  1. Thanks Fred I spoke to the owner of Bunks and he confirmed he is still making them and selling them
  2. I need a pick and have been looking at Bunks Hermit Pick this thing looks like a beast and heavy does anyone have any experience with the hermit pick the good the bad or the ugly.
  3. went to link and it made it a lot clearer now thanks everyone that responded appreciate it don't quite believe Klunker's explanation about the aliens though LOL but you never know I have heard and seen somethings out here where I live that I cant explain so you never know
  4. Love your write up sure glad I decided to wait for the GM 1000 in my opinion it was well worth the wait even though I got a little ANSI towards the end have not had the luck that you and your partner have had yet but i am vary confident I will. Thanks for the write up
  5. Thanks Fred I did try to do a search in the search bar but it just kept coming up with the GPZ 7000and SD2300
  6. Can someone please explain the differences in a PI machine and a VLF machine in layman's terms or point me in a direction on the site if it has already been posted up some where just trying to learn
  7. Something else I have noticed about the GM 1000 is it seems to like to be swung pretty fast to me it seems if you swing the GM fast the clearer the target sounds when you get over a target I had to get used to swinging the GM faster then the X Terra 705 which seemed to like to be swung pretty slow but with the GM 1000 it seems to me that if you swing it seems like double the speed of the X TERRA the targets come in a lot clearer don't know if anyone else has noticed this but that is my observation, pin pointing also is really quite easy every target I have dug has been rite under the center of the 6x10 coil rite at the point where the shaft attaches to the coil just a little ahead of it which also took me a little to figure out as the X TERRA the targets were always rite at the front edge of the toe on the 5x10 coil the more I use the GM 1000 the more I am really loving this machine
  8. kiwijw I did read you blog now a couple of times, great write up by the way currently I am just using the discrimination mode on the GM 1000 and as per Mr Herschbach's suggestions I am running the AUTO + settings and no I am not new to detecting just new to Gold detecting, I have been using a X TERRA 705 for about 8 or 9 years now which by the way I do love and have never really felt the need to upgrade by the way, but where I live now and being new to detecting for gold I wanted a higher frequency detector more dedicated to finding gold thus the reason I chose to purchase the GM I have found a bit of the G with the X TERRA but like I said I wanted something a little more sensitive to the yellow stuff, but I didn't want all the knobs and adjustments to deal with so the GM filled that aspect, I wanted a easy to run detector with out all the head aches of adjustments and the GM is just that when I first received it I think I was over thinking it and even posted to my own thread I thought I got a defective unit the over thinking came from the fact that for the past 7-8 years I have been using the same detector the X TERRA 705 which has multiple adjustments and the GM does not,but it is still a learning curve just like any other detector, even if it is a small learning curve LOL Have only switched to the deep all metal mode once so far just to see if it sounded different then the discrimination mode the deep all metal mode reminded me of the X TERRA in prospecting mode in a lot of ways without the threshold hum if that makes any sense.
