Copper Slug Identification Help Needed.

Recommended Posts

Found this on a permission hunt today, want to try to id it if possible. Could be colonial or late 1700's. Size is 2mm X 28mm

Sorry I don't know what is front or back, couple different angles if that even helps at all.

Size is consistent with some USA Large Cents (official US Mint versions).  The 3rd picture appears to show a vine, but straight, not curved as typical of the early official strikes.

Given the number of British coins and pre-USA colonial coins (and maybe coins from other countries), plus the years between British surrender and Constitution ratification when many were vying for the job by producing tokens to prove their capabilities, this one could take a while to identify.  Still a fun exercise.  😄

Can you get a weight?  Most coin books don't talk much about thickness, but diameter (which you've specified) and weight will narrow it down some.

I believe it's a common wealth mass colonial. Figure on front and barely visible eagle on back. Couple slightly better pics, first is i believe the front.

Guess I'll have to go back and find a better one...

Nice find for sure and it looks just like a old coin.

Good luck on finding another one.
