  1. Thanks, GB, I thought you might be interested in this one. I guess they don't get found all that often. πŸ€” I wish it was in a little better shape, might have sold it after getting it certified. Got a 17mm coin holder coming for it anyway.
  2. I hoped @GB_Amateur would stop by seeing "silver", but I will invoke the Coin Master. 🀣
  3. Thanks Dave, Every time I think I have the find of the year, something else turns up. Costs a lot of money in shoes 😬
  4. Thanks, there are a lot of finds yet to be found, I'm not done yet. πŸ˜€ No need to be envious tho, as we say here "if you ain't looking, you ain't finding". πŸ™‚
  5. Thanks Deathray, It's certainly in the top 3 of stuff I found so far this year. Hunches, experience, and knowing my detector are paying off... ... Now to find something that is in great shape. 🀣 It would be cool to pay for all my gear and then some. I've found some priceless stuff but those are other stories, and I'm not selling those things.
  6. Thanks! Well certainly the buttons play second fiddle to the coin, but a dozen in one day... That doesn't happen often either. 🀣 I simply found a small hotspot. Honestly I'd have been happy with the buttons alone. πŸ™‚ It's a little bigger than a Trime, but smaller than a half reale. I'm grateful it had enough on it to identify
  7. Thanks Ghound, yeah, it's bent, cracked, and holed 😒 I was this close to finding "that coin"! 🀏 You can bet I'll be looking for anything else that might have been on that string or thread, in essence what wore that coin out. πŸ€” I'm hoping it was an Escudo or something 😏 for the reverse eagle to be gone like that it had to be wearing against something... ... But maybe that has already been found. 😬
  8. Thanks Colonel, "Virtually undetected" is probably right, but in this case the place is so big random hunting won't produce the same result. It's been detected before, but even if the others were there a lot, they either didn't have as sophisticated a machine, or didn't want to waste time digging the same junk over and over, or they just weren't that good at it. Chase and I have found that to be the case elsewhere. On the beach you can get jaded pretty fast by pull tabs, Zincolns and foil, but if you stop digging them you stop finding some really good stuff. That's been my takeaway from the good people on this forum and my ever-increasing experience. I'm glad I do beach hunting as well. It was nice to get a stunner of a small silver coin, this one is sized between a Trime and a half Reale. It must not have been on its side, I imagine I might have missed it if it was, but if something gives me a pretty consistent 85 I'm going to dig it, hence the iron in the trash. Some of that flashed a number in the 90s. My local places are starting to "thin out" because I hunt them when I don't want to be too far away from home, or when I'm waiting to hit a better/newer place with Chase. He travels a long way so I want to give him the best chances. The farmer said he's going to "rip" the fields this spring, so that may bring up some more stuff but after a while with no replenishment like a beach has, you have to get more detailed or you only get one or two things.
  9. Thanks VL, There's a lot going on here about a new detector, I may be interested in it myself someday. πŸ€” I like posting finds, hopefully it indoors others to get out there. I think it's more that stuff is where I'm looking, I'm finding I have to be a bit more persistent, take more chances on ID's, and now that I've developed a good understanding of the capabilities of the tool, I'm able to "see" more than I did. Silver is "easy". If it's there and your coil is over it you know it. In this case it wasn't too obvious but the D2 tends to give a one number ID on certain items. Older silver tends to ID lower than newer silver. The other thing that really stood out is that almost all of the buttons were giving the same IDs as the larger buckshot, so I had to dig that signal every time. A buck ball may "double tap" with the 13" coil, but so might a small ball button. At this site you have to be ready for anything. πŸ€”
  10. See above - you were closer than you thought! 🀣
  11. Thanks JCR, had to update the post, it's actually a Half Dime. About the same value and rarity tho.
  12. Welcome LDK! Already had the pleasure of your commenting on one of my posts, thanks for that. It's always great to have another authority on board.
