  1. why not? I'll try anything to learn whats in the ground, from the path of ace250, atipro, 800, ctx now this, to including going back and forth to single freq's, changing the program from LC to HC etc......if I could learn with certainty the difference between a forged steel lock ring and a coin, a tightly wadded tinfoil ball and ring, I'm going to try. Last night, 23 plugs, 4 "worthwhiles". my swing time is short and precious.
  2. Accidentally did it today on a fabulous 1840 site, then several more times, it seems, and feed back would be great... Those high iffy high tones when pumped (no discrimination) would give off that ferrous wonking sound on crap targets, remain high on good. The pics were 70s on the cross, I pulled some square nails that were also 70s, but grunted when I pumped the voil up and down
  3. ffs...wasn't going to watch cause the dudes wearing a fur hat...indoors... that said, shame on me. I give it a very rare "yes, good video", first thanks for not talking for 3 minutes about getting us to like, follow, subscribe. Over all good explanation and really a reminder of my initial struggle with the 3030. the entire section about stfu and go into it knowing its going to complicated was a gentle reminder to deal with it, and realize by 100 hours, the equinox will be a paperweight, or sold to finance coils....and I would LOVE to see a 4" round coil, not a compromise. back to the vid, that narrow separation of good targets and crap...did it with my 3030, looking forward to getting overmyself and finish the learning curve the vid is just how nice the 3030 could separate targets, looking forward to getting off my highhorse, and ignoring those facebook goofs whining about falsing 😄 I'm guessing a bit of patience and staring at the menu we'll arrive at similar discrimination(s)
  4. ok, my .02 as a new to minelab customer, was a garrett whites sorta guy IF you stick with Minelab and they do make a good product, as good as any company, when they announce a new..whatever, new metal detector, Immediately, sell your old one. ASAP after they talked about releasing the 800, the weeks following the "unboxing" and find vids, the Etrak prices dropped (so I bought a new in box CTX, two coils, harness, books for 1500) in the weeks following the release (talk..of release) and vids of folks diagnosing performance based on the box cover and grainy photos, used 800's dropped a bit..then when they actually dumped the 900s and still did the carrot dangle trick with the manticore, used 800's were going for 500 bucks, CTX's are way down as well. When the announce the release of the CTX4040 or whatever it'll be called, dump your manti's and prepay obediently!! 😁 it was cool they made the 900's take the 800's coil, I lost less money selling the two 800 coils (percentage wise) than I did selling the 800. just a heads up..I'll have a Manticore for sale when they do announce the newest CTX... I dont have a problem, I can quit needing the newest metal detector anytime. yup.
  5. Hmmm, interesting. what you running? general, high conductor or one of the other all terrain modes? I actually LOVE clad, its 100% financing all of my car washes over the years!! I always use the same booth at the same place...I'm laughing cause I am sure he's thinking who keeps dumping this filthy change off!!😄
  6. its a 1980 german 10 Pfennig coin! Says 'brass clad steel', but not sure what percentage... couldn't find more info on the web but rang good on the 800, but the manti is more like the ctx clearly. dont see a lot of those...dont see any of those here, but sure rang like a rusty gang box knockout
  7. so nice being in a group you dont have to explain what the group is about in detail you can see why I'm flummoxed.. now i'd have dug this in a relic site, but was in a modern (70's) local park I was using the 800 so I dug it, now I'm running my own ohio VDI chart, the pile of weird, odd, unusual had this in it. that red line might keep me from digging it... AT-Gen, sens 20 d+-2, fairly tight ferrous (didn't hear it till I hit the horseshoe)
  8. can confirm figured out a couple of the suggestions on my own, namely hit the pin pointer, then focus on that spot. Sooo wanted to run AT HC but honestly better results (ohio) with AT general and keeping sens down to 20+-2 going to hit a heavily park today, need more clad/trash/jewelry to learn this thing before wasting precious hours/permission on a very interesting relics site we have
  9. must...not....laff.... my wife..and where family are Aussie...oh, I"m sooo going to forward that pic!!!!!
