be? I have not seen this issue discussed anywhere despite lots of posts on numerous forums worldwide extolling the advantages of the extra voltage. Is it safe to use existing wire?
  15. The original poster showed the 3D battery pack that can be purchased via ebay. I have 2 that were part of a package of a TDI SL. They do not fit into the TDI BeachHunter. 16. Thank you Steve. Seems I am in the wrong part of the world to obtain some of my desired coils easily. But I have bought two Detech coils and they work very well and better than stock.
  17. Thank you so much Carl. The technician redid the connections and all works lovely now. I am very pleased with the 'improvement' this modification has achieved. Regards, Rog
  18. The original Threshold pot' was a nightmare, only the slightest of movement of the knob caused by clothing brushing against it caused it to go off the setting chosen. It was so bad, I am sure it moved with strong winds..... Reading online that a solution was to add a top mounted addition (sorry, forgot exactly what it was Vernier{?}), to the original pot' would perhaps not have been suitable here with heavy winter coats brushing against it as it was much more raised towards clothing. So I chose the other alternative to replace the pot' with a 10 turn one for better control, plus the one I chose had a lock mechanism (simple slider-see pictures in ebay listing). I thought I had ordered the correct pot from details of its ohm rating detailed online. Unfortunately, it hasn't worked out well so far. Let me expalin. I have had this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/355088556139 fitted into my BeachHunter to replace the original Threshold pot'. But there is no threshold sound whatsoever even when it is turned up to the max' and with Volume turned up. Have we used the wrong pot? Is it wired correctly? Could it be a dead pot'? I wont contact the technician who installed it until I have some opinions as I know nothing about these things. And perhaps, its the wrong pot? Hope you can help. Regards, Rog
  19. I wonder if we will be able to buy one in the UK? I will ask.
  20. I have the one made in the UK which comes in black and camo. I think the other one is made in the USA. I wont try to post images of that one in case it is not allowed as I'm new here or it's just not allowed? I am looking for the childs pushchair clear rain cover I have stored somewhere and a part of it has been utelised in other custom waterproof covers (not made by me as so inept at that type of thing). I have a BeachHunter, which is also being modified at the moment. With the huge difficulty in housing the SL into a waterproof box with waterproof pots and switch, plus mounting it, also waterproof conectors for headphones and coil cable, a big plastic bag will be the only option perhaps along with a good weather app on the phone (in Wales-UK:it rains a lot here). Regards, Rog
  21. I have bought a cover for my Whites TDI SL and described thus: "Whites TDI SL control box cover PLEASE STATE PREFERRED COLOUR/FABRIC CHOICE WHEN ORDERING Helps protect your detector from damage/rain/mud etc Available in Black Neoprene Camo Neoprene" If I had looked at the pictures (I think there are about 11) more carefully, I would not have wasted my money. The cover is as in pictures, but is certainly not dust proof or waterproof with all the gaps. Oh well, it wasn't a lot of money. I did write to the seller saying the item had failings and suggested improvements, but no response. Anyway, I saw another cover somewhere last night online and saved the images. Am I allowed to post the images here to ask two questions: 1. Do you think it will do the job of waterproofness? 2. If it is good, where can I buy it? Or is there another available or plans available from which to make one? Regards, Rog
  22. locator, I did indeed receive the 15x8 Monoloop from Detech before Christmas and have ordered another.
  23. Very disappointed that Thrace couldn't sell me a 15x8 mono coil as they were out of stock but their purchasing portal did not reflect that and I went through the purchasing process but no sale and I had a PayPal refund. So....I will try this https://detechdetect.com/coils/detech/15x8-wss-monoloop/detech-15x8-wss-monoloop-coil-for-minelab-gpx-gp-sd-series-metal-detectors to try to buy one. Without trying it, it may be a bit heavy, so will balance some lead on top of the 12” Dual field to take weight to 1000gm to see how it feels. The 14x10 is twice the weight, so that's not a consideration. The 15x12 is exact same weight, so that's a nono. The 15x10 is 1k or 1000gm. The 14” Mono is also 2Kg and a nono. The 15” Mono is also a nono at a kilo. So any recommendations? The 15x8 at 1Kg or 15x10 at 1Kg ? Now this is before I have even tried to place an order obviously. So I welcome your opinions etc. And still looking for a 14x8 Digger or Nugget Finder 14x9. Thanks, Regards, Rog Update 12 hours later. I have managed to complete an order for a 15x8 Mono on the Detech website. So fingers crossed....
  24. Just had a notification from PayPal to say that Thrace has refunded me for the 15x8 coil as it is no longer in stock. Obviously they hadn't updated their website. I have purchased from Thrace in the past, with no issues. I will go look again at what they have that I can use on the TDI. Still looking for a 14x8 Digger.
  25. As an update..... Detech had confirmed via emails that the 15x8 mono coil, the 11" and 12,5" were compatible with the TDI SL so.... I visited https://www.thrace-detectors.com/15x8-mono-minelab-gpx-detectors?search=15x8&description=true and went through the purchase process and paid with PayPal. Confirmation of payment by email from PayPal immediately, but no confirmation of purchase by email from Thrace metal detectors 10 hours later. My suspicion is that I wont get the coil. There is only 2 hours time difference.
