  1. Yes, both. A lot. I wouldn't say I'm finding anything "deeper" with either detector, they both perform well depth wise. ðŸĪ” I give this detector the edge with trash, the audio nuances are better. For the most part it felt like a good ol' hunt with V2, but I'll have to get used to minor differences, and adjust my technique a bit. Depth has never been a problem, at least I've never noticed it. I still nail dimes and other small coins with both machines at 10-12" on the beach in particular. It's probably because I keep my coil low and flat. Honestly I don't want to dig much deeper than that. ðŸĪ·â€â™‚ïļ Takes up too much retrieval time for other targets! Both machines constantly deliver Spanish silver, gold rings, buttons, old coins of every type, buckles and bits. I even find chains but usually they have charms or are crap. 😅 I'm confident that if it's there and I can get my coil over it, it is mine. I'd buy a PI and suffer the slings and arrows of "digging it all" if I wanted more depth. 😏 Someone recently asked me directly whether I prefer one over the other, and my response was something like "It's like having two pairs of really good shoes, you wear one today and the other tomorrow." 🙂 Keeps the blisters away. 🍀
  2. Great hunt mn, the Ankh does look like gold, hope it is. Yeah, and I was just photographing the Heron that was grabbing the fish these two were catching in Florida last year... ðŸĪ” 😏 Your post made me think of it for some reason! ðŸĪ·â€â™‚ïļ
  3. Yesterday was a long day, but I finally got a chance to use V4.1 for a whole day. Got there around 9 and left at 4. The first thing I did was return the old gold ring to the landowner, he was very happy and grateful to receive a priceless relic from the first settlers to the area. He is not related to them but does maintain the farm historically, definitely a labor of love. It's always a good idea to photograph the person you give something to: He's a great guy and said I'm always welcome there. I went to the spot in this huge farm where I found some cool stuff a couple weeks ago with Chase to test out the rig. Actually remembered my WSA-ST headphones too! 😅 I was using my tried and true relic program, but there are things I'll have to get used to It was kind of a chilly day, never really got sunny but my hands didn't suffer much. It got up to almost 60 with a decent breeze. One of my first targets was this, a lovely 71 I had to dig almost 2 feet for: Oh well, it is a ring. 😏 A huge iron one. After that I stopped chasing good sounding targets that were that deep, after about 12" down I was sure they were iron. Got a big "D" buckle about the same size that went in the trash when I got back, I knew what it was but dug it anyway. The D2 now makes a very loud sound when hitting deep iron especially with AR at 7, not always an iron tone, but if you turn it will often go all iron. If it persists as a loud high tone, dig a bit but quit if you go too deep. ðŸĪŠ That's about it for that. Not a great thing, but you can work around it. As I recall V2 did similar stuff, but rarely. I had lots of great sounding junk, but it was all the usual stuff, so it didn't concern me: Buck balls, shotgun shells, big pieces of lead and copper, a copper bolt. A couple of those annoying washers. A few small pieces of iron got me but I probably didn't switch swing direction, I'll just have to make sure I do. There is a lot of old forged iron in this spot. In almost 8 hours the MI-6 only failed to connect about 5 times, and didn't reset the machine. There may be a real issue with the 9" FMF now, @NCtoad reported a similar issue in his recent post where shutting off the MI-6 will cause the detector to soft reboot, coming back showing the coil as dead when you know it isn't. ðŸĪ” This did not happen with the 13" coil. I got some nice old stuff, 8 buttons of various types, an octagonal buckle, what might be a kettle point, an 1880s IHP I found on my way to the spot, a silver plated flatware handle, two halves of something brass that if it's a coin I will probably never know. ðŸĪ·â€â™‚ïļ It's too thin and caked with silt to do much with, maybe I'll tumble it. The last thing is really cool, a large lead bale seal with a winged shield that has a cross on it: I tried to look it up but the website for identification is down. ðŸĪ·â€â™‚ïļ I'm pretty sure it is from England, this farm dates back to the mid 1600s when the family that lost the ring in its 3d generation came up from Jamestown. The back is connected to the front so it will break when opened the way it did. Overall I'm glad V4.1 isn't going to make me jump through too many hoops with my old programs, my Beach program is good for identifying relic iron like it was, should have used it more. 😅 I'm excited to try new stuff with the new features. If anyone else is having problems with the 9", please put something here, it will no doubt be compiled into an "issues" thread. 🙂 So far it's only when the MI-6 disconnects. 🍀
  4. Nice hunt, NC! That's a great lake spot. Guess you don't have much competition, I'll be right over. ðŸĪĢ Well now, looks like it isn't my coil but the software, doesn't it? ðŸĪ” 😎 Yeah, that is exactly the trouble I had with the 9" under V4.0, haven't tried it with V4.1. I don't have that problem with the 13". The MI-6 failed to connect 5 times today in almost 8 hours in the field, but that was it, about how it used to be under V2. I'll post my stuff tomorrow. Got some interesting stuff but I'm not gonna steal your thunder. 😎 You got some really nice old stuff there, I didn't do anywhere near as good! 🍀