  13. I'm just thrilled to have one at all! Mint versions of this coin are worth up to ~$100,000. Woulda been nice... πŸ˜… It's supposed to weigh 1.35g, but it only weighs 1.2. it was on a thread or chain, probably worn for years before it was lost. The wearer managed to completely obliterate the reverse, must have been very active πŸ€”
  14. Thanks Jim, It took a grid search to find it, I knew I needed to do that to get the most out of this spot, at least until they turn it.
  15. Thanks Doc, I haven't found a lot of silver coins on this farm, it was really something. I'd never heard of nor seen this coin before.
  16. Beautiful find, JCR. Always nice to go over a spot you've been to with something new! πŸ‘ Congrats, and a great story. πŸ™‚
  17. We've had some cold weather and wind and rain since I last posted finds, hope ya haven't missed me 😏 Last couple hunts I went on didn't produce much, I hunted some really tough spots with the 9" coil on my Deus 2, and did ok for where I was: Got a nice 1909 V Nickel, a few odd buttons, and a little compact that was gold plated on the side. Nothing in it. Today was a little different, I wasn't expecting anything really, especially after my last 2 hunts. I went to a field near my house where last year I dug a Draped Bust Half Cent, but really didn't find much else. This field is the "outback" of the place, it's a huge local farm. I'm so glad I have an off road golf cart. πŸ˜€ I'd hate to walk an extra mile or so just to get there, and back. Today's hunt was all about the 13", I was going to test a new program but switched quickly to my Relic program, it just wasn't the right place. I found one button in the first two hours, because I didn't find much the last times I came to this area I decided to grid search it. Ended up glad I did: I finished with 12 old buttons, a mix of Tombac, Brass, and ball buttons, almost all of the brass ones have "Colour" and "London" on them so they're almost as old as the Tombacs. I guess the ball buttons are a bit newer, one of them is squashed. I was hoping I would find an old coin, but nothing could have prepared me for what I found. I got a solid 85 in all directions, and thought I found an IHP or something, then this popped up: I thought, "oh, cool! Got a Half Reale!" I flipped it over after spraying this side with my water bottle and my jaw dropped. I expected to see good ol' King Charles of Spain, but then i noticed something, it was a Female? Never saw anything like that before. I saw the date, and the "IBE" and knew I had something special and pretty rare. It's an 1803 Draped Bust Silver Half dime. This is what it looked like originally, only 37,000 of them were minted: I think mine is the "Large 8" variation. It's a shame the reverse was completely worn down, these bring a commanding price. 😒 Holes also devalue. I couldn't believe it, yet again I've found something that tops most of the stuff I've found before, so this year is going very well. 😎 It wasn't just a surprise! Trash wasn't more than a small handful, if you want buttons like the ones above, you gotta dig every buck ball. πŸ™„
  18. Thanks for the info! As I posted just above, it's about 4.5", so 4.62 might be about right, I eyeballed it with a tape measure, and weighed it, it's 12 pounds. Used a cloth bag and a fishing scale. If it were a round canister shot, wouldn't it be lighter than 12 pounds, even loaded? I'm going to check on it soon, nobody goes to that field and I left it so it could get washed off more by the rain. And welcome to the Forum! We need all the help we can get sometimes πŸ€”
  19. Thanks for the info Gerry, Ceramic Rings are new to me, and I thought it might interest anyone who wants to wear a ring but not detect it with a pinpointer. I do get approached a lot, and just wanted my wife to be comfortable with it because she can't be there. I just took all my rings off previously but thought she might get a kick out of me insisting on wearing something. She really supports my hobby. πŸ™‚
  20. AI is going to be quite annoying. That's why I use an ad blocking browser. (Sorry Steve) My phone runs very fast not loading ads. I'll bet AI will be used to get around that as well, unless the ad blocking browser also uses AI. 🀬 ♾️ Tungsten Carbide is cheaper still than Titanium Carbide I think, but it's heavier and detectable. At least you can find your ring if you lose it. Ceramic Rings are fairly new. Guess AI isn't smart enough to understand that 🀣
  21. Excellent finds Deathray! Looks like you've made it up already in relics. Glad you're able to get out, and especially with your son. I trust he is developing an appreciation for the finds, is that rock gold?
