The WS6 doesn't have backlight like the full remote does so that can't be changed, but you can change the contrast level in the settings menu and that may help. Also you can set the screen to Large Numbers display in the settings menu or by pushing the + and menu butttons (the 2 buttons on the right side) and hold them for 2 seconds as a shortcut to activate and deactivate Large Number display.
