Official Minelab Vanquish Ground Balance Info?
jmaryt replied to 67GTA's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
my soil is mild here in New England, and having advance knowledge of this allowed me to purchase the vanquish 540 with really good results.i love it's simplicity.no bull sh*t just noise cancel, pick your mode, and have at it! really, a pleasure to use, and I am revisiting parks and other public areas "spanked" many years ago with satisfactory results. I use my Tesoro Mojave for "curb strips'' with good luck too. (h.h.!) j.t. -
they deserve to be where they are!..both the equinox, and vanquish are top performing units at their respective price points, especially the vanquish.what a "crackerjack" little "sleeper" for the scratch. (h.h.!) j.t.

has anybody purchased "doc's new arm cup accessory" for the vanquish? was curious if it fits properly.i bought one and will get it soon.hoping it will improve the side to side "slop" encountered from time to time on the factory issued "strap"..seems well built and is attractive looking. jmaryt replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
excellent point of view steve! am waiting on fisher. don't know to a certainty, however believe that 'fisher" is ''still" in the hunt! wishful thinking? perhaps! never sell dave johnson and crew short though! ''tons" of experience there! (h.h.!) j.t. -
Minelab Multi I Q Hype?? Watch This

i agree! the 340 is the '"sleeper" multi-iq wallop at "bounty hunter" money! (h.h.!) j.t. -
Garrett Acquires White's Electronics!
jmaryt replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in White's Metal Detectors
difficult to understand why they figuratively just "sat on their asses" for a long time when they apparently possessed the assets to do something about it. i was "weaned" on whites equipment, and find it ''disturbing" that they just ''gave up" and quit! no fight left i guess! i'm just sayin' (h.h.!) j.t. -
Important Announcement From White's Electronics
jmaryt replied to snakejim's topic in White's Metal Detectors
all excellent points nobody really wants to admit it, but it's an "older man's" hobby, especially in regard to finding coins and jewelry, perhaps gold, and beach hunting, not so much.they knew what was going on, and refused to get involved. did not want to invest time and money chasing an ever shrinking market. the owner was aged ,and knew it was time to get out. they milked that cow for all it was worth, but the end was near, and they knew it! i am hopeful that all the "most deserving" personnel will land comparable positions elsewhere.their lives depend on this. (h.h.!) j.t. -
hey! he made his money! saw what was happening in the industry, and decided to bail. his time had come and nobody wanted to get involved with a "niche" industry that required a lot of money thrown at it to be competitive. perhaps at some point, a "major" WILL step up and invest in "sweet home" again! hope springs eternal! Silver Sabre - What Do You Folks Think?
jmaryt replied to Johnnysalami1957's topic in Compass, D-Tex, Tesoro, Etc.
or a "mojave" if you can find one! occasionally they do turn up,and generally can be got for around $200.00 or so. the 7" thin concentric coil is worth the price alone. -

Apex Unbiased Field Testing
jmaryt replied to Jeff McClendon's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
you are correct chase! the fact that minelab has been in the multi-iq game for a while now, and has demonstrated that they can produce in the field, along with the "price point" and the value the vanquish pro-pack truly is, was a "no- brainer" for me. garret's technology is "'unproven" and represented a much bigger gamble for me. i really don't care for the 600/800 iterations.i like simple, and "proven" technology, and the 540 has already been "strutting it's stuff" (so to speak) for a good while now. it appears that garrett has already "spit the bit" due to issues in the field. steve! all you guys made a difference i am positive! i mention tom, because i asked him outright in an e-mail what he thought of it initially, and whether he had a chance to use one, or not. he took the time to answer, and explained what i have shared with everyone.guys like yourself, along with others contributing, is what made the detector a "reality" i am certain. in my view, the "combined experience" of a host of talented individuals is "paramount" to the successful introduction of a detector to the general public, and should never be discounted in importance. yes! i am!..the best price i got on a 600 was $575.00 and i was fortunate to do that well!..the vanquish pro-pack set me back $424.15, so i jumped!. i was astonished at the really good 'build quality" of the vanquish upon unboxing. as you knows got the two coils, covers, recharge batts, wireless headphones, and rain cover.i believe the apex is a sharp looking detector, but as of right now, i wouldn't even think of purchasing one! super glad i went vanquish so far "popping" a lot of clad,(some of it quite deep) 5" or better, but the "hits" have been "dead nuts" on and could have been silver.the "thrill" of so many years ago is back, and the anticipation to hunt is stronger than ever! got tons of old "beat-up" parks to try this new money stick at, just need the time is all! ..just sayin' (h.h.!) j.t. -
Apex Unbiased Field Testing
jmaryt replied to Jeff McClendon's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
"dead nuts" correct! steve has it right as well.it takes a lot of time to accomplish, but zeroing in on a certain number while pinpointing a target is a special '"skill" and 'feel" with the v.c.o. on the detector. a very precise action, and well worth the effort. getting the high tone 'squeak" along with a simultaneous "number" discovers a "good target precisely" in one spot. it is indeed a "touch"" and feel" one learns over time in the field. before i purchased my vanquish 540 pro-pack,i suggested that "possibly",in time the 540 would be a genuine "sleeper" as a direct result of it's performance potential, price point, and what it has demonstrated in the field so far. tom dankowski's response, and i quote was rather interesting. He said" that 'he would "declare that the 340 is the "true" "sleeper" because of it's "price point" AND the fact that it is true "multi-iq". i tend to agree with this in principle, because the 340 has the "wallop" of multi-iq with none of the frills.just a simple straightforward design that gan get it done in real time! dankowski was instrumental in testing "protos" and bringing forward the vanquish.. he also stated, the only thing that basically differentiated the 540,and the 440,from the 340,is the size of the coil which is the smaller 8" coil. jmaryt replied to Jeff McClendon's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
me too jeff!..the garrett should have "wailed" on that barber at 8" absolute crap for a signal, and 360 degree iron! (w.t.f.!) the 800 nailed it with solid id and high tones! what's NOT to like? finding the goodies at depth in junk filled parks is what the detector HAS to do!..so far, the vanquish in 340 guise seems to be the better detector...just sayin' (h.h.!) j.t. -
Apex Unbiased Field Testing
jmaryt replied to Jeff McClendon's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
excellent point ! ya noticed ..huh? this thing seems to like deep iron!..that gets real old real fast in the field! it's possible it can be improved on in software!.or maybe sh*t crawls up hill! results in the field are what counts, the rest as the say is "crap!" SO FAR, the vanquish pro-pack appears to be the better value. i'm just sayin' (h.h.!) j.t. -
thanks for the encouragement! i don't get it until wednesday, but i am already "out there" in my mind scanning the "burnt" parks with it! have to be honest.in my 35 + years of hunting, i have always counted on the feeling of "'anticipation".i had it in both the 70's and the 80's,and it's dropped off considerably since then.perhaps the 540 can "restore" the giddiness i used to feel when popping old silver, and other old denominations...in gambling, the odds are "'always with the house" but somehow, i feel i AM the "house" this time around, and will do well with it! i'm sure it will be fun, that much i know, and that's truly what it's all about! lets hope this detector gives everyone the "edge" that has been missing for so long now in the public places.
