Hello, Finally got outdoors for some detecting after a very busy holiday season filled with ups and downs. Went to a new place down out in the foothills of Butte county to my cousins buddys prop. He has an a old channel surface diggings at his place with ground sluicing and hydroing. Back in the day they found alot of coarse gold and a few bigger nuggets there. Supposedly no one has ever detected there. So decided we will see what happens. So far not alot just 5 pcs. For .7 dwt. But it is a big area so we will see if it produces after more trys. Did find a few artifacts. A couple old shovels, half a gold pan. Rockerbox grizzly screens. And an old 6" knife. The soil is pretty mild so was able to run Fors gold in all metal. Did try boost mode for a few but I swear on the new plus model that boost or fast is more chattery then all metal on any soil. Quite opposite of last years tester model original Fors gold. It does run very nice on all metal ( general) with sens. 55 threshold 70-80 and even a little isat. I messed with isat and even turned it up to 4 out of 1-5. Still found tiny gold and birdshot. Hello, Its been raining alot here lately, but had a little break in the weather today. Before it turns bad again, I went out today for a bit, after a few outside things to get done. I went to a diggings that I first went to couple years ago. Back then I was using a gb 2. Then later I took the original Fors gold there to find it's first gold. I detected there with new Fors plus today for it's first. It has been pretty wiped out there for finding much gold anymore. But you never get all of it. I grided the place real good before, so everytime I go there now, which hasnt been much, I try to think if there is a spot that I might have missed. Ironically, the road I drive in goes right thru the original workings. But I never really detected the road right next to the truck. Today I parked in a different spot cause I didnt want to make ruts on my friends road. So I decided to try the spot where I usually park. Surprisingly there was gold there. Under the truck all those other days. The diggings there had alot of rich shallow small pockets of gold. I found 2 small pockets before in the begging with gb 2. The biggest had just over 1 oz of pieces Today I pulled .63 oz out of the same hole. Almost 12 dwt. I lost track counting somewhere around 50 pieces in all the excitement. But while extracting and later cleaning them, some of them broke into more pieces. The gold is really porous and crystalline so it doesnt weigh as much as it looks. After I pulled those out I detected some more , but only got some junk. Some of the pieces from the pocket were really small, but they sounded off on the Fors plus real good. It definitely was a good present Fors plus found for me. Nothing like finding a pocket of gold, right where it was born. Now back to rainy days ahead. Happy holidays!

Hello, Woke up this morning and the skies were clouding up and was suppose to rain late today. I was going to hike in a long distance to a spot I found last year on one side of the river. But didnt sound like I had all day because of rain. So I hiked in a closer spot on the opposite side of the river above redding. There is alot of old pocket diggins in the area. Some have decent gold. I hit this older diggings that I havent been to since detecting with a gb 2. Found some good pieces there before, but I think Fors plus operated better there because of bad mineralization. The high powered detectors have trouble at these spots unless you dumb them down a bit. I still ran Fors in boost mode and 80-85 sens. It was pretty smooth for hot ground. Dug a few pieces again right at the edge of the detection field. They were a repeatable whisper. But had a good day with 7 pcs for 3.4 dwt. Ill have to hit the other side of the river when the rains go away for a day. So far my Fors Gold plus is holding together with no issues.

I just got my Nokta gold plus detector today and ran into trouble . The screen on the handle will light up but can't get a number display on it. I've check the pins and plug with both looking good. I plug it back in and still have the trouble. The detector was double box and it didn't have any damage to either one. I hope someone has had the same problem with a quick fix. I really don't want to have to send it in before I can use it. Chuck Anders

Hello, Instead of black friday shopping, it is always better to be detecting somewheres, and thats were we went. Headed back to a diggings that ive hit for many years where you can really test out a new detector. I detected there many years ago with a gb 2, then a tesoro lobo, gb pro, and last year original Fors gold. The ground runs very hot. It will ground balance between 85-89 on the meter. The gold mostly runs really small. But I have found a few bigger ones before. It is really challenging for a high frequency detector like gb 2. The lower frequency detectors always are more reliable at this place. Last year the original fors gold performed very well running in boost mode with sensitivity at 85. This time I tried out the new Fors gold plus for its premier at the hill. Naturally I tried all metal first which was just too chirpy. Next was the familar boost mode, but ran the sensitivity at 80 instead of 85. Also had to leave my idmask at default 10. Performance wise it was a good setting for new fors. The new solid 10x5.5 seems to be a hotter coil then previous fors spiral coil. It does a very good job at hitting the small stuff, without a problem. It does seem to be stronger and louder on small targets. Fors plus does a good job at 19 khz as gb pro did. But fors plus does get the edge at small gold on depth and sharpness of the signal. 27 pcs for the Fors plus made for another great day. 2.7 dwt total

