  1. Very good advice for the newer detector users. Learn your detector. There are so many variables out there that the more you understand what the detector is telling you the more good targets especially in tough ground conditions.
  2. Looking at the EQ 800 for another salt water beach machine. Have a Deus 1 but could never get used to it as a surfline detector. It does not handle salt and minerals [black sands]very well on the New England beaches that I hunt. I hunt mostly with an older CZ-20 which hunts deep as long as Bl. sands are not heavy. Saw something in a previous post that the EQ 800 had some issues with finding targets after digging out of hole. Could be small pieces of ferrous wire or rusted nail that the machine has discriminated out when the halo is disrupted.
  3. Thanks for the comparison. I talked with two other hunters while hunting the salt water surf-line today and both had EQ 800's. Both said that they handled soil minerals well and were good for small gold jewelry. I found an 8.7gm 14kt band today with my CZ-20, but the CZ does not like heavy black sands, otherwise a deep hunter.
  4. By the way , what do you think of the Fisher AQ? I owned a White's Surf PI [Gen 1], great with black sands and very deep but I ended up selling it. Very tough on a trashy beach!
  5. I hunt the beaches [surf] here in RI and south eastern CT right through fall, winter and early spring. Best time of year. You can never tell what will be brought up with heavier surf action. You start hitting heavies like sinkers, copper, brass etc., good chance of gold in the area!
  6. Thank You! Yes, what a letdown. It pays to do the research before the hunt! I do a a certain amount of old coin hunting at old home sites, and colonial cellar holes. About the oldest coin I've found is a 1723 British Pence.
  7. I would love to do some relic hunting in Virginia sometime. Like any other type of hunting ,you got to dig junk to find good targets!
