  1. sorry, i have to disagree with that, but if one is a gentleman, it's better to know, and NOT divulge! ehe! he! heh! (lol) (h.h.!) j.t.
  2. whatever they have done, they have been forced to '"work around" minelab's patents.this may, or may not have serious consequences as to performance.only time ,and reports from the field will determine when we know to a certainty. (h.h.!) j.t.
  3. this is good to know! for years i hunted with whites equipment their main frequency was 6.59 kHz and was set this way for years back then, 70's,80's this was considered an ideal frequency for silver as whitey's detectors responded exceptionally well to silver.they eventually went with 14 khz so as to respond better to jewelry, and still retain the ability to find silver. the m6 comes to mind. it was a mxt derivative and one outstanding coin and jewelry sniper, and based on 14 kHz. i believe all the domestic makers went to the higher frequency so as to increase the chances of finding jewelry along with silver. i have a tesoro "mojave" which runs at 12khz,and is a jewelry fiend, along with the compadre, probably one of the best micro jewelry snipers of all time. 4. thanks! i appreciate the fact that you guys have experience with the different modes in the field, and are in a solid position to recommend certain modes based on intended usage. this is very helpful.as stated, my soil is mild to slightly mineralized so i can "get away" (so to speak) with a pre-fixed (g.b.) in the various modes. i "should" be able to get max performance out of the 540,and maybe "catch a break" at all the sites i, and everybody else have "croaked" over the years! call me a "dreamer" if you will, but i would surely "love" to just be able to "pop" some old stuff again! i really would be thrilled! (h.h.!) j.t.
  5. appreciate the tip..simon! ..thanks! (h.h.!) j.t.
  6. thanks jeff, and chase!...it certainly sounds like jewelry mode is what i should be using out of the gate! i will try all the modes, and determine if there is one mode better than the others.what type of soil in your neck of the woods jeff? i got mild to slightly mineralized here in new england. i realized before i purchased, that i could not (g.b.) but also knew from past experience with fixed (g.b.) detectors, that i didn't need it!. i'll be setting up with high gain, just shy of (e.m.i.) will also start off with the 12" coil. i am hoping to get depth,AND separation in these huge parks i want to hunt! (h.h.!) j.t.
  7. am curious! did i understand you correctly when you indicated that (s.m.f.) is basically for the beach? if what you say is accurate, then there really is "no" advantage to (s.m.f.) on land ,when compared to single frequency detectors?. one can get accurate i.d (at depth) with some single frequency detectors. this is known already, so one would speculate as to the "true advantage" of (s.m.f.) on land? is there one, or several, or if not,the question begs why would manufacturers develop (s.m.f.) to begin with,IF the technology is ONLY basically useful on a salt water beach? it is also understood that coil size, and microprocessor "'clock speed" (which you mention) are paramount in determining recovery speed. again!..taking all this into account what are the advantages of (s.m.f.) on land? as opposed to salt water? perhaps there are "hidden" advantages in software that only minelab is aware of ..lookin' forward to finding out! should be fun! (h.h.!) j.t.
  8. thanks for the tip about the jewelry mode! ..gonna be fun! if this thing gets me some sweet deep hits on older coins, i'll be thrilled! (h.h.!) j.t.
  9. steve howard has always been fair if you are honest with him! decent guy to deal with! (h.h.!) j.t.
  10. yeah! this is what i am hoping! i hunt mainly 'cooked" parks, schools, and ballfields! my strategy is to look for the oldest, and biggest parks, and other areas to hunt. the soil here is mild to slightly mineralized.maybe the (s.m.f.) will allow me to get deeper, and ferret through the trash better to score older stuff.minelab had this technology first, and it's priority protected by ironclad patents, so i believe its a good gamble, and decided to purchase. the price i got was a deciding factor as well, with what i believe is a "ton" of value in the pro-pack. (h.h.!) j.t.
  11. you can't! expect to pay more! i got lucky! best money i found BEFORE i "caught my break" was $449.00 (h.h.!) j.t.
