This will be interesting to me, I have not recovered any silver coins from this spot. I searched it a about 2 years ago or more with my Equinox, and decided it was just too difficult. I did randomly come across my first Trime outside of it. It was probably also gone over by someone with an Etrac or CTX, the iron may have discouraged that person as well, they left a lot of old copper coins behind. They could have been cherry picking. I'm really looking forward to the release of the HF2 coil, I hope it is small and elliptical like its predecessor on the Deus 1. I think XP has seen the one area they are not strong in... π€ π

XP Announces New HF2 Coil For Deus 2
F350Platinum replied to F350Platinum's topic in XP Deus II Forum
Looks like there are more hints that the HF2 coil is getting closer, XP just released a video with "Merrell", that hints at the coil: He briefly mentions the HF2, and makes the point that the Deus 2 is far more versatile than any other machine. I previously mentioned screens I haven't seen before but I was wrong. Corrected. -
Fall Beach Season Has Begun

Love the later Spanish coins, although I've never found one, just an 8 Maravedis copper. Yeah, that really old stuff sure is boring ππ€£ Seriously awesome find, no idea of scale, but I imagine it's a big coin? Congrats! Your two good finds are really good. -
Lower End Doesn't Want To Come Off
F350Platinum replied to Skull diver's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
I have a SteveG shaft for my Deus 2, one of the first he made. I noticed it developing spider cracks on the handle, let him know, and he asked me to take it apart and he'd send me the improved handle/cuff section. I had never shrunk that part, and when I tried to do it it was jammed up with salt and beach sand π¬ Took quite a bit of work to get them apart, and when I did it scratched the shaft the RC attaches to, badly. I believe I paid him for my negligence. π Regardless, SteveG is the best! π -

Indeed you're not, sir! π If you're not hunting in varied environments like me, the Deus 2 is gonna find everything you want, I've proven that for a long time from buttons to silver to gold rings in the fields. Indisputable. I'm pretty far away from getting the Manticore as reliable as the Deus 2. I find I have to turn all metal off sometimes, but at least I feel ok with that, it's a lot better than my old Equinox, but the jury is still out on it being as good as the Deus for relics. The Deus 2 Relic program with Disc IAR at 5 and an 00-00 notch is pretty unbeatable. I do plan to use only the Manticore at Myrtle Beach coming up, and I'm going to give it a go with the M8 coil on a "minigun" iron spot this week. It's not just machine gun iron π. I was surprised to get a couple of coins out of there with the M11 coil, I do believe these ellipticals have Magicks. π I use the 13" almost exclusively on the Deus.

Lower End Doesn't Want To Come Off
F350Platinum replied to Skull diver's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
This is helpful and a word to the wise, I too had this happen with a different carbon fiber upper, it got stuck at the top. Nothing short of a rubber mallet and WD40 got them apart with much resulting scratches. π₯² For appearance sake I replaced the damaged parts. I don't submerge my detectors as much as you do, but now I remove and wipe all sections down with ceramic car wax when I clean them up for the day. π -
I'm going to give Steve's suggestion a shot, I've tried cheaper stuff and got Plantar Fasciitis with the cheap ones, and Tailor's bunions that now have to be surgically removed with some really pricey boots. π΅ I tend to use the big coils and run 'em hot, so no metal is a priority. Got the Targhee II's down 42% from retail on Amazon, Doc said wear shoes with a "large toe box", and surprisingly 10 regular is wide enough. Right out of the box they are comfortable, as stated no metal. π Thanks Steve! π Edit: Wore them for a full day, and they irritated my feet so bad I have to return them. π₯² Back to the Muck boots!

Welcome to the forum Lt. Dan, I'm in Virginia, Northern peninsula along the Potomac. My finds are mostly Colonial, and I am retired and spend my summers at the East Coast beaches. Fall to spring is Relic hunting in farms, there aren't many Civil War finds here. I started in this forum in 2020, I had an Ace 400 and a Minelab Equinox 600. Bought an older Tesoro just for the experience of an older machine. This forum "raised" me, great people here, some of whom I've since met and hunted with. It's been a heck of an experience, I learned everything I know here. Consider one of the new machines, don't be afraid to ask questions and interact. We can identify your finds if you post them, it's easy. You can correct your posts by tapping the "..." symbol on the far right, and select "edit". We look forward to your participation! π