  5. Beautiful finds, Hamid. 🏆 Did you find them on land or in the water?
  6. I'll go with Recon, Joe 😏 yeah, that's it. 😅 I'm going to put a "stupid box" in my truck. It was kinda fun to detect old school, but I'd rather I had the right stuff 🙂
  7. Don't I know it, Chuck! 40+ years of IT, started with punch cards in 1979. ðŸ˜ĩ I figured I'd not screw up 6 years in now detecting ðŸĪ·â€â™‚ïļ But here we are! ðŸĪĢ
  8. Thanks Jeff, lesson learned. 🙂 I really felt like an amateur "beep" detectorist, luckily there weren't many people there. 😅 I'll have to find headphones wired for both detectors, easy enough for the Manticore, I have 3 sets so it's a cinch to keep one set in the truck. 👍 The Deus 2 not so much, but at least with V4.1 I can keep a WSA II set handy. 🙂
  9. I'm considering that! That was @Joe D.'s first comment when I got back ðŸĪĢ tough to keep stuff charged, but the headphones especially hold a charge a long time. ðŸĪ”
  10. Thanks UKD2, 😅 I've used the XY screen in the past, but prefer audio nuances to visual cues. ðŸĪĢ Guess I'll have to try that, did it with the Manticore to skip bottle caps. With BC at 5 on the Deus I'm not going to dig them anyway. ðŸĪ·â€â™‚ïļ Unfortunately the nearest metal detecting dealer is about 60 miles away, proper headphones weren't an option. 🙄 Glad I had my scoop at least, but the titanium one isn't as good in the rocks and pebbles. ðŸŦĪ
  11. Like my post in the Deus 2 forum, I spent the rest of the afternoon water hunting sans headphones. ðŸ˜ĩ I wanted to see after making that unfortunate mistake if "soldiering on" would work out for me. My Tony Eisenhower headphones were comfortably at home. 🙄 I am as reluctant to post this as with my other hunt Wednesday. 😎 I didn't photograph my detector on the beach, I have a sticker to cover the speaker to keep water out but had to remove it for this hunt. At least the EMI wasn't bad in the water, but the construction noise, loud cars and motorcycles (It got up to 85), and the explosions from the Naval Weapons center made things a bit more difficult. 😏 Some guy kept going past plowing a wake in a party boat to make things worse 🙄 But again I made the best of it, and found some pretty interesting stuff. It was hard to hear the speaker, and impossible when the unit was submerged. If I went out too far pinpointing was difficult if I scooped too deep a hole. Got a Chinese knockoff Smartwatch, what looks like a very old handle for a magnifying glass that may be silver: It's thin and cracked on the sides but I was able to get the sand out. No hallmarks so it may be tin or something, it appears to have a monogram. $1.54 in coins, nothing particularly old, but I did find two Swiss 10 Rappen coins, one of which is over 100 years old: This coin is worth US$.13, apparently Switzerland has a strong economy. ðŸĪ” I find it fascinating they have minted this coin since 1879! ðŸĪŊ They still do. Not much trash, wire, aluminum shards and copper, one stainless wire bolt. Again it was hard to hear whispers with all the noise and the waves covering the speaker from time to time. I was in the water for 3.5 hours. The ring looked nice, but it has no hallmarks and is probably Tungsten Carbide, it sticks to a magnet. There is a lot of interesting stuff here! The next day my yard looked like this toward sunset, a front came through and it went from 72 in the morning to 28 overnight. ðŸĨķ Here's a backyard shot. ðŸŦĪ Guess I'll have to wait a few days before I can get out again! I'll try really hard not to forget my headphones. ðŸĪ”ðŸĪĢ 🍀