Hello, I received my test Fors gold plus from Dilek on friday. So had a couple hours saturday to Try it out. Unfortunately didnt find any color on Saturday. But had a few hours on sunday to redeem my self at a different location. Beings I have tested the last Fors gold last year, I was quite familar with the controls. This new plus fors was really aimed at an attack at the gold bug pro. After a few hours with my new friend, I found out this unit kicks gb pros butt. I ran a gb pro for few years, so I could definitely tell the difference. The new fors plus is similar to original fors, but at 19 khz , it seems to excel. I tried the concentric coil out at a part of the diggings that is pretty mellow ground and snagged a couple microscopic pieces. They hit hard and the target volume wasnt a whisper. I was very impressed. Next I ran the 10" x 5.5 dd coil in the hot mineralization It performed very well. I still run my sens. Up at 80-85. It is a little chirpy on certain hot spots, but otherwise performed flawless. This new coil seems to hit hotter and louder on targets then the last fors gold spiral coil. Even at the edge of the detection field. I did get a chance to try out the isat setting. It seemed the best setting was default 3. For where I was detecting. All in all the new Fors plus is still built very well and balanced great. Fors gold plus and I will have another great year testing. So far 12.2 dwt is a good start. 12.2 dwt total. Bigger piece 10.1 dwt.

I was happy to have a new toy arrive today, the Fors Gold+! Hopefully I will have some time next week and give it a whirl. Here's a few pics just to get folks excited who have been waiting. I'll post a few updates once I've had some hours behind it.

Nokta You posted back in Oct. 07th that the Gold Plus should be here soon. Just to let you know I put my money down for one with Chris on AZoutback. I found one guy on ebay that has them for sale but talking about later ship date that he just changed a little later. I believe good things is worth the wait and I don't plan a trip anytime soon to any gold fields. The thing is after 41 days from your first post I'm wondering where is it ? I'm looking forward to all the new detectors you have coming. I just hope I don't run out of money when I see I want another one like the Impact. The word it's self sounds if it has to be a great detector Nokta I thank you for posting here and I wish more detector companies did. Chuck Anders

