Steve Herschbach
The F-Pulse and the Tek-Point are the same pinpointer except for name and color. Covered at several threads on the First Texas - Bounty Hunter, Fisher & Teknetics forum.

It's missing the turbo-modes and it has that power-on lockup problem as you have found out by yourself: Beach season is over, so I've sent fisher an email, asking how I can get my unit fixed. If it locks up while waterhunting for example, it's really not tolerable that you have to take out the batteries to get it working again... other than that I think it's a great pinpointer.
Sinclair
I assume they're distinguishable by serialnumber.. otherwise test it in the store. R1 locks up when switched on near metal. R2 gives a warning sound. My dealer took the R1 version back and sent me the R2 version, great service. The good news: No more lockups. The bad news: I *think* the new one is less sensitive.. or at least the unit I've got ?, but I can't tell for sure / compare, because I had to send the old unit back first. Other than that everything works fine after ~1,5 years of frequent use (mainly on the beach). The batteries in this thing last forever and I love the fact that it uses AAs. I've never tested it on small gold. It def. struggles with small aluminium. Sometimes its hard to find the items the Nox signaled.

I assume I have an R1, still use it, never had a problem with it. I’m betting most owners don’t. I really like the Carrot also, but the Fisher gives a bit better depth in my soul. Not a demon on tiny stuff though.