  12. I've been trying to decide whether to post this or not, but reality is king with detecting. 😅 I'll take the hit 😏 On Wednesday I had some morning stuff to do so I didn't get out until about 11 for the hour long drive to my local large beach. The forecast high temperature was 85, but the water was still in the 40s, so I thought I'd give the D2 a go in the dry with the 13". About 3/4 of the way there I realized I forgot to bring my headphones! 🙄 There was no going back, I wanted to catch low tide. It also meant I wouldn't have the power of the MI-6, and wouldn't be able to see how many times it didn't connect, I don't like using it standalone. ðŸ˜ĩ For the first hour and a half I hunted with the speaker. It's not that loud, and there was a lot of construction going on. Really strong EMI kept popping up at intervals. There are Wi-Fi and Satellite antennas all over the place, and to make things worse, the Naval Warfare unit was testing. ðŸ˜ĩ Just about everything was against me. Noise, EMI, and loud explosions. 😅 As best as I can tell, my Beach program worked well, the dry is pretty clear of targets this time of year, mostly just junk. The 13" is surprising, however. In that short time and with all the handicaps I managed to get some coins and jewelry: .37 cents, an earring, a small charm that is sadly not gold. One of the pennies and the earring came from "spearfishing" the waters' edge, the coin is a 1951 wheat. I didn't dig a lot of trash either. However, without headphones it's hard to hear the tonal nuances that would have otherwise identified this junk, and definitely not the whispers of deep targets, although the dimes were all deep. Lifting helped with the big stuff. Don't forget your headphones. ðŸĪĢ 🍀
  13. Hey NC, It's 24kHz max. I bump it to 40 for coin edge detection. 🙂
  14. Nice chains! That's one thing I'm not finding, at least not gold or silver. ðŸĪ” Congrats!
  15. Thanks Deepseeker, She bought me the Manticore for my birthday last year, let me use it early. I don't find a lot of gold rings, but it sure has paid off for her! 😅 Started a few days after I opened the box.
  16. Thanks Rick, A very lucky find at an unlikely place. 🙂
  17. Thanks Ghound, Luckily the Vitamin 14k was compounded with a good dose of Vitamin D(iamonds). I almost overdosed on the 10k Texas A&M ring I dug there (33g), but quickly saved the day by dropping it in an envelope and mailing it to the owner 😏 End result is the euphoric feeling of Karma â˜ļïļ I'm probably too old now, but if I ever get a tattoo, this would be it. ðŸĪ” 🍀
  18. Just did some research, and the good ol' "Pootomac" is supposedly back to its normal "B" rating for pollutants as of 3 March. 😅 Good to know. The first trip I saw a lot of floating blobs of tiny plastic bits, but despite their pole vaulting abilities, none made it through my neoprene waders. 😎 Ring needs a bit of polish, but I'll have to pry it from my wife's finger. I cleaned it up good before I brought it in.
  19. Thanks Okara, Your last post inspired me to get out there. ðŸĪ”👍 Got a little gold earring last time but this was a real winner. ðŸĨģ
  20. Thanks Matt, The 300 year old ring is going to go to the landowner, I'll let him decide how to deal with it. I don't want notoriety for finding it. It would call too much attention to what I do. I hope he will do something spectacular himself, but I explained the possible risks. 😎 I've been wanting to find a really outstanding white gold ring with diamonds for my wife, I did get one last summer but this one really tops it. 🙂
  21. Thanks School, Cold water that is supposedly pretty polluted. Thankfully it doesn't smell bad, I hope I'm being careful enough. 😎
  22. Thanks Joe, Usually I find much less valuable stuff at this place, it was quite something to score a good one. 🙂 It's not exactly a high end resort 😅 Here it is next to my 10g ring:
  23. Already sorta did that, when I got back I asked my wife "Are you ready to Google?" Held out the ring, and got the expected response, which kinda "ages" me... 😅
  24. Thanks mn, Oddly enough I use Neil Jones' Explorer "tone curve" on Beach Surf and Seawater. ðŸĪ” Even though I've never owned an Explorer I understand what you mean. 🙂 You just know.
  25. Thanks strick, I checked all the local boards, there's nothing engraved, heck the hallmark was hard to find. It's been worn a long time. So, ðŸī‍☠ïļ. It found a caring home on my wife's hand and will join others in her jewelry case, she keeps it with her to show folks what I've found 😅
