  1. Grabbed detectors and my wife with her new Vanquish 540 and headed back to the gold rush site. We spent a nice day together digging up some serious history. I had never dug a gold rush era buckle 3 weeks ago now, I have a collection. She found the seated dime and something older but almost wiped clean. It’s slightly larger than the dime and I can see a shield so if you guys could help with ID that would be great. She also found the old key but I was the buckle master. I also found a few beads while digging targets and some buttons.
  2. The old buttons are really neat. The cap does look like an older Schafer valve cap.
  3. Hey CalReg, here is something i use while goofing off at work. Check it out. Get Maps | topoView (usgs.gov)
  4. I can pretty much guarantee there will be a part three. I am hoping anyways.
  5. I remember the gold as 12 but with the dime it was the sudden repeatable high tone that I was paying attention to. I think it was high 20’s. But not certain.
  6. Yes I did Tom and I had to sit there for a moment to process what I just dug.
  7. I have detected the gold rush site two more times since my last post. I bought my wife a Vanquish 540 Pro Pack after the first hunt because she wanted to be part of the action. She is doing good at digging iron but we will work on that and maybe she can find the good stuff. I have dug 4 coins total and all are a first for me. My pictures are using a phone under the garage lights so please forgive me. I appreciate your feedback on the finds and the copper is a Swedish coin from 1822 I do believe. The ring and the gold coin were found right next to each other at the chimney pile. The buckle parts are spread out around the area. I am using the Equinox 800 in park 1 and 50 tones. Beyond happy with this awesome site.
  8. That is pretty cool! I have been using lemon juice to clean some stuff like that and it seems to work well. Nice find.
  9. Tom the best thing in Gustine is Wolfsen Meat and Sausage. The Spicy Hawaiian sausage is the best. They make a seriously great Sandwich and are just nice people. They are a true treasure. My wife is a retired CHP officer and if I shared my new spot she may shoot both of us.
  10. That is a really neat pipe bowl. It seems most are a white color. I don’t recall seeing brown.
  11. GB. I basically found a collapsed fireplace and went to work around it. I covered very little of the area. There is no time limit so it’s mine to detect and I trust me I will. caprock, thank you for the info and the cool picture. I appreciate that.
  12. Tom, I live in Merced. My drives aren’t bad. I can get to many places in under an hour. My step son lives right out of Monterey and the drive over there is not my favorite. Too much traffic and the bs that goes with it.
  13. The Wetzler buckle is so thin, I’m not sure how it would hold pants up. The other buckle is thick so, I can see it working for that purpose.
  14. I did a bit of research and actually found a few things of interest. I think the pics aren’t the greatest but the day was epic for me. I’ll hit it again and hopefully find more. The quarter is well worn but it is my first seated coin and made my day. The buckles were right next to each other. One buckle is heavy the other is stamped and is thin but really neat. Thanks for looking. Oh, the button is really smooth and looks like silver but I am not sure.
  15. I use stock settings. I have changed them but don’t fully understand them so I tend to leave them alone.
  16. I probably use the external speaker 95% of the time on max volume. I hunt mostly old areas away from any towns. Plus I like to hear my surroundings.
  17. My Pops bought me the BFO used when I was in the 8th grade. I really only found iron with it but it really cemented the detecting bug in me. My wife gets tired of my detecting talk and research but she has been a good sport. I’m happy to be here and though not a technical guy I will be happy to share my finds. Thank you to all. Oh and the 8th grade was 1981- 82 I think. I’m old no but not out.
  18. I did get it cleaned up and can pull the slide out but it is still a bit gritty on the inside and doesn’t work. Patent date of 1916 on the side.
  19. Hi everyone, new poster here. I will try to post a few pics of today’s hunt. I found an old rock foundation on a hillside and this is what I found. Oh was using Equinox 800 with 6 and 11 inch coils. I also found a pocket watch but no pic yet
  20. Hi all, I have been enjoying the forum for about a year and read it almost daily. I have been detecting since the mid 1980’s I started with a very used Garrett BFO and didn’t find much with it but, many years later I bough a Whites GMT and did pretty well. Now, I’m really enjoying the Equinox 800. I think the Equinox is almost a perfect machine for me and I couldn’t be happier with it. Anyways I hope to add to the forums in the future.