From what I saw and experienced of the initial default settings, the same problems occurred as with the Deus. Here I have lots of forged iron and aluminum, just not as many years of it as you do. π It took about a year and a half of doing what you wrote above to get the Deus in line. I had a trip to Florida right after I got the Manticore to the actual place and conditions Mr. Dankowski did his work to create his settings. I put that one on, took the detector to a local beach in my area, and did well with it. The beach settings are essentially wide open with no discrimination, I didn't think there were any real caveats to using them other than I would be analyzing everything and learning the tonal characteristics, a concept I'm fine with. π The relic grounds limit settings are still a bit of a mystery to me, but no worse than the preset settings really, and from an experienced person who has "been there". I expect I'll be increasing and decreasing some. I did just go over a spot I hunted with my trusty other machine, and only found more lead π . Then I took that program to a spot that was literally wall to wall nails and aluminum, and managed to get two old coppers in a very short time, using his ferrous limits seemed to help make the good stuff "pop". I think the best thing I've discovered with the Manticore is the ability to return individual modes to default, it's as good as deleting a custom program on other detectors. π I'm merely providing a "flip side" approach here, not disagreeing. π€

Thanks for your thoughts, Stupot. π I'm sort of "reverse engineering" my knowledge of the Manticore, but I have my reasons. I noticed your screen in the photo above is kind of similar to what the screen looks like when I'm using the "Dankowski" settings in Beach Low Conductor (BLC) and Beach Surf and Seawater (BSS). I used this configuration (tone selection mine) at a local beach and hit a 10k ring at the waters' edge at about 12". Shocked is an understatement. π€― No lower limit at all, and only an upper limit of 4. No fancy editing, just edit the preset. I noticed you have some lower ferrous limit, but not much. Don't the limits merely "push" the tones one way or another? Conversely, I've used Neil Jones' "Freestyle" ferrous limits when in the relic grounds in All Terrain General (ATG) with fair success, and his limits look like this: I'm only guessing that from his experience, he finds certain tones for IDs need to be "pushed". I use his "tone curve" for everything, essentially a straight diagonal from low to high, an audio setup similar to a Minelab Explorer, which I've never used π€ͺ I just like the different tones for different objects, purely personal, and kind of Deus-y, it eases confusion over what is what in different modes. I do think it odd that he really only uses 4 regions, 1-2 for iron. π€ This is a very interesting thread, I would like to contribute and learn. π

Thanks GB, I think the more rural members here would really find some great stuff if they simply ask the local landowners for permission. I am often pleased by the generosity of people in my area, and one often leads to many. However, if you get a bad reputation at one you may lose them all. Discipline is important. Farmers in particular don't mind digging as long as the farm equipment doesn't bounce around during cultivation and harvest, their attachment to even large tracts is mostly the reaping of what they sow. If you can move out some large iron items and rocks, they really appreciate it. Others are interested in the history of the farms they rent out, so offering them a display case that highlights the history of the farm is the key. I've pretty much got it down to a routine, hunt, clean up and photograph, post. Unless I hit the motherlode, it's pretty easy. Sometimes if someone has a great post of their own I'll wait a day or so to let them get the kudos and attention. I appreciate the encouragement! π

Ok, farther south. π€£ Yeah, one day if I'm not more interested in getting all I can in the limited time I have in a day, I'll do something like that, or with another person. You should get some substantial rain from this one π€

Thanks, do take my posts with a grain of salt, remember I have a couple thousand acres of private places to go, so the odds I'll find anything are pretty good. I'm retired so I can get out there more too. π Relic season is almost over π₯² they started liming the field yesterday, and told me the one I was in didn't need it. Beach season is coming early this year, not only did I have the privilege of going to Florida, I'll be on my way South again at the end of the month. I hope they get the fires under control π¬ I have sort of made it my mission to not only inspire others to get out there, but to try all kinds of stuff and bring it to light. At some point I'll probably stop posting finds as much - like the more senior members do - but I'm still on my way up on the metal detecting Bell curve. π€ I still have a lot to learn myself!

That's quite a haul, Compass! π A very interesting phenomenon that's happened to few here. π€ It could be as simple as a hunters' pouch sprung a leak... π The multi colored ring could be a birthstone ring, but I found one very similar: https://www.sterlingforever.com/products/courtney-ring This one is plated brass with CZ's.

