  1. I got one of the first TRX's from my local White's dealer and have had it out about a dozen times. Comparing it to my Garrett Pro Pointer The Garrett will probably be easier to use for most detectorists but the TRX has it beat hands down already for depth. Still learning all the features.
  2. If you do an internet search for the words "cotopaxi meteorite" you should come up with several news articles/photos of our Meteorite. It was an iron/nickel type and weighed 243 grams and was about the size of a large lemon. The Norton books mentioned by fredmason are excellent.
  3. When you think about it, Meteorites, more or less, constantly bombard the earth in all directions. They're just more easily found and recovered in areas such as dry lake beds, deserts, ice fields, etc. Most are Micro Meteorites and you never see them coming through the atmosphere. We found our first Meteorite "Cotopaxi" by accident while detecting for gold with our White's Goldmaster. It's quite a process to get your Meteorite examined and verified and our's was done by the Geologists at UCLA. It was officially named "Cotopaxi" due to the nearest geographical location that we found it, namely a Post Office here in Colorado. We eventually donated it to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science for their Meteorite collection.
  4. Steve, Speaking as a retired Federal Investigator from an Agency you've probably never heard of (DOD/DIS), might I suggest you make further inquiries for the information you desire by making a formal request through the Freedom of Information Act? At the same time contact your appropriate Congressman detailing your concerns and request that they make an inquiry as to the reasons you are unable to get the information you are requesting. I know from personal experience that when an Agency receives what is called a "Congressional Inquiry", they have to respond in an VERY expeditious manner. Call me personally if I can be of further help in circumnavigating Government Bureaucracy.
  5. Let's hope some lawyer doesn't try to take part or all of that gold. Remember what happened to part of the gold from the S.S. California and all of the gold from the "Black Swan".
  6. My wife and I each have a Garrett and used them since they first came out. Mine finally died a few months ago so sent it back to Garrett for repairs. It was long out of warranty so had to pay for shipping back and forth plus the repair charges. It all mounted up to almost half the cost of a new one but it's working fine now. I think the reason it died was because I was working a sledding area and got some water/ice/mud into the inner workings through the rubber on/off switch.
  7. Great advice, thank you. I've got a trip coming up to Cabo in a few weeks so hope to give it a good workout down there. No diving, just up and down the wet sand of the beach.
  8. In my "Day Job" I'm fortunate to travel throughout the U.S. and get to the beaches in California and Florida from time to time. Up until now I've been using either my White's MXT, Garrett AT Pro, or Garrett ACE 250 to hit the dry sands. I just purchased a used Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II PI detector on ebay and was wondering what experience other forum members have had with the Sea Hunter or any other PI detector for that matter? I'm guessing I will have a learning curve since this is my first PI detector and dig more trash than I'm used to. Thanks for any advice.