  9. Here is a photo of some of the things I have been finding just trying to show how small the stuff is no gold yet the larger bullet was down about 6 inches but it was booming in the headphones
  10. Thanks again Steve H again That's what I have been doing also but I just wanted to make double sure I was not doing something wrong
  11. He looks like he would be a card to detect with but I have one question in this last video he turns on the GM 1000 lets it do the noise cancel and then once it is on he starts pumping the coil like he is ground balancing it no where in the instructions does it mention to do that or am I missing that piece of info some where in the vague instruction pamphlet
  12. One thing I am really liking about the GM1000 is just how hard it hits on really small bits, have not found any gold so far with it but the pieces of bullet frags and pieces of really Small aluminum I have found tells me that if I ever do get my coil over a piece of gold I will hear it,when you do get over a target and the GM 1000 sounds off it pretty much stops you in your tracks because the sound just about blows your ears off if you have the headphones on, found another pretty large lead bullet from I think a 45-70 pretty good size bullet full bullet down about six inches and it pegged the G meter on the gold chance side but the meter is not what made me stop it was the volume and the sound coming through the headphones that stopped me in my tracks,I have not dug even one piece of iron with the GM 1000,there is no doubt in my mind that if and when I do ever get the coil over a piece of gold it will see it if it is not to deep The ground I hunt varies quite a bit as far as ground balance numbers I know this from using the X TERRA 705 I have seen GB numbers in single digits and as high as mid to high 40s and most of the time they were in the low to mid 20s and with the X TERRA from what I understand about it the lower the numbers the hotter the ground but with the GM 1000 you do not have anything that tells you what the GB numbers are but I will tell you the GM seems to run really quiet on every piece of ground I have been over so far I will try and take a photo of what I have found with the GM 1000 and post them just to show the sizes even though no gold, what impresses me is just how small the bits I have found so far are. Thank you everyone for your suggestions they are all greatly appreciated
  13. Fred the noise cancel on the GM 1000 is done automatically when you hit the power button that is the first thing it does if you hit the power button again it powers the GM 1000 down which I have done a few times to allow it to re adjust to the ground unless I am missing something in the really vague instruction paper I do not believe you can do what you are suggesting with out shutting the GM down and turning it back on, like I stated I have done that a few times to let it re tune to the ground
  14. Well that's a vary good question. I have been signed up on Arizona Outbacks Forums now for a couple of months now and still to this day I am unable to post anything over there or even look at any of the photos others post it allows me to sign in but that's as far as I can get I can view and read post but no pics or anything when I do try to post or open any links to photos a pop up comes up and reads you do not have permission to so after sending several emails I gave up I even talked to Chris on the phone and made him aware of the issue I was having so I do go over there on that site but i cant post anything so i spend most of my time on this site lurking and reading and occasionally post something.
  15. Thanks for the suggestions Fred I did re check all connections and batteries everything good there I also took Mr Herschbach suggestions in running with the auto plus and it does seem to make a huge difference with the GM 1000 dug up a few of the spots I marked, and found a small bullet fragment which was about 1/16" wide and about 1/4" long and a couple of small bits of aluminum foil that was rolled up into a ball about the size of a small BB the Aluminum foil was down about 3 inches and the bullet frag about 4-5 inches, its a new machine so have to take that into account and learn it just like any other detector, give it some time, over all I am liking what I am seeing, probably did not find those few pieces with the 705 because just maybe I didn't get the coil over them because I have found things similar in material and size with the 705,just goes to show you have to get your coil over things if you expect to find them otherwise you will not.
  16. Thanks Steve for the suggestions there are no power sources where I live except in my cabins that I have hooked up to solar and where I am detecting is quite a distance from my solar finally got Hughes internet out at my property so I will be able to post more often last night after I put the GM 1000 together the sun had started going down so I just did a pretty quick hunt just to get the feel of the new detector so I decided to just see what kind of hits I would get with it and just used some flags with wires attached me I have nothing but time out here where I live so I don't get in a hurry to do anything really LOL i am pretty laid back
