You hit the nail on the head about field 2. I will have to try Park 2 more with a higher recovery and my normal slow sweep speed and give it more time to grow on me.

Thanks Steve. I meant recovery speed when I said sweep speed. I used a Whites Classic ID for years and am used to seeeping at a snails pace but not used to having a recovery speed setting.

I took Dean's advice about using higher recovery speeds in trashy area to separate signals betters. Two wheaties I found yesterday were in the same very trashy areas I had detected previously with a sweep speed of 1. I believe the higher sweep speed on the 600 of 2-3 did help unmask them. If you go from Park settings to Field settings you will notice the difference as well in how the signals stand out more in trashy areas. There seems to be sort of a lag time/longer signal in Park 1 than in Field 2. I have also been checking signals found with a sweep speed of 1 with different recovery speeds to see if depth is affected and haven't seen a major difference. I have been keeping the sweep speed settings low because I watched an air test video on Youtube showing a major difference in depth during air testing. I am not convinced that lowering recovery speed gives one more depth but I did notice more falsing on cut nails and bigger iron when I raised the sweep speed. Has anyone else noticed it and has anyone seen a difference in depth at higher recovery speeds on actual targets in the ground?

Thanks Dean, yesterday I went back to the spot I found the silver dimes, quarter, and IH's. The coins were all down 7-9" under fill. I then turned up the recovery speed to 2 and sometimes 3 due to all the fill and decided to dig tones 13 and above and found a few neat relics but then began digging iffy higher signals once more to make absolutely sure that I wasn't missing anything. Let's just say I dug a lot of junk ? I have found that with higher sweep speed settings deeper iron cut nails do sound off with a higher tone then when using a sweep speed of 1. The 4 decent signals were 2 wheaties and 2 40 oz tops. Even the pepsi bottle tops were distinguishable as junk because they were not smooth tones. I think these days people get so use to having to dig those if he signals since most areas have been hit pretty hard that they're not used to going a while without digging. I know I'm one of those guys. With the equinox I know when I have a good Target bottom line and I've only been out 5 times with it to a figured that out. I got my machine for $550 since Minelab offers a 15% discount and I'll tell you it's money well spent. I found more silver in the first two hunts then I did in the last 2 years and that was one of the reasons while I started fly-fishing more and my detector started getting dust. Now my fly rods are getting Dusty LOL.

Thanks for the tip Dean! I have been playing with sweep speed a bit but I'll take your advice and focus on it more. Now that you mention it, it did seem to narrow down the signals and make a good signal sound better similar to horseshoe mode. The detector does let you know when you have a good target. With other detectors I checked a lot of iffy signals and was rewarded. This one not so. I am not used to not digging most signals but with the Equinox all iffy signals have been junk and good signals a bigger aluminum top or a coin. It is kind of nice ?

Good day Happa, I based the counterfeit idea on the dimensions and how it is made of lead. I cleaned it and it made me think twice about the counterfeit claim. I'll post a pic later when I clean up the IHs. I posted a pic of the product from Amazon.

Last night I detected under a tree in a rain storm and still found a 1919 wheatie and today I used the Field 2 program with 5 tones, sweep speed 1, sensitivity 23, and horseshoe mode to find 2 IHs and what looks to be a counterfeit quarter. The settings found the pennies @ 9+" I also used the CGTime Golden Plated 3.5mm MONO 1/8 inch Audio Male to 6.35mm 1/4 inch Female Jack Converter Cable Cord Adapter (25CM/10Inch) to connect my more comfortable headphones.

Really awesome finds! Over here we have 200-250 years worth of finds in many areas and it is rarely a boring day. It must be incredible to have the opportunity to detect metal items close to 10 times that old.

Semper Fi! I did see the letters and numbers but can't make out anymore but there were some in the center around what looks like a primer. I said, "old round" because the tanks in the Marines that I worked on had a round made of powder with a cap at the end of it. I thought this might be a tank or artillery round cap.

It rang up as a solid 35 on the nox and I thought I might have found an old copper coin. Instead it looks like I found the brass from an old round. Any ID' ers?

I used baking soda and water to clean the coins since I don't plan on selling them.

Thanks a bunch Chase! It is so nice to have a detector that gets me back into the game. I lost the fire for detecting and took up fly fishing because I was not finding much anymore. It sure is nice to go back to the same areas and dig up silver ?