  10. PLEASE bring back a 4" round coil.... I had a 4.5 on my atipro and WOW, I could get that in everywhere. the 6 on my 800, and the small one on the CTX allowed increase sens and/or stuffing it up in, around, under ,behind, next to all those great places stuff falls and remains hidden for years. or just go hog wild in spots where barns houses burned down or got raised instead of skipping them due to iron infestation midsize, I'm wanting to try a 10x5ish something, those longer oval coils, went with a few who've used them and I can see the advantages in covering ground and pinpointing, large coils...pretty much my love affair ends at 15, swung some massive 20something, but wth..too much, felt like those dudes with 52" tires on lifted truck and chrome 8" stacks..... but I would love a 4" for the manti for some precision work.....and lesson learned, I've always bought the big stupid coil first and wind up using the smaller one the most...c'mon ML, bring out the coils ffs
  11. My acquisition story+ thousand hours on 800, 30ish maybe on the 3030, and started reading about the mantiwhore, and thought, sounds interesting a replacement for the etrac. Then started reading about its magical unicorn properties and the near mythical impossibility to acquire one....literally 3 days into reading about it and laughing at reviews based on screen shots of an advertisement clip (remember those) a retailer with a decent rep on FB said someone backed out, shot him a note, he said there was a list he was waiting to hear back, I said Dude, I'm literally waving money at you, right now, called back next day 1500 shipped.... now 3 months later....yeah, its ok, it closes the gap on the 3030 and weighs less..dont think its 500 better than the 800...that you can buy used for 500 bucks. I do see potential in it, not happy with Minelab marketing ploy, but its my 3rd ML machine, I'm sure my tone will be different (see what I did there) after a hundred hours and a handful of silver. I do LOVE some of the features, auto backscreen, flashlight, the thing is a wee bit longer than either 800 or ctx, so my sweep is about 15% or so wider, that center line..I keep calling it the 12 line, definitely fancier than the 800 in its details, would like to see storable programs etc but...then they couldn't sell the newest ctx, eh? Just waiting for the new CTX 4040 or whatever it'll be called to be released and it starts all over... I DO hope they issue a software upgrade to fix some of the glaring problems for our manti's, mine will rarely see beaches, 99% of my thrills are midwest parks and early 1900's sites a sprinkling of mid 1800 sites
  12. +1 sold my 800, the 15, the 6, I had...whew...1200+ hours on it. Liking the manti more, still learning it
  13. fisher, I'll run it where ever I can. Only a couple spots so far I was able to crank it into the 30's without insane chatter. Took a bit to run at max, did the hold the noise cancel down, reground balanced a couple of times. its nice for bigger fields as we dont have a 15 yet, that bleed over at max will squeak a coin if you get close. 20, 22, about like my 800 for most of the areas. I'm not afraid to run it down to 10, 15. Whats amazing, to me on such low sensitivity, is that it not only finds things down several inches, but allows me to go where others obviously can't, or wont even try. Using my 800, 6" coil I found enough jewelry, and gold I scrapped to almost pay for it, certainly an incentivising push. Assume the Manti will do the same, cant WAIT for them to come out with coils...and so hoping its not going to be a comprimise, like the 8x5, I want a 6 round, or even 5 round. rocks trees around the OLD homesteads, Old ball park fences, benches, aw yeah, bring it.
  14. Noticed in the field yesterday, dug two clad quarters, stacked, gave a 98 vdi, solo clad quarter were 88/89. My 800 and CTX didnt "stack" an increase vdi. I crossed up the target before digging, was already bragging I'd found a silver silver quarter. Out of plug, separate quarters got 88 air test, stacked them, 98 air test.......back home, air tested in garage same.............. man, I do not like this. Anyone else notice this? high conductor, using custom discrim #2 Also, ran it a LOT on sens of 15, as I was assuming most targets were shallow, nice and quiet, got up in under around benches, fences posts etc, yes I run max as possible, on most machines, but this one...did not feel the need after half hour around a park. two faint ghost tones, no VDI, just cranked up to 20 and all was revealed revealed
  15. I've been calling it the Mantiwhore over on FB. Evidently, thats inappropriate...
  16. ding ding ding! Once I figured out the CTX, my trash digs plummeted. I still dig trash with the 800, but I'm 50/50 what it is, the 10/13ish hours I got on the manti are clearly showing whats down there...but like previous wives I just dont quite understand it. yet. ..yet this cuff button (not 100% sure, but 1812 naval possible) was a solid 17 on the manti, crossed solid, depth was the same on the cross, printed just a hair above the line, medium tone, printed solid, I knew it was a good...just had no idea what. Also, that place is loaded with square nails and trash from last summer to 1800... manti is performing much much better than the 800 for pumping the sens up, and filtering out chatter. I dug some nails, and trash but still learning the sounds, in and outs. I have no idea its already replaced the 800, and its so much lighter than the CTX, likely sell them off. nickel for size
  17. Was so hoping they'd offer a round 6 for the manti the 6 on my 800 is a stone cold treasure magnet. tiny plugs, crank the sens, just destroys old homesites, schools, churches, iron fences. but, will snag the 8x5.5 first chance i get
  18. Watched a few minutes of his first video, was too painful. Tried a couple of his other vids... merciful feck it was painful. Skipped about his second one, explaining the first one..like a joke, if you have to explain it.. That Uncle Fester looking dude is just another "content creator", Repeating over and over how many videos he put out before he finally got a viral one, shows exactly where his priorities are. He's a teacher?? oh, we're screwed. FCC has limits, yes, and he thought, what, how those limits are processed are all the same, no difference in a 200 or a 2000 detector? That he couldn't grasp the very mechanics of a metal detector and how that particular machine process the blob of EMI its dumping is quite disturbing really... a teacher? Once again, you could hand me a Stradivarius and it would still sound like a cat getting strangled. Not the tool, the user. I still have an 800(probably 1200 hours) , the Manti, and my CTX (maybe 400/450 hours)... the ctx rules, its too heavy, otherwise, i'd never have bought the Manti. The manti is twice the machine the 800 is, they should have called it the 1600. HA! That ID line, how it processes, the ability to screw with the various settings...its a poor mans CTX and lighter! just my .02 zinc worth, Minelab screwed all the 800 users... I see folks selling them as low as 550 frantic to get the 900 or the Manti. Imagine the dump we'll see when they finally come out with the CTX4040 or whatever..maybe they'll give it a silly name instead of numerical designation so its easier to rationalize the purchase. ...maybe... The Phantosmia! 😄