The Fisher Gold Bug Pro is one of the most popular VLF prospecting detectors in use today. I think it is pretty obvious Nokta is gunning for the Gold Bug Pro directly with the new Nokta FORS Gold+ and so I thought a little comparison is in order. The FORS Gold+ comes with two coils, a 10" x 5.5" DD and a 5" round DD. Few people probably know it but the Gold Bug Pro is available as a dual coil package with the exact same two coils, the Fisher Gold Bug Pro Two Coil Combo. Both detectors run at 19 kHz, both available with same two coil package - a direct head to head battle. The best Internet price for the Fisher Gold Bug Pro Two Coil Combo is $749 and the Internet price for the Nokta FORS Gold+ Two Coil package is $679. I prepared a little comparison chart for you here. One thing lacking is that I think the Nokta comes with coil covers and the Bug does not but I am not sure of that yet so left that off the chart for now. And another item I just thought of but am not going to bother changing in the chart right now is that the Nokta does have a concentric coil option while the Fisher is designed to run DD coils only. Concentric coils offer certain benefits in some detecting scenarios like better ferrous discrimination compared to DD coils. I have used the Gold Bug Pro extensively and although I have not used the FORS Gold+ yet I have compared the Bug to the original FORS Gold at 15 kHz. The two models are literally neck and neck on gold nuggets even comparing 19 khz to 15 khz so I have no doubt that as far as detecting gold goes it is going to be a real toss up between these models. The operator will make the real difference more than the machines themselves. The FORS Gold+ however offers more features at an extremely aggressive price so on paper at least it offers an incredible value. A new feature difference is that the Nokta now has a setting they are calling iSAT which is a version of what White's has always called V/SAT. This was a White's exclusive for a long time but if there ever was a patent it has run out. All detectors these days with a threshold based all metal mode are constantly retuning in an attempt to keep the threshold steady over ground variations. This is why if you stop moving the coil the target fades away. The retune rate is normally factory preset and cannot be changed, but White's has always offered the ability to vary what they call the Self Adjusting Threshold (SAT) rate to suit the operator. Slower settings are more sensitive but require slower coil sweeps while faster settings smooth signals out and allow for faster coil movement. In homogeneous ground slower settings will get you extra sensitivity while in variable ground faster settings help smooth false signals. In my opinion however it will come down to what often separates detectors when I use them myself, the intangibles of how detectors sound and how they feel. The FORS Gold+ is a solid pound heavier than the Gold Bug Pro. Surprisingly however if you get a chance to try them both you do not feel it when using the 10" coils because the Nokta is balanced with the underarm control box while the Fisher tends to be nose heavy with the 10" coil. The real difference in this regard is the Fisher "S" rod grip versus the Nokta pistol grip. I can promise you right now some people like S rods and some hate them, and the same can be said of the Nokta pistol grip. You simply can't know unless you get them on your arm for a couple hours. The Nokta does have the edge in the audio department however with multiple tone settings. That does not mean a person still might not like the sounds the Fisher puts out better but at least with the Nokta you can change it to some degree. Finally, there is the large forward facing display on the Gold Bug Pro versus the dual LCD displays on the FORS Gold+. Everything on the Fisher is in your face all the time. Nokta puts the rarely used adjustments in a side display on the control box while critical items like target ID are displayed on a miniature LCD mounted on the top of the pistol grip. In practice both work fine but the Nokta is a bit more awkward in some regards because of this during those times when you actually do have to make adjustments. Ultimately both styles will have fan clubs and detractors but what I like most is choice. More options for us to choose what we personally prefer and that is a good thing. Long story short I think these are both great detectors and it is pretty hard to go wrong with either of them. Both are intended primarily for nugget detecting but can be used for most general detecting tasks. In fact, machines like these tend to be very popular with the relic hunting crowd who are seeking low conductive targets like buttons and bullets in ferrous trash. Anyway, I hope this helps for those who may be considering either of these detectors to sort it all out. After a very busy summer and fall, I had a chance to get out for a couple hours between the rain showers. Went to an old spot that I havent been to in awhile. We hit the place pretty hard before, but fors gold always finds a little more just a little deeper. Found 7 more for 2 dwts. Going to be switching to a new detector this season. So it was fun detecting with Fors Gold one last time. It was a good year and a half with the Fors. But it will have to be the backup now. Hopefully it rains alot more. The ground is still as hard as concrete.

Hi Everyone, I don't post very much but I have been detecting 4 years now usually 2 to 3 times a week and recently bought one of the new Nokta Fors 10"x 5.5" coils and one of the ears broke after only using it in parks for 3 weeks etc, not in any gold fields which would put it to the test for quality. I found that the ears are to thin and the holes are too close to the edge which is a weak point for it to break and that's what happen to my coil. I wish Nokta made this coil with stronger coil ears with more meat around the holes like the other coils provided in the pro-package deals and made it epoxy filled and even if it had to be an open style coil to keep it light, so it could be used in water, as the way it is designed now it is buoyant in water and not suitable for use there. Anyway I asked for my money back as I did not want a repeat of this coil breaking at the ears again and I would like to hear anyone elses experience with this coil braking at the ears, as I've had no problem with the other coils in the pro-package.

Well trying to teach myself a thing or 2 about my new machine. I went into a creek bed near my home in Redding that had just a small amount of water flowing in it. I discovered someone must have shot lots of quail in the area back in the day. As every little pocket I would detect had a pinch of about #8 shot in it. Not to mention a few split shot in every other bedrock pocket. Also lots of hot rocks in there as well. So I know if this baby finds that, it will find the yellow stuff. If I can just get on the right spot of earth. Think I'll try it in the Sierra Mts tomorrow in hopefully a little less trashy area.

My nokta fors gold lost display info,and is showing only system info, (p.p.toggle switch is sticky)so I was out detecting yesterday with my well used (dare i say slightly abused) gmt. I think it was a bad day for solar radiation/geo-magnetic yesterday, but it got me to wondering how do i test for this (need of cal.)at home? I would assume the test patch is handy for testing the consitency of readings and sensitivity, but short of another machine of same model how do you guys determine if it needs it, and what does it cost?