  17. Well now I am a little confused and pretty disgusted The confusion comes from getting up this morning went out after getting dressed grabbed the GM 1000 started detecting was getting all kinds of signals on the gold chance side of the meter some were pinging the meter and others were 2-3 bars on the gold chance side so I decided to do a little test well what I found out is the GM 1000 is actually sounding off on everything like it is stuck in all metal and reading everything as gold chance on the meter laid my steel digging shovel down on the ground and passed the coil of the GM 1000 over the shovel and it pegged the gold chance meter on the gold side tried factory reset and it still does the same thing so that is where the disgust comes in I think I may have gotten a defective unit Can anyone give me any ideas as to what to try next other ,then contacting mine lab it does not mater if you have the GM set in all metal mode or discrimination mode it does the same thing in both
  18. Stated that fact in my reply to Shasta Gold Hunter
  19. Shasta Gold Hunter I was quite surprised by all the targets I was hearing that were hitting on the gold chance side of the meter,I will find out what they are tomorrow and I am well aware that just because they were hitting and pinging on the gold chance indicator they could be aluminum foil or anything else that falls in gold range but again it was surprising that I was even hearing targets as I stated previously I have been over the area numerous times with the 705,one other thing I did not state earlier I was also running the GM 1000 in discrimination mode when I passed the coil over a known iron object the GM 1000 never made a sound but the meter would show a vary high meter reading so you pretty much can tell from the meter that it is iron only in all metal mode did it sound off on everything it is exactly as Mine Lab states a turn on and after a couple seconds after it does its auto noise cancel start detecting no ground balancing or anything extremely simple that a kid that has never detected before could go detecting that's how simple it seems be to me
  20. Ridge Runner so far from what I am seeing in the GM 1000 i am really liking it
  21. Finally received my GM 1000 today from Chris at Arizona Outback great guy vary easy to deal with and always willing to give advise when I speak to him on the phone. Put it together and put a set of new batteries in because I wanted to charge up the rechargeable battery pack put the larger coil on to start Took it out to an area on my property that I have been over countless times with the X TERRA 705 and had never even got a hit with the 705 turned on the GM 1000 let it do its noise cancel and started detecting had it set in the auto plus settings at first and started getting hits almost immediately some were pinging the gold chance meter and others were 2-3 bars on the gold chance meter the GM 1000 runs really quite in an area that is riddled with hot rock kind of surprised me as to just how quite it ran, really simple to set up and just start detecting the instruction manual well lets just say not vary informative but I kind of understand why after turning the GM 1000 on not a lot to understand as it is automatic once you tun it on I played with the sensitivity setting on it and found for me if I backed the sensitivity down 2-3 bars it seemed to give cleaner hits on targets haven't dug any of the targets yet that were pinging the gold chance meter yet but tomorrow I will dig them up and see what they are, here is hoping there what the meter is saying, just wanted to get a feel for the GM 1000 first and it was getting late so I just marked the spots and went on, over all I marked probably 30 spots that I want to go back and check out, will post more once I have had a chance to use the GM 1000. .
  22. I hope them prices are in pesos and not US $ because if there in US $ I AM GOING TO ADVERTISE MY X TERRA 705 over there for half the price they are asking LOL
  23. Mr Herschbach I currently use a X Terra 705 I run it in the prospecting mode pretty much all the time I use the GB tracking on it. I have found a few small nuggets with it in the area which I hunt, when I set the detector up I ground balance then turn the tracking on I have seen my ground balance numbers vary tremendously I have seen GB numbers any where from single digits up to as high as the high 40s with the 705 in the area I detect I have also seen the numbers change dramatically with in a 20 foot area I check my ground balance quite often even though I run the tracking on it. Can you please give an opinion based on what I have stated as to which detector you think would be a better fit for me,I do realize the 705 is in my opinion a great all around detector and also I feel it is one of the most under rated detectors on the market. I do realize that gold can be found with any detector, even though I have found gold with the 705 I decided to purchase a detector more dedicated to detecting gold with a higher frequency which is why I did the pre order of the GM 1000,but I just do not know if I am willing to wait much longer for it as the delivery date keeps getting pushed back further and further In your opinion which would serve me better and I do realize you stated you have not used either extensively speaking of the GM 1000 and the Macro Gold
  24. I would like to know how it compares to the Macro Gold I being one that has pre ordered the GM 1000 am extremely tired of the waiting game. The only person that can answer any of those questions is Mr H since he has had the opportunity to use both. I am to the point of wandering whether the GM 1000 is even worth the wait anymore and am about ready to cancel my pre order for the GM 1000 and go with my original thought process and pick up the macro gold which seems like just as capable of a detector for gold Have contacted the dealer I placed the pre order with and they are in the blind about it just as much as those of us that have put our monies up to place the pre order. So my question to Mr H is the GM 1000 worth waiting for or would the Macro Gold be just as good
  25. meaning I do not have access to a library where I live