  22. Exactly, but we got some females here, so just being generic. 🀣
  23. Haha, yeah! I guess I could modernize it to: "Happy Spouse, Happy House" 😁
  24. Haven't been getting out much lately, we had a lot of rain and now a cold snap, so I'm fiddling around with stuff at home between the Honeydews. When I go out detecting, I always take my wedding band off because It gets detected by my pinpointer when I'm searching for stuff in my hand. This got me to thinking, which I probably do too much of πŸ™„ but I always feel a bit uncomfortable removing my wedding band, it's a sign of infidelity or deception to some. I also know of people that can't wear conductive or allergenic metal rings, and others that check their pinpointer with their ring. Some may just not care too, but this is for those that do. I've always said that to get the most out of detecting or the most detecting possible, you have to make some concessions with family or you're going down a deep, dark rabbit hole. I searched around for non-detectable rings and came across Ceramic Rings. They are made of Titanium Carbide, which seems to be a plentiful and cheap material, surprisingly not detectable by any of my detectors or pinpointers. Ceramic is also is lighter than and as strong as Tungsten Carbide, and may not shatter as readily. Ceramic Rings come in black, white, and some fluffy colors for the ladies if they want to be fluffy 🀣. They can't be made to have a silver or gold color like Tungsten Carbide can. They can also be combined with other non detectable materials and be quite attractive. This makes them more expensive, up to about $400. Stones like diamonds or others cannot installed without metal so that's out. My wife asked me If I wanted one for Valentine's Day when I showed them to her, so she had this one etched with "Happy hunting", and paid all of $60 for it. Since then I've found you can get one for as little as $10 with no etching that is just as good as this one. They're light, comfortable, non-allergenic, and don't scratch like Tungsten Carbide. They're also cheap, so if you lose it and can't find it (certainly not with a metal detector 😏), it's better than losing your original band. I think my wife got a kick out of my doing this, it certainly seems that way. I got her some 14k ruby heart earrings to match a ring I found for her this year. Y'all know the saying.
  25. We are discussing whether we feel we are good enough to deserve an expensive machine or much to some spouses chagrin "Another one πŸ™„", but there also seems to be an undercurrent regarding not being up to jumping up to a newer and way more expensive detector out of suspicion that we might not match its performance, indeed like a rifle that is more accurate in a sandbag or vise hold. I've received a lot of advice over the years, and luckily have remembered much of it. I was employed right out of college as an Accounts Receivable clerk as I knew my fresh degree in IT and a dime might make me enough to call someone who cared. This was back when being able to spell "computer" without a "k" was almost enough. It helped that I was promoted to the computer department of a large company from the freight receiving desk earlier, but that's another story. The IT director approached me one day and asked me if I knew anything about Lotus 1-2-3, to which I replied that I did, writing Macros was something I really enjoyed. It appeared that some young "genius" wrote a large macro to transmit financials at the end of day had crashed and they wanted me to look at it. I fixed it, and one day the director threw the system programming manual for their IBM system at me and said "If you can write me a program from this book, I'll make you a programmer". I did, and he did. One day we were discussing the imminent bankruptcy of that company and he gave me the second most sage advice I ever heard: "Don't ever be afraid to take on something that you think is bigger than you, be it a job, a thing, or person". The reasoning was that if you do, you will push yourself to understand it and do it/use it/triumph over it. Quite frankly I'm pleased and sometimes amazed at how I've been able to do that even if I get knocked down or pushed back. Never doubt anything but your fears, even if you get knocked down or pushed back. Great thread LS, I'll shut up for a while 😏