Chris at AZO set me up with a Fors CoRe yesterday. Been eyeing one for a while. I took it out for a spin today. First, to a local modern park just to get familiar with it then to a 1870s era ghost town that is so trashy that it's hard to find a spot to ground balance. I am very impressed with it's recovery speed/target separation. It hits super hard on coins and really "locks" in on them leaving little doubt that there is a coin under the coil. I know I'm a late comer to the Nokta Fors party and everyone already knows all this so I'll just show the goodies I found today on the CoRe's maiden run... The coins are all modern and most were found in the park. The shell casings are .30WCF. Notice one has been pounded flat and the end folded over. It's got something in it as it rattles when I shake it. The casings and the little copper things near the casings were found in the ghost town. Looking forward to giving it a spin in the gold fields. Sent an email off to Nokta 2 days ago haven't gotten a response (probably due to the weekend and different time zones), don't think I can call their number in Turkey with my phone though so not sure how else to get a hold of them. I don't have my manual with me and I'm hoping I can figure out some way to get the machine working again since I need to use it right now. I was detecting for a few minutes, it was working ok, then I noticed that all the settings had reset to stock, I tried upping the sensitivity with no luck and realized that no settings were able to be changed. So I turned the machine off and back on and now it's just stuck on the "system information" screen with the operating and gui versions, serial #, etc and the VDI screen in the handle stopped working at the same time. *Also I had been hiking around maybe 2 miles in the rain with the machine on my shoulder, not sure if that is what did it. I figured since the coil was waterproof and all the external stuff has sealed rubber boots it'd be ok in the rain though. Did I screw up there? I'm hoping there is just some way to reset the machine and get it back working again quickly...? I removed the batteries a few times, once I left them out for 10 mins, turned it off and on quite a few times and was trying to press buttons in any sort of combo that might do a firmware reset (if such a thing is even possible) with no luck. Anyone else had this problem and fixed it?

Well against my better judgement I went out and tackled the 100 degree heat... I've been pondering going 1 mile from the house to close to 10 acres of tailing piles... So I turn my machine on ...set it ...ground balance and my first swing got a target... Was thinking to myself that it was probably my trusty friend 'ole tin foil' because if how broad the signal was...but now that I dig every target regardless of its sound I began to dig...the target id never went past 64-68 and never lower than 44-45... Well this was the result of my machines work... The stone weighs 8.6 dwt... Unsure of how much gold is in the stone itself but out of the ground my machine is giving a signal of 56 no more no less...same # my buddy's 1/4 oz nugget gives...if that means anything...this is the biggest piece I have ever found ...I actually sat for a minute next to the hole with tears in my eyes cause I've worked real hard for this day....note my camera on my phone is a p.o.s.

Hello,. Just got back from my mini vacation to Tahoe. Had 1 day left before work again and it wasn't too hot. Only in 90's. So figured better get out before our coming heat wave. Went to my cousins property, where we have found some nice gold in the past. And there is no hobos and garbage for once. Just bears. Manzanita berries are ripe and the bears come down to lay around and fill up. I can deal with bears. We have detected there in the past with our gb pros and have grided the place pretty well. But I wanted to try Fors Gold on this ground. And my partner wanted to try her gpx with camo coiltek coil. The ground is one of the worst mineralization around here. It is a contact zone with 3 bedrock types. Most the gold was created in clay seams and is shallow. The old timers had dug shallow seams and some very deep pocket concentrations up to about 15 feet aswell. The biggest gold we found in the past was 1.7 oz with gb pros. So I set my Fors up in boost mode 85 sens for start. Was able to find a nice 1.4 dwt piece of gold right off. Where we allready detected with past detectors. Then another smaller one after another 1/2 hour. Then after a few more deeper leads found a good target mixed in with iron junk. Ended up getting another 1.1 dwt piece and a small one out of same hole. Both dwt pieces were at the 7" mark. All together ended with 2.8 dwt. Fors gold did very well finding more targets In previously detected ground. My partner did very well with her gpx also finding 6 more pieces. Good luck!

Took my Nokta to an old creek.... Well I gave the machine a few swings along the bank and found 1 piece so I put the coil in the 6" deep water and sweeped the ground ...not one target ...hit another spot in the water about 5ft away and the machine went nuts... The water was about a ft deep so I pulled out my trusty Keene A52 ...my shovel and classifier and got busy... The pic shows my results 2.8 dwt in an hr and a half...I will be back at that spot over the weekend...for a full day....