Thanks everyone for the amazing information and for taking the time to write it all down. Today I went back to the same spot that I had iron falsing and now I know the difference in tones. The main green is littered with iron too but there is a distinct difference in tone that was mentioned in your responses. The tone is higher and more abrupt. I walked into the spot where I found the 44 merc and got a nice tone and 24-26 vdi using park 2 with the minimum sweep and recovery speeds and a sensitivity of 22. Amazingly I got my first seated in many years, an 1872. There are a lot of signals with park 2 so I tried field 2 and it is awesome. There is less lag time with responses and signals are narrowed down more than in park. I hunted with field 2 and then switched to park 2 to see if the signal is still there. They are similar but field 2 is easier on my ears :-) I then found a 1902 barber quarter and later on an 1899 Indian down 9 or 10". The compact or watch or photo frame was from another area and was at a similar depth. I do not find much silver anymore and never found a lot to begin with so finding silver 2 days in a row has made me a believer of all the rave reviews I had read and seen about the Equinoxes :-)

Today I had my first opportunity to detect a site with the Equinox 600. It is a town green and has a section where and old house may have burned down or fill was dumped so one section has lots of steel and iron nails and other debris. I live in Upstate NY near Albany and places in the area have been pounded by very capable detectorists. I used Park one and began detecting. Even at a sensitivity setting of 23 it was really stable and I started off impressed. Unfortunately after several really nice tones that read 24-36 and turned out to be steel or cut Iron nails I was pretty disappointed. I had heard the nox was really good in iron but it wasn't proving to be. I turned up and down the iron bias and tried hunting in Park 2 but same results. I have never used Minelab detectors before but I have used several other detectors in the past, including Whites Classics and DFX, Shadow X5, Fisher F22, most recently an A T Pro for the first time and I didn't receive this level of falsing on nail with a higher disc that I did with the equinox. I am normally pretty optimistic and can figure settings on other detectors out pretty quick (I know I am new at using it )but I just wasn't clicking with this detector. Also even when I swung the coil at a 90 degree angle several good signals with vdi #'s 24-36, still sounded good. (Are there other setting to help with this than iron bias?) I like to give things a chance and try to learn them but the thought crossed my mind that I could sell this thing before I scratched it and I could just use the AT Pro that a buddy recently gave me ? Also the ergonomics seemed awkwards, it was rubbing on my forearm and seemed front-heavy. I detected my way over to the main green where there have been recent flea markets and where I have unfortunately found newer targets down pretty deep due to the soil but I figured, "let's see how this does on some deeper coins in an area with less old iron." I didn't expect to find anything old. I found a dime down 6 in, a bottle cap down 7 in, another bottle cap down 7". The depth was decent but not overly impressive. I detected the area in the past with my DFX and never found any silver there and had to work hard gor only a couple wheaties at about 6-7". I figured I would detect my way back to the car quick and I got a really nice signal that read 24 to 26 but it had a really full tone to it that sounded different. It sounded really sweet, unlike any other detector that I have used. I just knew it was a coin. I dug down about 6 to 7 in and at the bottom of the plug I noticed another dime. I thought, "Cool another dime but this thing isn't impressing me as much as all the hype ;-). I then looked at it again and it looked a little different. The pattern was odd, it had been discolored from the soil and it turned out to be a 44 Mercury. That made me smile really wide since I never found silver there in the half a dozen times that I detected there with 2 other detectors. I found silver on the first hunt and have decided that perhaps my initial reactions were premature and I need to keep this thing LOL ANY SUGGESTIONS ON IRON FALSING ARE MUCH APPRECIATED AS WELL.

Just when I started to learn more about the AT Pro my buddy recently gifted me, I received my 600 from Fedex. I brought it out in the backyard after charging it and buried a penny down 8-9" deep. I heard a good signal up to 4" above the ground. I went over it with the AT Pro and 8x6 coil and heard it an inch above the ground. I am armed and dangerous now :-). It has been a long time since I've had a top-of-the-line detector and now I have two of them. Life is good ?

I had the opportunity to detect an old summer camp and an old store cellar hole and was rewarded with some old relics and a v nickle and wheatie. The spoon piece was about a foot down.