Congrats Mee, That was a great hunt as far as I'm concerned! π You only went out for around an hour or so and got a gold ring? π Getting one that quick means more. π€

Thanks Ricki, Sometimes I shorten a members' ID, but I probably won't call you "EW". π Welcome to the forum. I always got a kick out of VL's posts, though they gradually became more wistful as time went on, I'm not surprised. While I don't know much of the detail of his passing, I always remember the departed by the best of who they were. π₯² He always commented on my posts, usually quite humorously. While it might see another hunt now and again, I may actually sell the 600 here, it's a great beginner machine and took me to heights of detecting I never would have imagined. It's a rare custom camo version... π€£ Detector Prospector is like having a support group and a bunch of friends in your pocket, except that instead of helping you ease your detecting addiction, it encourages you to do more. π I read your meet and greet post, I hope you will find Valens "Legacy" hobby as rewarding as we do. π

I'm not leaving "The Dark Side" any time soon either, Colonel. π The Deus 2 is a formidable monster still in the right hands, and it got there first π I'm hoping it gets even better with the "HF2" coil on the way. π€ For the most part I only found the lead on the fringes of my grid where I may not have been as determined to keep a straight line or was turning. I probably should have mentioned that above. I used flags and walked between them. My flags are 6' fiberglass driveway marker poles with white ribbon tied to them. Buck balls are small and easy to miss, I just wish I missed more of them. π€£ They do give a fairly distinctive sound on the Manticore, on the Deus they are not as enhanced. The ID positioning of lead on the Deus 2 is an Achilles' heel, but it isn't much better on the Manticore. Overall I would say so far that it's been good to have both, as anyone who does has written. π I just have yet to see specifically where each one shines, but while the Deus for sure is great when relic hunting, I'd tend more to grab the Manticore for the dry beach due to its ability. However, any submerged detecting will be hands-down Deus 2. Stay safe in this monster front coming today, we're just outside the 5% risk of tornadoes, but I have a feeling we'll be upgraded. π¬ We always get high winds in March.

I do too GB, at least in the old house area. π Talk about a challenge. π¬ The last one was an 1870 too I think. Best thing for me was last year's flying eagles, never found any before. I got quite a few V nickels in that spot as well.

Thanks! I wasn't shocked with the results, two + years of dialing in the D2 gave me every confidence the program I'm using gets the good stuff. π€ Searching again with another detector just cemented it. I've still got to iron the kinks out of the Manticore, I've only had it for a month or so. It did a great job in the iron even with the 11", I'll probably run the M8 in that spot.

If you've been following my posts, I've been grid searching this small hill, it's only about half an acre. Last year I got a lot of buttons and even some flying eagle cents, so I decided to use it to see whether the Manticore could find anything after a thorough search with the Deus 2. It took me a couple of trips to finish with the Deus, and today I took the Manticore there with the 11". It was an extremely windy day, 15mph with gusts to 25, typical March. The only saving grace was that it went up to 60. I set up a grid 90Β° to what I did with the Deus, I wanted to give the Manticore every chance. For headphones today I used this wired bone conduction headphone set with a built in little preamp, and the WM09, I clipped them to the back of the band. I call them the Frankenphonezβ’ π€£ Thing is, these bone phones are true bone conduction, you can only hear them when they are in place like the BH-01 backphones for the Deus 2. They were $29 from Amazon, all I had to do was charge them up, and plug them into the WM09. They lasted 6 hours anyway! The charge light was still green when I was done for the day, they would have lasted longer. They sound really good. I'm trying to find stuff that will work well when it's hot, and it was a bonus to also have these work well in the wind. They almost "put the sound inside your head". Of course I don't like having all that stuff hanging from them! π It wasn't uncomfortable, and the phones have an adjustable backband. I searched the area for 4 hours, going slow. What did I get? Nothing but one piece of iron, some tiny copper bits, and a lot more lead. Seems the Manticore loves lead more than the Deus. π All this proves is that the Deus didn't miss anything good. I'm not saying it is better than the Manticore, I do wonder if I would have found all the good stuff and even more lead. π€ Maybe I'll reverse the process and use the Manticore first in another spot. Or actually bring them both sometime. The day was not without reward, outside the grid, and in another spot I went to, I got these: A silver or nickel plated copper whatchamacallit, a "hot rock" that is either lead or silver, it ID'd very high, and knocking a piece of it out produced a glittering inside. It's heavy so it's probably lead. I dug two IHPs, 1870, an 1867 and a 1919 wheat. I was able to pull the 1867 and the 1919 out of a spot where a house used to be, It's machine gun iron. That speaks volumes for the Manticore.