  12. ohhh! (b.t.w.) for what it's worth, ain't no dealer explained this to me, it was "dankowski",who was instrumental in bringing the vanquish forward. he told me that he called the 540 the (equinox 540) because ,in his words, it's almost a "dead nuts" match for the 600.and the 800's performance. he MAY be a little "over zealous" but i certainly take him at his word.he needs no introduction here! i'm just sayin' (h.h.!) j.t.
  13. yes i am aware of these things.my soil is mild, no hot ground.i am not concerned about the rest as full boat multi-iq running gain just shy of (e.m.i.) should win the day, and the price point difference is significant, especially on a retired fixed income. i bought it to run (s.m.f.) so single frequency is of little interest.either it finds the goodies in (s.m.f.) or i go home empty handed.i believe it's a good gamble in the "cooked" parks, and other "burnt" public places around here, and if it it separates well, and gets good depth, then i'll be happy. (h.h.!) j.t.
  14. just bought a 540 pro-pack for just over 4 bills (new), incredible value compared to an eq600,or 800! i got both coils, wireless, rechargeable batts, coil covers, and bonnet.what's not to like? also, the guy "instrumental" in bringing the vanquish forward claims its almost a "'dead nuts" match (performance wise) to the eq600,or the 800.time will tell, but could be an "outrageous" sleeper compared to either ,or both eq's.he calls it the "equinox 540" no bullshit! (h.h.!) j.t.
  15. honestly don't know as i.like others have to wait until honest, truthfull results are at hand. i can say this, the vanquish is turning a lot of heads with it's performance in "junked parks",and it IS "short money" right out of the gate! apparently loves deep nickels. (h.h.!) j.t.
  16. that's why whitey is gone! .over priced detectors and they are still over priced because as far as i can tell, nobody is discounting remaining stock! (h.h.!) j.t.
  17. as you mentioned and i agree,i am super curious about "how" the (s.m.f.) performs in trashed parks and other "cooked" places. THIS is what's going to "make or break" this detector, in my view! (h.h.!) j.t.
  18. steve if what you say turns out to be true, then all bets are off, just go with any single frequency detector, why even bother with (s.m.f.) if there is really no advantage again, i am NOT arguing with you, as you make a solid point, and what you state "could be true"..i find that possibility kinda disturbing in that, again!..what's the point in buying it in the first place,IF that turns out to be accurate! (h.h.!) j.t.
  19. yup! that's what i think too!. now that they have their own (s.m.f.) circuit, next step would be an at version for sure! always keep in mind the objective is to sell detectors! that's what they are in business for! (h.h.!) j.t.
  20. send it to me! i need more for buyin' scratch tickets! i'm depressed! damn virus! (h.h.!) j.t.
  21. for what it's worth, i am seriously hoping the apex performance matches, or exceeds the 600's performance in the field, because if it does, then "all bets are off" and the garrett will be the better detector, and the better value. (h.h.!) j.t.
  22. i "sincerely" hope that garrett has something 'special" here and then i observe the "price point" and discouragement sets in, and then i " snap "out of my 'funk" and understand that in order to have a "world class" high end detector, ya gut to have the price point too! just wish it wasn't so! (h.h.!) j.t.
  23. i agree! i know about the eq 600's additional features i guess you could say, i am hoping the garrett does well in junked spots, because i really don't care for the minelab's build quality. i have never owned a garrett either, but one can tell it has a more robust build quality, at least to me it does. hopefully, garrett has made it fast enough to satisfactorily "hunt the junk!"..guys who will pay hard money are the ones i will pay attention to when they get it, and report on the performance. (h.h.!) j.t.
  24. hi carl! so in your view, is (s.m.f.) a better performer in heavily trashed parks, as opposed to single frequency? (h.h.!) j.t.
  25. yeah! i am hoping as well! i just want to see how the garrett hunts blistered parks that have been cooked for years and yeas, then we will find out whether, or not, it's worth two sh*ts!..just sayin' (h.h.!) j.t.
